The Walrus is doing and excellent job Despite covid restrictions. They have a Large outdoor heated area. The food and service was excellent as usual.
Waiter was awesome! Loved out outdoor area!
I’ll be really honest, I liked the outdoor seating A LOT. They even put cute minimalistic framed art on the sides of the tent with subtle lighting hanging all around. It was like a little Pinterest-ish dining setting. Food was great, always is. My friends mom asked me to bring her some oysters, so I bought 20 to go along with an Italian ( I think? ) shucker knife. The staff person was kind enough to show me how to properly shuck an oyster. Also their hand sanitizer is made out of whiskey, I spent a good minute standing near the entrance smelling my hands thinking I just used the wrong bottle for hand sanitizer.
This is a restaurant I’ve been wanting to try since I moved to Seattle. Our visit made for a really fun special date—great ambiance, great oysters, and we loved the sparkling wine on offer. But, the service team felt a bit pushy, rushing us through our 1.5 hr time slot. We understand Covid restrictions, but if we’re paying $200 for our meal, please don’t try to shove us out the door.
If I were to come back, I’d probably just stick to oysters, a drink and a starter. For the cost, I didn’t think the rest of the meal was that outstanding. Specifically, the almond cake was a bit of a miss for me.
Best of luck, I truly hope the business sticks around, but I feel like improvements could be made.
Great experience dining in the tent! Groups are divided by tent walls and plenty of room for air to circulate. Food and drink are top notch, as always.
Well, $4 for an oyster was just about as high as I have ever paid - and this was not in a fancy white tablecloth restaurant (and we live in Oysterville!). But the service was great and the food interesting and flavorful, despite high cost. They have done a nice job making it safe dining, as well.
Even with the pandemic, Walrus and the Carpenter provides the unmatched, artistic & scrumptious experience that I’ve fallen in love with over the years.
Usually avoid anywhere with a pre fixe menu as it’s usually not as good as normal. This was one was the best pre fixe menus I’ve had
Walrus and the Carpenter has done a fantastic job of creating a safe and comfortable outdoor dining environment. The setting was lovely, the food was delicious and the service was stellar. Highly recommend!
They have couple good plates and I know about the pandemic situation but you can not charge $18 for 4 shrimp. Also my wife's parents call in advance to buy all the drinks and appetizers and they lost all the info. It was my wife birthday after all that mistake they didn't even bring anything for her birthday. Very disappointed!
Outstanding food. Everything was delicious. Grilled sardines, steak tartare and oysters really stood out. Sat in tents outside, but was warm and nicely decorated. 100% would come back.
Great job managing the circumstances. Tent seating was good, service great, food outstanding as usual.
We got there a little early and thought that maybe we could catch a drink somewhere in town, but with the rain and outdoor seating as the only option, we quickly realized we weren’t going to have any luck as everything was full. We headed to walrus and Carpenter an hour early of our reservation hopeful that they would be able to accommodate us during these weird times. The host informed us that there were still four reservations ahead of us but that they could accommodate us at a table they don’t use for dining if we wanted to have a drink while we wait and that they would give us the soonest table they had. This worked out great! It actually was what we were hoping for the whole time, but didn’t think this option existed as bars and indoor dining are closed. We hopped on a couple stools in the outdoor area and were quickly greeted and provided access to drinks. We ordered two bourbon drinks and by the time we wanted our second round our table was ready. We enjoyed more drinks, right oysters, scallop Crudo, and the house bread with butter. Everything was really delicious. And the service was spot on. Thank you for making a rainy pandemic night for these two locals comfortable!
Good food and drinks. Fantastic service. Very safety oriented- a nice place to feel a little normalcy in today’s environment.
Just a lovely place to throw down some oysters! They are doing a great job during COVID and we felt comfortable and safe.....
Well, it is COVID but they had a comfortable and private set up outside. The food was fantastic - oysters, beet salad, scallops, French onion soup, steak tartare- ll delicious. Service was wonderful.
Amazing food, amazing service! The Brussel sprouts are beyond amazing. They’re doing fantastic with Covid safety. Would definitely recommend!
A cozy outdoor dining experience! Overhead heaters—along with dressing in many layers—kept us very warm. The table were distanced as required and all wore masks except when eating. And the food! The oysters on the half shell were delicious as were the pesto grilled sardines and French onion soup. Craft cocktails rounded out a perfect evening. Five stars!
Food and service were amazing-- great outdoor dining set up as well.
Food was fantastic! We were very impressed with how cozy you were able to make the out door seating feel
Food here is always top notch. Service is fantastic. Drinks are a little pricey but not too bad. My only gripe was with the outdoor seating. We were seating in the innermost of the two seating areas. While the tables were spaced out nicely, they was no air flow. There is a wall on two sides of the space so it's essential that the other two sides have air good flow. The wall facing the back patio had windows that could have been opened a lot more. So only one area was really open and that was attached to the main restaurant. I would not consider that part outdoor seating at all.
Amazing food. Love this place. Have to try the scallop crudo.
Everything was delicious but portions were small and way overpriced!!!
$126 for the 2 of us (just one cocktail and one beer) I was still hungry when I got home.
Made us feel so safe dining during quarantine and the food was as good as we remembered, if not better. Love this place!
Amazing food! Great staff! Doing the best that can be done ! Covid sucks!
Walrus and Carpenter made a great dining experience with setting up tents and heaters to adhere to Covid restrictions. The food and service was very good as well.
The oysters were great and should be the reason you go, very underwhelmed by the other items
We absolutely loved Walrus and the Carpenter. Everything about our experience was a 10/10. From the cozy outdoor tents, to the extremely friendly staff, and the insanely well crafted food, everything was perfect. Dont walk, RUN.
Like many of us, I have missed going out to dinner. Walrus allowed me to enjoy some of my favorite food in Seattle in a safe, cozy, comfortable atmosphere. As always, the food was spectacular! The staff, thorough, friendly and smart! The menu’s beverage list is packed with great choices, so those that may need reading glasses to read tiny print, don’t forget those glasses! ❤️🥂
Loved dining here even during COVID. Our server was awesome and the food was delicious!
The restaurant has a tent build in the parking behind the restaurant. It is providing 4 separate tables and it works very nice. It is heated space. But still wear warm clothes and especially warm shoes, since the cold floor surface penetrates your feet.
The hour and half for 2 and 2 hours for larger parties are a bit short, but the team is flexible to accommodate. what is even better news is that the complete menu is back.
I am happy to see they are in business!
Best thing here is the oysters. All the food here was a little over done but not flavorful. Very expensive for tapas style food and not very filling. Would come back for oysters or happy hour when restrictions let up.
Walrus and the Carpenter never ceases to disappoint. Cannot say enough good things about the food and drinks - there is not a bad dish on the menu, period. I honestly don't know why seafood restaurants all do fried calamari instead of oysters, Walrus and the Carpenter's fried oyster dish is the best fried seafood I've ever had - much more flavorful and a better texture than calamari (IMO). Other great dishes: delicata squash with piripiri, grilled sardines were amazing, tartare is always excellent, perfectly fresh raw oysters. The waitstaff is always friendly, helpful, and upbeat. Even while outdoor dining, we were able to take our coats off as their heaters kept the temp nice and warm. COVID-wise, they did a great job. The host lets you know when you check-in that you must hand sanitize upon entry and wear a mask whenever a staff member approaches your table or when you are on your feet, much appreciated. The waitstaff did an awesome job giving ample opportunity to put masks on before they approached the table and kept their distance as much as they could. Also, I did not see one staff member's mouth/nose the entire 2 hour dinner; masks were on them at all times, even when just interacting with eachother. If you're like me, and more than a little uncomfortable dining out (even outdoors), W they take it seriously and have a great outdoor space that is kept plenty warm with their heaters.
100% recommended. The daiquiris were the best I have ever had!!!! That bread pudding changed my life! Awesome staff who seemed like they were having a nice time working together- very important!
Brussels sprouts and grilled sardines were out of this world!
Exceptional food and service. It was outdoor dining and we were very comfortable. We'll be back.
Did a great job setting up private outdoor tents
Last night to eat indoors before another Covid19 lockdown. Everything was excellent. My favorite restaurant in Seattle.
Noise was low when we had dinner. Covid may have been a factor. Oysters were fantastic. Cocktail was okay, could have been a better old fashioned. Food was good, service was good, and the outdoor patio was nicely heated and comfortable. Recommend this place. Few shops around as well to walk around Ballard St
This was my first time back since Covid restrictions were put into place, and I was very impressed. They really have it figured out. I felt safe, and the food and service were amazing as always!
