About Walter's Bistro
Walters Bistro offers contemporary fine dining in Colorado Springs. One might not think exquisite seafood could be found so far from the ocean, but this eatery just minutes from downtown pulls it off very well with steamed mussels, salmon fillet and pan seared scallops, just to name a few.
While delicious seafood in the mountains may be a welcome surprise when visiting Walters Bistro, there is plenty on the menu for the landlubbers. For example, the power lunch crowd will love the bacon wrapped meatloaf, pound Wagyu bistro burger and the grilled bistro steak even if the seafood crepes do not tempt them. The dinner menu at Walters Bistro includes Colorado white trout, Chilean sea bass, wild mushroom ravioli, smoked duck breast and osso bucco.

Walter's Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Excellent! Walter was a friendly, gracious host. Our Servers, Rob and Kathy were very nice, attentive, professional and knowledgeable. The steak tartare, osso bucco, sea bass and lemon cake were all delicious! The bar area looked very comfortable and the dining room ambience was very pleasant. One of the better meals and service we have had anywhere.
My husband and I ate here for an anniversary dinner. It was good but something didn't quite hit the mark. The ambiance is OK but it's not a high-end, treat yo' self sort of feeling. The first table we were offered was literally right by the kitchen door so we asked for the adjacent booth. A server (not our waitress) offered us a wine list but no menu. It was 7 PM and they seemed slammed by an early bird seating. As it turned out, after those folks left, the dining room didn't fill up. Anyway, we shared the a caesar and the lobster bisque as appetizers. The bisque was nice, very savory. The caesar wasn't anything special. I love anchovies but they didn't stand out. The bread basket was totally uninspired. Two, frozen/then baked, rolls. Our entrees were both solid I had the trout which was perfectly cooked. The skin was crisp and the mousse stuffing melted into the flesh. Veloute sauce was lovely. My husband had the pork belly which he enjoyed but--as it's a rich dish--the portion was pretty small. We shared the creme brûlée for dessert. The topping was perfect...shattered with the spoon. The custard was tasty but not as smooth as I've had before. Anyway, there you have it. Good but not spectacular.
This became a 2 hour dinner...too slow. The scallops were dry. My medium rare steak was very medium. Lobster bisque was still very good. Friend raved about the escargots. Meal would have been longer if we had had dessert. Very very disappointing, because we used to really like Walters.
Love the Lobster Bisque - it is a staple on the menu. Our group 2 fillets and a NY Strip, as well as the Tuna - all delicious! Neighborhood Gem - we like to drop into the bar as well - different menu. This was a birthday celebration - great! Noise level is always a bit high.
We have eaten at Walter's numerous times and this was the first time I was disappointed with the experience. The waitress seemed to be distracted the entire evening as we had to ask for various service points - pepper, more bread, beverage refills.....
I ordered the chef's special Colorado rack of lamb and received four little bone in chops and I do mean little.
About fell off my chair when I got the bill - $52 for the lamb. I went home and grabbed something to eat as I was still hungry. Just felt cheated. $165 bill with no booze.
We went on Mother's Day. They had a Prix fixe menu. I had requested lactose free food for myself. I had a lobster omelet for my main course. The eggs were dry. The lobster was really off tasting. They put no sauce of any kind on. It was past horrible! I couldn't eat eggs the next day without nausea, recalling the truly bad omelet. No one came by and asked about our meal. I finally ate it just because I was hungry and I couldn't get the waiter's attention without causing a scene. The waiter and kitchen staff made no effort to make any appetizing rendition of this omelet or direct me to a better lactose free entree. The desserts were excellent. My other family members voted their entrees average.
I will not waste $42 per person here again for a special event. The atmosphere was pleasant but not worth the wait or the at most average food. The water was refilled and we got fresh coffee, kudos to the support staff!
Love Walter's, decided to try with friends for Mother's Day - and included in our Mother's Day Brunch was his famous lobster bisque.
The rest of the meal was pretty typical, good benedict, seafood omelet and pasta for the 4 of us. Nice option to the huge brunch buffets at other restaurants on Mother's Day - bonus it is close to home, we visit often!
The service was outstanding. We had Oysters on the half shell and Escargot for appetizers. I had the scallops - they were quite good but I felt like they were pretty skimpy on the serving. Three medium sized scallops on a small bed of rice with three small asparagus spears and a carrot that was cut in half lengthwise and way underdone. My husband had the sea bass and we did not understand that it was served in a very creamy (almost alfredo-like) sauce. I am sure we will go back but will try to discern the menu a little better next time.
We were dining with a long time friend we had not seen in years. Wanted a real class place with low noise level and great food. Very attentive service and accommodating in every way. My wife joined us late and they were very good at bring her selection quickly so she could catch up.
We were in the Springs (from Boulder) for business meetings. We had dinner 2 of the three nights we were there. The food is outstanding, the service IMPECCABLE. We had a large (somewhat boisterous) group and we all commented that our favorite part of the whole conference was dinner at Walter's! From our private dining area, to the outstanding wine, to the magnificent meal.....all 5 stars! Thank you Walter's Bistro - you are a real class act!
We were pleased with the variety of choices on the Easter Menu.
The quality of the food was outstanding, as was the service and the appearance of the restaurant.
Walter was waiting for us as we entered, was gracious, and spent time speaking with us about the restaurant and food.
We had a wonderful experience at Walter's Bistro. My husband surprised me with dinner out for my birthday and it was more than I could have expected. The service was exceptional from the moment we entered the door. The food was also exceptional! We will definitely return.
The only thing lacking at this restaurant was the wine list, but considering they carried my favorite White Wine, we were a ok! The service was amazing, the food spectacular (we went seafood heavy with Oysters as an appetizer, scallops and red snapper for dinner) and everything was very fresh. It's not often in Colorado that you can get fresh Oysters on the half shell that were flown out that morning. I have never been so impressed with seafood here. My husband and I went there to have a final date night before he deploys and it was just everything we wanted. Not too much fuss, but I didn't feel that we were forgotten or overloaded with people stopping by our table all the time. My water and wine were constantly filled and I barely noticed when they did it. The service, food, and atmosphere was everything we hoped it would be. And we will be back to eat here when he returns!
Second time my wife & I have dined at Walters and each visit has been great. Food has been prepared exactly as requested, service is outstanding. Was a little disappointed that they were out of the ahi tuna on our last visit, but the strip steak certainly made up for it. atmosphere is perfect for a nice relaxing dinner.
Don't be fooled by its understated exterior. Walter's Bistro is a fine dining experience that will not disappoint. My husband and I started with cocktails, followed by oysters on the half shell. These were the real deal... fresh like the ocean. We followed these with lobster bisque for me and the beet salad for him. Main courses were bison tenderloin and rack of lamb. Each course was excellent.
Of course a restaurant is not only about the food. The interior was appropriately quiet, with comfortable furniture, still befitting a fine dining experience. The host and wait staff were knowledgeable. They gave us appropriate privacy, yet were available for our requests. Overall we were quite impressed with our first dining experience at Walter's Bistro.
Sadly disappointing, especially for Valentine's Day. Our dining experience was awful from the start. The Valentine's Day menu was set, a 3 course meal with descent variety for the 1st and 2nd courses, but extremely limited-the 3rd course my favorite, dessert. Red Velvet cheesecake was the reason I chose Walter's over other restaurants. Our server clearly did not care whether or not our food okay, since she asked us if our foo
First, I would like to say that the restaurant is lovely inside, nice music, and nice and professional staff. However, the food was almost inedible at times. My lobster bisque was warm, not hot, and had no actual pieces of lobster in it. However, the overall taste was pretty good. My entrée consisted of an 11 oz strip steak with potatoes gratin and asparagus. I asked for the steak medium rare and it came out completely rare, the potatoes tasted like they were 2-4 hours old and had the consistency to match. There were two green asparagus spears that were cooked perfectly and seasoned very well, and two white asparagus spears that were undercooked and inedible. I was only able to eat the outer portion of the steak where it was a little more cooked; I took one bite of the potatoes and never touched them again, and enjoyed the two green asparagus. My desert an extremely stale profiterole with ice cream that was so hard, not even the ice cream could soften it up. That was just my meal. My husband's meal, the Dover Sole, was even worse. Neither of us are picky, but honestly the food was just terrible. And for $50 per person I am outraged that people give decent reviews to that establishment. There's no way this was a one time event when both of our meals were inedible. Honestly, we had a way better meal the night before when we stopped at Pappadeux's in Denver....fish was cooked perfectly, nothing overdone or underdone, and everything was delicious, all for a hundred bucks. Dinner at Walter's cost us around a hundred fifty bucks (including tip), and we couldn't even eat the majority of it. I will never go back....what a way to ruin a Valentine's Day dinner.
My husband and I visited Walter's Bistro for Valentine's Day, and we absolutely loved it! The menu selection, although limited for the day, was amazing. Our food was flavorful and cooked to perfection, and our waiter was friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
From the outside, I'd not give it a second glance. Based on on-line reviews we had to try it. I took my wife there for Valentines Day and we had a wonderfully romantic evening. Excellent food and a very welcoming, attentive staff. Walter's is fancy-ish without being stuffy. If you like cocktails, try the honey bourbon with berry infused syrup. The balance of the ingredients was perfectly done and one that pleased both our our differing tastes in a drink. Given this is a hidden gem, it's a great place for a group when the spontaneous need arises, although I've not been on a busy night. Finally, super kudos to Walter and his staff. They'll make sure you're well taken care of.
I'll be honest. A friend recommended it to me for a good place to take my wife for Valentine's day, but at first glance I wasn't jazzed up about the strip mall location.
That said, once you cross the threshold, their beauty really shines! We were greeted by Mr. Wuestneck the GM and Mr. Iser the Owner. They quickly confirmed our reservation and showed us to our table. The lighting was nicely dim and overall the place is quiet, so you can engage in normal conversation, but at the same time, there is enough going on to where the table next to you isn't going to hear everything going on.
The wait staff was super friendly and quick to take care of us without being bothersome.
The food was excellent and priced accordingly I thought. We had the shrimp scampi and bison steak. Both were prepared correctly and had a great blend of flavors.
Overall, Walter's Bistro was a huge surprise, and a place I will definitely go again!!
My husband and I have been dining at Walters for as long as it's been open. The food and service has always been exceptional.
Unfortunately, the quality of the food has fallen recently. The salads had so much dressing on them we could not eat them.(Beet and Ceaser salads) Our Halibut was over cooked and had little flavor. Hopefully the food will return to its exception taste soon!
