I remember Wallse from the time it opened. It was so perfect! This was not the original that I know, though. First off, we were sat late, and with no apology and no recognition for their error. While I am not one who desires special treatment, the money you spend at this restaurant should translate into how they treat you before you even sit down. Second, this was a birthday event, and even though I specifically noted that detail in my reservation and when I confirmed, they still did nothing to make this event even semi-special for us. That, again, is not the Wallse I know. I am a teacher and do not make enough to eat out like this often. It is pretty clear to me that a restaurant such as this only caters to those that see it as nothing special. That is supremely annoying to me. And lastly, they seriously need to higher a bartender that possesses the requisite skills to make a simple martini.

We recently dined at Wallsé and had pleasant evening. The room is lovely and service top notch. The sommelier in particular was extremely personable, knowledgable and helpful with a terrific Austrian wine list. We talked about wonderful Gemischter Satz, the quirky delicious mix Austrian whites. He helped us chose a lovely reisling from Austria. Our food for the most part was delicious except that the Wiener Schintzel was not crispy nor as tasty as we would have expected. The sides of pickles and potatoes were fantastic as was our started salads. Overall the experience was great but schintzel needs some work.

Phenomenal experience. The food was great and inventive, the wine list extraordinary (focused on interesting Austrian wines!), and the service was some of the best we've experienced in the city.

Perfect evening. Food, service, ambience and my date were all beautiful. The restaurant isn't really responsible for the last one but it did everything else perfectly.

We had reservations and were seated right away. I love that the ambience was nice and quiet. You can actually have a conversation! So unusual these days. The food was plated beautifully. The food was unusual in that there are not many Austrian restaurants. One small fault I found is that the waiter may want to pass out the entree menus before asking us which wine we would like.

My husband and I are both foodies and we indulge quality meals. The food was outstanding, prepared to perfection and beautifully presented. Portion sizes were perfect for us (not too large, not too small - just right- so we could enjoy several courses). The staff did not rush us, even though we lingered a bit (we met up with old friends and had a lot to catch upon). Service was very good, but not overly intrusive. Wallse exceeded our expectations and we plan to go back.

Dinner was delicious as always especially the artichoke appetizer which was new and very nice. And I always have the Viener schnitzel because it is the best in New York. Plus the location in the West Village is wonderfully convenient and it’s always good to see Kurt.

Service and food were both excellent. I read the review in the NYTimes, and made the reservation for a birthday celebration for my boyfriend. We have vacationed in Vienna twice and had excellent Wiener schnitzel which was also fabulous at Wallse. Great menu, wines and service. I highly recommend it.

Food good. Best were spaezle appetizer and duck entre.
Friendly place but service quite slow. Struck up a fun conversation with the neighborhood diners at the table next to ours.

I have been a patron there for a while, mainly for business entertaining. I made reservations for December 25th that required a deposit for obvious reasons. No one mentioned that it is only a pre fixed menu. Even on open table (and I have a screen shot of it) it did not show the fact that only pre fixed is available. When I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager I was told that this is the rule and my Amex was charged $149.99 ( Strange). Well, now they lost me as a customer and in the long run they lost thousands of dollars. This will show you the great attitude and the customer service they provide to a loyal guest.

We recently visited Wallsé on a very cold Winter evening. We enjoyed outstanding fare and service in a charming dining room, enhanced by crisp linen, lovely flowers, and Julien Schnabel art. Chef Gutenbrunner is both gifted and correct in his preparation, as well as a warm host.

Wallse is becoming one of our favorite dining spots in NYC. The food is creative and delicious. The service is professional, yet still friendly. And the ambiance is elegant, yet still casual. We are also getting familiar with Austrian wines, which are a new experience for us. Lovely spot.

The menu was very interesting and what I ordered superb ... all at prices that seemed reasonable from a Washington, DC perspective. The plates were well presented, the portions just fine, and the food superb. One could not hope for a more perfect schnitzel (exclamation point)

One of our entrees was so over-cooked it was inedible, though the rest of the meal showed great creativity and expertise. This isn't a restaurant for the casual diner-- come to be wowed by the ambiance, old-world-meets-new-world cuisine, and European-quality table service. While disappointed by the entree I couldn't eat, the service response to that situation made up for it. The wine list is cheeky and nuanced, and the sommelier (direct form Austria) knows his stuff.

Dinner at Wallse is annual ritual for my German-American husband's birthday. The sophisticated Austrian food and unusual mostly-Austrian wine list provides a dining experience that is both delicious and interesting. Tucked away in a Greenwich Village storefront on a quiet street, the restaurant has a comfy ambiance jazzed up a bit by the Julian Schnabel mural on the dining room wall. This time the front-server was solicitous but a little green so rushed us a bit.

We went for Thanksgving because of the Michelin star and description, and the fair price for the three-course meal as described on the website . The main dining room is lovely. The bar area, where we were, less so. The food was good but nothing was really good, not to mention great.
