Wang's in the Desert Ratings and Reviews
The service was terrible, starting with the front check in, they seemed very confused as to what they were to do. The food server was in a big hurry, even tough the dining room seemed quiet. Our reservation was at 6:00 so it was quiet. The food server didn't seem to know what wine was. He was too friendly and not professional at all. We have been to dumps before but this was terrible.
Chinese food is on par with PFChangs very white-washed. We ordered Chicken chow mien which was dried noodles that were tasteless and the kung pao shrimp and scallops and szchewan beef, the two last dishes tasted the same very sweet. While I went with my Dutch friend and my kids they enjoyed the blandness, I thought the menu was over priced for the quality that you got. Place is good for elderly people.
Considering it was Xmas Eve and the restaurant was extremely crowded, the service was surprisingly attentive. While the food was good, the portions were small and quite expensive.
The egg rolls were small and barely warm. $6 for two small egg rolls is a bit much. The WonTon soup for two was $13 and included a grand total of 4 WonTons. Our entrees were also small and overpriced.
As you'd expect from a packed restaurant, the noise level was quite high. This is our fourth or fifth visit to Wangs. We think it's the best Chinese food in Palm Springs, but this experience will have us searching for other options.
What a great evening! Started with Happy Hour with Will as waiter/bartender. He makes an excellent martini and mai tai. Friend wanted a gin Cosmo. She said it was the best. Calamari and Asian chicken were delicious appetizers. Came back for dinner. Delicious! Kudos to the spicy pork chops. Liked them better when they were called Jalapeño pork chops. Shrimp pad Thai was a favorite. Coming back soon.
Excellent dining experience. Accomodating and friendly hostess. Allowed us to change tables for a better view. The service was great. Water stayed full and dishes cleared promptly. Our waiter Randall was awesome! We were in a cut up mood and he joined right in. The drinks were very good and the food was superb!
Wangs is one of our favorite restaurants. Their were 4 of us at dinner everyone enjoyed their food very much, everyone had something different. I had the shrimp tempura as it’s one of my favorite and I have to say I was disappointed. The shrimp were different than normal, smaller , and the entire dish was much greasier tasting than normal. Won’t be having it again. Everyplace has an off night, perhaps it was just me. We will be back soon, I’ll be trying something else next time.
Unbelievable, the Manager was arguing with the entire staff throughout our entire meal. We had to get up and ask for more drinks, water and when our food was coming. The food was fair, drinks came wrong and the yelling didn't stop because 2 bartenders didn't show up for work. Shame on Management for us having to hear everything. This use to be a great restaurant and there are far to many exceptional restaurants in the desert to come here again.
Shame on the Management for the poor service and support!
Have always loved the place good food nice crowd patio and bar. Has got very expensive for Chinese appetizer, 1 drink each 2 people. 1 main course each. Almost $100.00 didn't use to be that expensive. Taking advantage of there success could be it's downfall. Won't eat there again. Have a cocktail there and move on.
This is probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The sesame chicken was frozen breaded Tyson chicken cutlets deep fried and sliced up with sesame seeds sprinkled over them.
The dim sum platter were Trader Joe's frozen dumpling things, still half cold. The waiters were apologetic. We left without eating any of it.
Unfortunately our waiter was not very good. We had to go to the water station to get our own water because it took forever. Then it was impossible to get water refills. Finally the waiter took our order but never came to check on us after that. The manager apologized profusely for the service but the damage was done. Was loooong forward to this place but ultimately disappointed.
Won't be back again anytime soon. Though food was ok, our party of 5 was unable to have a conversation without shouting at one another. Service was poor; drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, appetizer came with the mains (we sent it away). How about installing acoustical tile on the ceiling or at least bring back the tablecloths, something to absorb the ear splitting volume.
