It did not live up to its reputation, the price point or my past experience there. Waiter was friendly, but a bit inept - no spoon or sugar for iced tea, didn’t take empty plates away, etc.

Worst was that the Wiener Schnitzel was really tough. (You’d think they’d get THIS one right!) More than one table complained. The manager tried to be very gracious and adjusted the bill, but the damage was done.

I suspect management needs to pay a little better attention to what is going on in their multi-location empire.

Really fantastic and interesting food. Absolutely delicious. I do wish the wait staff was a little less uptight. Very serious - but maybe the vibe they are going for.

The food was overall very good as was the service. We thought the corn soup with crab and the foie gras terrine were the highlights of the meal. The tarragon in the soup was pleasant and a great touch, you could taste sweet crab and it was not offset by the sweet summer corn. The foie gras was a very generous portion with fresh flavorful strawberries and light brioche. The Salzburger nokerl and schnitzel were also excellent (though a few large chunks of burnt sugar in the nokerl could have been avoided). The heirloom tomato starter with lobster was a bit of a miss, with good ingredients not coming together as one. Everything else was very good, but all with some slight issues, but the value was very good, $89 for four courses and a really nice $60 wine. However, I really felt that with just a few bits of greater attention to detail, Wallse would go from being a 'fantastic deal' to one of the best restaurants in town.

Great pretty place. Excellent staff- so nice. Food was amazing but there was not enough of it despite having four courses. Summer menu - all was good. Tasting Menu- Pea Ravioli- very good. Lemon sole, good but portion was maybe 2 ounces. Foie gras- very good- good sized. If price isn't an issue, this is a great place to try. The portions are small but delicious.

One day, years from now, I will think back on this restaurant and smile. How can you not? This is easily one of the most wonderful places in Manhattan. No, it isn't brash. It isn't farm-to-table. It isn't something flashy. It is, rather, like your favorite cardigan sweater. It is comfy. It is delicious. And it is perfect.

Part of what makes Wallse perfect is its staff. The bar, with its adorable bartender, is a delight. The assistant sommelier, who may bend the ears of your neighboring table with the history of the Cistercian monasteries and their role on the homogenization of the grape varietals in their control, is gentle and assured in his craft. And the waiters are engaging, capable, and kind.

But really, you're here for the schnitzel, aren't you? Well, if you're not, you should be. And have some of the quark spaetzle on the side. I think Wallse's schnitzel, with its lingonberry goodness and erdapfel salat, could probably be a candidate for my last meal. Finish off with some sachertorte. And maybe a little nip of fruit schnapps.

I know that some day, Wallse will be gone; I am almost mourning this future loss today. But for now, get there and enjoy it. A restaurant with an amazing team, an amazing schnitzel, and you can actually hear your dinner guest without straining to hear. I think Wallse is perfection.

After seeing the menu, we had high hopes. But you enter and are greeted with blasting '60s rock music. Who decided we wanted to listen to that? Why should I have to put up with someone else's idea of this kind of entertainment. It was like being on the beach and having to listen to another person's blaring boom bos. We almost left because we wanted a quiet place for conversation. But it was raining and didn't want to walk around looking for something quiet, which, increasingly, is an impossibility. Overall, compared to any moderate restaurant in Vienna, Salzburg or Innsbruck I've ever been to, it's half as good and twice as expensive. In terms of food, it is a fairly close approximation of what you would find in Austria. However, the food was so salty that it was almost bitter. The service was obsequious and rushed. Why can't New York restaurants understand that service should be attentive without being intrusive? And why does the waiter always have to keep interrupting to ask if everything is OK? In this case, because we knew we would never return, we just didn't get into the problems. Why start a fuss? It started with a rush to order the meal at the same time as we ordered cocktails. The waiter came to the table, with order pad in hand, as soon as we were seated with barely time to even pick up the menu. The first course arrived in a split second. No lingering over drinks allowed. The following courses arrived in equal speed. The waiter kept picking up my Martini glass to see if it was empty. I finally asked him if he needed the glass. He laughed. With three courses, we were in and out of there in about an hour. Not my idea of a leisurely evening out. You could barely put your fork down before it was scooted away. And no need to ask for the check; it came with blazing speed as well. It's a pretty restaurant, but the noise, the creepy service and the just-OK food takes this off the special occasion destination that the hefty prices implied it would be.

We were basically rushed out of the place.

If they allow people to make reservations for 10pm, then they should make sure people feel comfortable being there at that time.

That was definitely not the case.

Always a pleasure to eat at Wallsé. The dishes are based on traditional dishes (Wiener Schnitzel) or use ingredients common in Central Europe (rabbit), and are executed flawlessly. The wine list has a special section with unusual wines, we enjoyed a Styrian Gelber Muskateller. Service is excellent, and two adults can have a conversation which does not mean that the place feels stuffy -- it feels festive and neighborhoodly at the same time. Highly recommended. If you like white asparagus, it's the season -- but you may want to check whether it's hothouse from Holland , and if yes, wait for the real thing from Germany or Austria, much better.

We visited for my husband’s birthday, and everything was outstanding from the minute we got there. We each had a four course meal, with the intention of sharing, but after taking one bite neither wanted to give up any! We had: (1) white asparagus and green asparagus; (2) spaetzle and ravioli; (3) lamb and short rib; (4) chocolate torte and rhubarb strudel. Add in a bottle of wine and after dinner drinks and we had quite the birthday celebration! Great food, great service - we will be back!

We went to Wallse for a birthday celebration. It was a beautiful, warm evening and the doors were open to let the breeze in. We loved the vibe and ambiance as well as the food and the service. Artichoke and asparagus are in season now and Wallse had these items on the menu. I ordered the artichoke and my husband ordered the asparagus. Both dishes were delicious. All four of us ordered the wiener schnitzel which was also amazing. We will be returning!
