Excellent dining experience. Food was sublime and the service was very attentive and prompt. We got to speak for a few moments with Chef Kurt and he was so nice and welcoming. Everything from our cocktails to our server to the dishes and the dessert was perfect. Thank you for the lovely evening!
We have been here many times, but not in a while. Everything was perfect for our guest visiting from California. A perfect meal and evening.
Always a pleasure to eat at Wallsé. The dishes are based on traditional dishes (Wiener Schnitzel) or use ingredients common in Central Europe (rabbit), and are executed flawlessly. The wine list has a special section with unusual wines, we enjoyed a Styrian Gelber Muskateller. Service is excellent, and two adults can have a conversation which does not mean that the place feels stuffy -- it feels festive and neighborhoodly at the same time. Highly recommended. If you like white asparagus, it's the season -- but you may want to check whether it's hothouse from Holland , and if yes, wait for the real thing from Germany or Austria, much better.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner with my daughter’s in-laws to be. Food ,as always was perfect, service impeccable and the sommelier helped choose Some lovely Austrian wine.
We visited for my husband’s birthday, and everything was outstanding from the minute we got there. We each had a four course meal, with the intention of sharing, but after taking one bite neither wanted to give up any! We had: (1) white asparagus and green asparagus; (2) spaetzle and ravioli; (3) lamb and short rib; (4) chocolate torte and rhubarb strudel. Add in a bottle of wine and after dinner drinks and we had quite the birthday celebration! Great food, great service - we will be back!

The individual courses were extremely tasty, I would go back. The veal schnitzel was somewhat tough. The waiter made a significant error on the bill which was corrected.
We went to Wallse for a birthday celebration. It was a beautiful, warm evening and the doors were open to let the breeze in. We loved the vibe and ambiance as well as the food and the service. Artichoke and asparagus are in season now and Wallse had these items on the menu. I ordered the artichoke and my husband ordered the asparagus. Both dishes were delicious. All four of us ordered the wiener schnitzel which was also amazing. We will be returning!
My wife and I went for the first time. We loved everything about the place, primarily the food. Wonderful.
I have been eating at Wallse for 17 years. It is still cool and hip with outstanding cuisine I live in the neighborhood, but often bring friends who do not and they always are wowed by it.
Excellent food, quiet for a Friday night. All price fixed options no other choices. Would definitely go back.
I was very impressed with my visit to Wallse. It is an intimate spot,with two dining areas.The staff was very welcoming.We each had a four course meal along with a glass of wine. The presentation,preparation, and taste of all of the courses was exceptional.We enjoyed cured salmon,onion soup,spatzle with rabbit,branzino,veal wiener schnitzel,sacher torte, and chocolate egg. The service was outstanding. The meal was a real treat for the palate!
As usual, absolutely amazing dining experience! The wine list comprises a superb collection of Austrian wines et alias, that allow for a perfectly paired gastronomic experience. Highly recommend.

We long considered Wallse our favorite place in NYC for several years - a quiet and classy place in a quiet out of the way location - but prices and service time has gone way up while portions have gone down. We were shocked at the changes and no longer feel it’s worth it. we spent over $200 for two and dinner took almost 2 hours on a weeknight.previously it was like $130 and 1:15. Also the halibut main dish was extremely bland and we did not finish it. The $20 soup was very watery and not savory. The $20 dessert was three cherries and some a tablespoon of sweet ice cream essentially.
Refined and subtle dishes with great use of light creamy sauces. Cozy atmosphere and attentive, friendly service.

I went there with my husband last week. We were blown away how amazing the food was! What a talent and imagination chef Kurt Gutenbrunner has ! We love fine dining in NYC , Vallse by far can be named one of the best restaurants in the city!

Wallse was everything we had hoped it would be. From the moment we entered until we walked out the door, we couldn't have been more pleased. It was a long and lovely evening.
My wife and I had not been to an Austrian restaurant before so we went to Wallse with another couple on a recent Saturday night. We enjoyed everything about it. The food was a good mix of some traditional items such as wiener schnitzel and other items that had a modern spin. Other nice dishes were the pea soup, white asparagus with smoked brook trout, and a short rib entree. The wine list was excellent. Many Austrian Gruner Veltliners and Rieslings as well as a large number of reds such as Blaufränkisch and Pinot Noir. We had a great sacher torte for dessert and the four of us shared a half bottle of a sweet Gruner Veltiner.
The service was excellent - attentive but not overly so. They had very good timing on serving the plates and clearing the table, i.e. all four setting were done at the same time. That is something increasingly rare in New York.
The restaurant recently moved away from a la carte. They have the menu divided into four sections (cold appetizers, hot appetizers, entrees and dessert) and there are various combinations of 2, 3, or 4 items.
We love this understated gem of a West Village Austrian restaurant. Everyone had the asparagus ragout. The artichokes arrived in a deep green broth, very fragrant. The lobster and spaetzle was well balanced and the veal wiener schnitzel was thin, perfectly fried, moist and tender. We had the entire meal with a delicious sparkling gruener veltliner selected for us by the sommelier. Service was unhurried and we stayed until closing, enjoying the meal's afterglow and conversation.
Everything was great. Austrian cuisine was fab and so many affordable native wines by the bottle.
Food was amazing. Went with family- this was the first time we’ve seen each other since a family trip to Austria. This brought us right back! Albeit with a slightly New York take on traditional Austrian cuisine.
Our server was new and seemed nervous but he did a fantastic job! Tell him to keep up the good work.
The lobster with spaetzle is the stuff dreams are made of. And the desserts were just as tasty as their European counterparts
Hadn't been here in years because we live up the Hudson now, but it seemed like the perfect place to go after visiting the Whitney. Spectacular meal. My mother was Viennese so I have some background and standards to apply in making the judgment that the food is simply out of this world. Wonderful oysters, though for a five dollar supplement maybe there should have been 4 or 5 of these small precious jewels; but they were perfect. Chestnut soup was exquisite, and the lobster poached in butter the best I've had anywhere. Dessert --the Salzburg nockerl, a large fluff of meringue and pastry cream easily big enough for three (it looks like the Pitons plus one)--would have had Mom cheering and saying "go ahead, it's all air." The wine list has reasonable Austrian, Alsatian and German choices, plus some off the charts if you're so inclined. A delightful, gemutlichkeit evening.
Always a treat! Four people selected different meals and each one was just fantastic. We love and appreciate an excellent meal; however, a bit exhausted so just want to get a review because this place remains special for its consistency and attention to detail for the last decade+ we've been visiting.
Very good service but for a michelin star restaurant, would expect the food to be more on the extraordinary side, rather than just good.
We love all the KG venues (Sabarsky, Blaue Ganz). The Schnabel artwork here a plus, but we loved it as well with previous paintings. The food is authentically Viennese and scrumptious.
Have been happily dining here, usually on a weeknight, since the restaurant opened. After a year hiatus, I returned with two guests for an early Saturday dinner. Sadly I felt Wallse had lost its luster. Our female server was the best part of the evening. She knew the menu, was able to describe the off-beat dishes, never rushed us. The drink and food were a different story. Cocktails were just plain weird--color- and taste-wise. And while our appetizers and entrees were quickly served and beautifully prepared, servings were skimpy and flavor not that interesting. We skipped dessert. I had so looked forward to treating my guests to a very special dinner. I can't say for sure that I'll be back.
We have been meaning to eat here for years and finally dined at Wallse recently. What we were waiting for! The food was wonderful, specifically the entrees Crispy Mediterranean Sea Bass and the Butter Cooked Maine Lobster, the ambience was warm and the waitstaff was genuinely interested in our dining experience. BTW, don't pass on the Salzburger Nockerl for dessert, you will not be disappointed. The artwork was very cool to look at and the music was great which added to the positive vibe. We will back here soon.

I remember Wallse from the time it opened. It was so perfect! This was not the original that I know, though. First off, we were sat late, and with no apology and no recognition for their error. While I am not one who desires special treatment, the money you spend at this restaurant should translate into how they treat you before you even sit down. Second, this was a birthday event, and even though I specifically noted that detail in my reservation and when I confirmed, they still did nothing to make this event even semi-special for us. That, again, is not the Wallse I know. I am a teacher and do not make enough to eat out like this often. It is pretty clear to me that a restaurant such as this only caters to those that see it as nothing special. That is supremely annoying to me. And lastly, they seriously need to higher a bartender that possesses the requisite skills to make a simple martini.
