Walter's Ratings and Reviews
Extremely noisey & lousy seating are top of my list! Very small round tables are shoved together & u r literally dining with ur neighboring table, practically sitting on their laps! Ordered the bar steak ( $27 )medium & it came out well done. Waitress was extremely attentive & apologetic & thats really only reason we stayed. Steak was great once it was cooked properly & loved the argula salad w dressing. Drinks are pricey-$8 for a can of Crisp beer & $11 for small wine glass of sangria. This was our first & last visit. For paying over $100 for what we hoped was a fine dining & intimate dinner this restaurant fell extremely short of our expectations!!!
I've eaten at Walter's many times before and made a reservation to take family to dinner who were in town. Our table was ready as soon as we arrived and (as usual) the service and ambiance were great.
The pork chop was delicious and the jalapeño grits were as well. My mother never eats or orders burgers but saw the table next to us order one and was inspired to do the same. She has commented twice since how much she enjoyed it which is probably one of the highest compliments I could think of (for a burger).
Took baby and grandma for a 5:30 reservation and had a great time. Food was delicious and staff warm and sweet to my 11-month-old baby and my 79-year-old mother, alike. The oysters were delicious, if pricey, and they have some of the best fried chicken in Brooklyn (not as good as Brooklyn Bowl/Blue Ribbon). Cocktail menu was a hit for the adults, too. My mom loved her French Dip, and my fisherman's stew really hit the spot, since I'm getting over a cold.
We loved our experience at Walter's! It has a great Fort Greene location, right on the edge of the park. I got the burger and it was delicious. Our server was nice and helpful and overall the place just gave off good vibes. Would definitely recommend this place.
Make a rezzie though because it can get crowded.
We just discovered Walter's and it's officially our new favorite place. Fantastic ambiance, delicious food, attentive and relaxed servers. The music was a bit louder than it needed to be, but the young hipster crowd didn't seem phased by it at all. Sweet corner bistro!
Took a group of 5 fellow board members here for our year end dinner. Reserved a booth, and we all had an AMAZING meal. Our org is based in the Brooklyn Navy Yard which has almost no food options immediately nearby, so was delighted to introduce the crew to Walters -- a new favorite for everyone and only 10min walk from the Yard. We had the fried chicken, creamy mushroom pasta, the artichoke dip, the deviled eggs -- it was all DIVINE.
I do not live in Brooklyn any longer but my kids do. Whenever we visit I always try to get to Walter's in Fort Greene for at least one or two meals. Over Thanksgiving we had dinner the night we arrived and lunch on the day after Thanksgiving. I need my oyster fix at this time of year and the raw bar offerings were terrific. Excellent food and great service.
My two friends and I had an early dinner on a Sunday night and enjoyed ourselves. We split the Caesar salad and boneless ribs to start. The ribs were mouthwateringly good and we all wanted more! I got the fisherman's stew, which was tasty but might have been a little too much sauce and not as much seafood. My one friend got the fried chicken which was moist and delicious and the other got the linguine and clams which she said we the perfect amount of pasta. The service was very friendly and we were well take care of throughout the meal, never felt rushed or ignored! The music was a little too loud, so the server did have a hard time hearing us and vice/versa. The tables are a little bit on top of each other so if you don't like to get to know the tables around you it might not be a good pick for you.
What a delightful gem. We loved the view, the ambiance, and the food. The restaurant was busy but we could easily hear each other talk. The view of the evening hustle and bustle from the park across the street supported the active but casual neighborhood "feel". We thoroughly enjoyed the grilled octopus, linguine loaded with clams, and the Cajun catfish and burger were delightful as well. The chocolate cake "finisher" was fabulous to share. We will definitely be back to try brunch next time.
Walter's is warm and welcoming with great food and drink. Wait staff are knowledgeable and lovely, and the menu has something for everyone. Favorites: Fried chicken, linguine with clams, catfish, burgers. Desserts are awesome, try the key lime pie. Drinks are spot on. It's a fantastic place. Gets noisy later, so if you want to converse with everyone at your table book an early seating.
Booked on Open Table, requested a specific table and dessert birthday candle. Confirmed the rez over the phone and reiterated request. Restaurant caller either misheard or misunderstood my request and forgot to add the candle once dessert was served. I stood up to inquire about the missing detail then server and manager sincerely apologized and made it right immediately. Long story short: not every meal will be perfect and not every reservation request will be fulfilled, but it's a good feeling to know that the staff at Walter's will work to make it right. Thankful to be have been taken care of. Cheers to you joyful Monday night crew.
Good food + great service.
Our server was really sweet. I think her name was Lauren, (she looks like Flo from the Progressive commercials).
Food was pretty good, though I wish my portion was slightly bigger ( I had the clam and linguini)
I loved the ambience - good size. Really cute neighborhood gem.
I really used to love this place. But the food just doesn't rate anymore. I ordered the seafood stew. Complete rip off. It literally had 2 muscles and 2 shrimp. A year ago I ordered the same dish and it was loaded with seafood. The rest of the food was underwhelming as well. Dry pork chop, cold lasagna. I really want to still like this place but just can't do it anymore.
We eat there at least once a month. It was my mom's first time and she already wants to return. We ran in to my sister and her husband and her party of six after we ate. We sent them over to Walter's and they thought it was a great referral. #greatfood #Amazingdrinks!
Walter's is a high quality, laid-back Brooklyn restaurant that serves food the equal of anything in it's price range in Manhattan, though in a more thoughtful, authentic way. Excellent cocktails without obnoxious mixology obsessions characterize the warm wooden bar setting. Lots of fresh fresh and vegetables complement the full dinner menu. Interestingly, like many restaurants in London, they've pared down their menu to a few very good items, preferring the quality to quantity approach. This is a medium-priced restaurant by Manhattan standards, perhaps a little more by Brooklyn standards. It's very convenient near the Q line in a great neighborhood. Reservations are a must. We will return again.
Friendly, upbeat vibe in this sweet little Fort Greene spot. Attentive service. Delicious food! Highlights: octopus starter, the side of cauliflower, the crispy, grilled sourdough that accompanied the Fisherman's Stew (though the stew definitely needed more seafood). Friends were happy with the Salmon, Catfish and Pasta dishes too! Can't wait to go again!
Delicious appetizers including the best tasting octopus we have ever tasted. It was cooked to perfection. Our waitress was sweet, efficient and knowledgeable. I enjoyed a glass of Chardonney that augmented the taste of the dishes which included vegetable lasagna, a beautiful dip and the aforementioned fruits de mar. My party greatly enjoyed perusing the wall of famous "Walters".
Excellent service - we had such a nice and attentive waiter. And the ambiance is lively - Walter's attracts a good crowd that makes for a good ambiance. BUT, except for the deviled egg, the food doesn't leave a lasting impression. The dishes were bland at best and the flavor combinations of some dishes were just off - it wasn't just me, but others who felt the same. And for the price, the dishes are small and don't come with any substantive sides. Certainly not worth the tab.
overall, we love walter's. it's our favorite spot in the neighborhood. but, there are two issues consistently – because it's so popular, the restaurant crams seats in too closely. it makes dining uncomfortable. also, the acoustics are terrible and the restaurant is too noisy to have a nice conversation.
