Excellent real-deal
Austrian food. The service was low-key and attentive. Early dinner res obviously accounts Low noise level. Could not be more pleased, and will definitely return. Best snitzel I’ve had in NYC- it’s real veal, not pork, or chicken. Highly recommended.

Had a wonderful time. Food was excellent. I had the spätzle to start followed by sweetbreads. All was melt in your mouth. Reasonably priced wine bottles. Would go again

The god was great - the wait stuff albeit super efficient, it’s felt rushed and not very personal. I almost felt like walking through a fast food chain that’s how rushed it seemed. No real interaction with guests - food was outstanding. Work on ambiance. Setting is there - this is supposed to be a place that reminds me of the amazing Austrian kitchen and the charm. Charm is missing

Great food - the best schnitzel I've ever had and my friend's duck breast was also superb. I'm not familiar with Austrian wines but the sommelier chose an excellent one. I found the maître d' a bit brusque and the service was uneven but overall an excellent dining experience.

We have been few times now and we keep coming back. It is the real deal, a chef restaurant, consistent and with great ingredients. The cocktail and wines lists are very fine, service is impeccable.

I gave the food a two out of five because my girlfriend's short rib goulash entree contained extraordinarily spicy peppers, and we were not warned about the spice level. She nearly choked on the food due to the spiciness of the peppers, and we had to ask the waiter for milk to neutralize the spice. I sampled one as well, and found it to be as spicy as a habanero pepper. When we raised the issue with the waiter, he explained that the staff had sampled the peppers earlier that day and found them to be mild, so the extremely spicy peppers in this particular dish apparently were anomalies. Needless to say, it was quite shocking and disconcerting to find such a potent pepper in a Michelin starred restaurant serving Central European cuisine. It unfortunately took at least 10 minutes of swigging milk before our taste buds worked again--at which point our meals had gotten cold.

The waiter made certain other accommodations--comping the goulash entree and a desert cheese platter. We appreciated the gesture.

Sadly, very disappointing after several great meals over many years. Both entrees were poorly cooked and one bore little resemblance to the menu description.

Terrific Austrian sojourn. Excellent wine list. Very quiet and refined. Best trout ever. The schnitzel was veal and every bit as good as in Austria. Waiter was very pleasant and even hailed down a cab for two green out-of-towners. Can't recmoment highly enough.

Delicate and elaborated dishes. Both traditional Austrian and modern American recipes. I always rate restaurants on their deserts (Ok maybe except my beloved Mermaid Inn). Quiet, cosy inside, nice sidewalk.

Herr Kurt has a firm grip on this most comfortable gem. The selection of wine-by -the-glass is good however a bit austere for some (me).

The decor has not changed in the several years we have been occasionally going to Walse, but it's still elegant and lovely. The chef has upped his game, however, and the food is better than ever. A little less "comfort" food in the Austrian tradition than it used to be, and more upscale fine dining (though it's always been very fine to begin with.

Positive greeting and immediate seating in full restaurant. Staff activity level very busy/rushed for Michelin rated venue. Menu modern for Austrian cuisine which we felt was positive. Wine list heavily tilted to Austrian selections and very highly priced. Our food was excellent in every course especially my butter lobster with spaetzle. Bread service far too modest served with micro size butter. Desserts also excellent. My stars are a reflection of how I felt immersed in their environment and my disappointment with heavily priced winelist. The interacting staff needs an upgrade in poise to match that Michelin star! I recommend Wallse and will return.

I have been dining at Wallse for nearly a decade and it never fails to satisfy. Highly recommended to those desiring modern European cuisine and also those who love art. Wallsé specifically has excellent seafood dishes. Come at least 4 times a year as the restaurant's expertise highlighting seasonal ingredients is some of the best in the city.

The preparation of the food and the freshness of the ingredients was good, BUT it was not Austrian enough! With the exception of the Wiener Schnitzel (which I can recommend) there are limited authentic dishes to choose from on the menu. Some items on the menu apeared to be Austrian, but once served it was a dish that reminded me more of a typical Italian parma ham with melon dish.
Last but not least, the service was rather dissapointing. The typical warm Austrian cordiality got swapped with a rather arrogant attitude..

This restaurant has 1 michelin star and a menu pricing consistent with that status. Great table setup, sheets and crystal glasses. Nice interior with wall art. Yet the service was not up to the expectation. The menu has starters and entrees. When asking the waiter how many we should take of each he said usually people take two of each. When we saw the portions we realized one of each was more than enough. Seems he just tried to sell more. Waiter also never came when we need to order some additional wine or so, only after we finished the food, which is too late. Overall, good food with poor service, and therefore not a michelin star experience.

Went for Restaurant Week with my husband, and it was a cute spot on the quiet side. Chose this because the menu options looked interesting, but was not wowed by the food. Desserts were particularly disappointing, and the spaetzle appetizer, advertised as 'rabbit spaetzle' had almost no meat in/on it. Wine list has some interesting German and Austrian varietals, but the server was unable to give us any guidance on what to order, which was frustrating. I wouldn't go back, except for a quick cocktail at the bar.

A friend took me here for birthday dinner, expecting wonderful food because they have a Michelin star. Our appetizers were excellent, but the entrees nothing special. Our desserts were a disappointment -- my Sacher torte, which I'd had in Vienna @ Sacher's, was nothing like the original except it was chocolate with cream -- far too light. My friends sorbet was outstanding. Service was spotty -- we had to signal them for everything we wanted except water. The stairs to the rest rooms were extraordinarily dangerous -- extremely dark and lit only with votive lights, and of uneven heights -- an accident waiting to happen. They were carpeted with dark carpet, which made them slippery (no treads). I have excellent eyesight, yet held tightly to the bannister, and strongly warned my friend who's eyesight is somewhat limited. We always try several restaurants during Restaurant Week, and find many to return to during the year. This will not be one of them.

With it's strong recommendations, Wallsé seems a natural draw for anyone who enjoys haute cuisine. And Wallsé goes to the trouble of publishing a Restaurant Week(s) menu, a sign of a positive dining experience to come. On this evening there were three of us, so Wallsé's triple menu choices worked out perfectly: we got to try all the offerings.

One issue with Wallsé is the off-putting rules on their website. Ex: Clients must call 48 hours in advance to reconfirm they are coming. I'm not sure if they actually enforce this rule by cancelling you if you don't call. The Business Casual dress code wasn't enforced, with some sweat pants & trainer-wearing fellows at the outdoor dining tables we chose. Extensive rules are both pedantic and raise expectations.

True to those expectations, service at Wallsé was impeccable, attentive without being overbearing. Our reservation note about visiting for Restaurant Week(s) was heeded, as we were brought the special menu and wine lists. Courses arrived in a timely manner and pace.
The Sommelier was friendly and engaging, also an advantage.

The food was expertly and carefully prepared and presented. But the creativity wasn't up to the expectations that the website broadcasts. And there were surprising glitches, the rabbit spaetzle was over salted, tasty asparagus salad presented with three half-asparaguses (are they that expensive, or does minimalism trump satisfaction?), and strudel equally slim, despite the generous Sacher Torte portion in comparison. Wiener Schnitzel was perfectly prepared, but this is simple comfort food. Ditto for the medallions of organic roasted chicken. Seasonings were subtle and layered, but in a good old-fashioned Austrian home-cooking vein.

Wines by the glass were pleasant, while the dessert wine recommended stood out, with a luxurious bouquet.

While Wallsé had many positives we've had more adventurous, memorable meals at other more casual Village dining options.

Since I was there before and liked it a lot, I expected a stellar performance but was disappointed. My friend and I both had the smoked salmon appetizer which did not taste smoked and was a tasteless piece of raw salmon. The entrees were better. My friend had the pork Weiner Schnitzel which was perfect, and I had a good fish dish. The desserts also were good.

Maybe it's because we went during restaurant week, but our experience here was pretty mediocre. The rabbit spaetzle was excellent, as was the quark strudel, definitely the highlights of the meal. But both the main courses (pork weiner schnitzel and a chicken dish) were incredibly bland and tasted just like something you could get at the IKEA cafeteria. The sachertorte was very dry and not really worth finishing. That being said, the dining room is gorgeous, and perhaps the food is better the rest of the year. One last note--our waiter placed the check firmly in front of my boyfriend, before realizing I intended to pay. He then awkwardly slid it towards me without making eye contact. Hasn't there been some sort of training that men don't automatically need to be given the bill?
