Walker's Wine Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
This was our second time here. Our first time was a late lunch and it was a great experience. Our second visit was dinner, the food was good, the presentation above average, but the service was poor. We split the mussels as an appetizer which are fantastic, but the plate and empty shells were left on our table for 10 to 15 minutes after we finished. The wrong soup was delivered and we waiting 15 minutes for the correct one. In general the service was very slow. I will think twice about going back, and it's too bad because the food is good.
The food was great. The service was terrible, it was a slow night maybe 15 tables of small groups 2-4. The server kept forgetting about everything after 2,3 reminders on our drinks, refills and dessert.
She blamed the kitchen yet I could tell it was her fault. I felt that was unnecessary to say that.. just apologize and go get my beverage and I wouldn't think anything of it.
I went with my husband and my daughter, hoping for a great oyster night, as they advertise they have fresh oysters from Rodney's. It turned out they only have two kinds, so we ordered 9 of each. Out of the 18, at least 5 of them are much smaller than the standard of its kind. Most of the restaurant charging similar prices will not serve customers under-sized oysters like that.
We were going to order scallops, but they were out of them. We read from the a few reviews that they were "always" out of scallops.
We then ordered the steak and lobster tail for one of the main courses, which came in with a long, dark strand of hair slightly "bake" into the top of the lobster tail! When we told the server, she just took the whole plate away without saying one word. We thought she wanted to rectify the situation as quickly as possible and would definitely come back immediately with a huge apology. However, less than 3 minutes later, she came back with another dish and laid it in front of me. I looked at her with astonishment, and she simply said this is definitely not the same lobster tail. She then left again without an apology.
She came by a different time asking how the steak was and later offered us the dessert menu, as if nothing has ever happened that night. At this point, we had made her aware that she had completely forgotten our other main course, lobster mac and cheese.
When she brought us the bill at the end, I was hoping she would acknowledge the mishap, and at least, take the dish off the bill. She didn't do either. I asked her when I gave her my credit card why she never offered us an apology, and she said she didn't know she had not.
I should have known from the beginning that customer service is definitely not their top priority when our serve talked loudly to the customers a couple tables from us while taking our order at the same time.
We will not return to this restaurant, for sure.
If our waitress said 'No problem' once, she said it 50 times, every time we thanked her for anything. Does she have ANY idea how annoying that is? Does she not know that the proper response for "Thank you" is "you are welcome"? Does she not know that we ASSUME when we walk in the door that she should have "no problem" serving us?
But that is not the big reason why we will never recommend this restaurant. Although the food was quite good, by the time we got it I was not in the mood to enjoy it, because my before-dinner drink was brought in a DIRTY glass, which is the ULTIMATE turn-off in a restaurant. To make matters worse, when the waitress returned with a replacement, it was very clear that the same glass had been used, and just wiped around the top - you could still see the grease below the line - UGH! Oh, and by the way, if you call yourself a Wine Bar, you should have a wider selection of wines by the glass for those oenophiles who might just like to spend a little extra to try something superior to the mundane choices on Walker's wine list.
Good Restaurant. It was a shame that the first 2 items we tried to order they were out of, thus the lower food rating. How a seafood restaurant is out of scallops and mussels is almost inexcusable. The rest of our meal was well prepared, service was great. As other reviewers have stated sitting by the windows while great for ambiance, it is a little chilly something Walker's needs to work on regulating so that all patrons are comfortable.
I travel a lot, and eat out a lot, safe to say I have a huge following on social media and knowledge of food and restaurants. I was recommended to check out Walkers by a friend, I myself am a huge seafood lover, no surprise when I got there and was given the menu, I fell in love with everything on there.
We both ordered the surf & turf, and I had posted the meal on my snapchat, within a matter of minutes, about 10-15 people asked me where I was eating. From the presentation, to the food and service, everything was exceptional. I live in Woodbridge, and made the drive, and def would do it again. Awesome food & service.
Their appetizers are delicious, although both of us didn't have the time (were starving) we will def return to keep eating, and I will 100% go there with any other seafood lovers I know :)
Thank you walkers !
it was my birthday and there was a note of it on the booking here but there was no mention of it and we were not about to make it known again. the waitress was very new and did not know the menu very well as it has changed ownership since the last time we were there. The meal most of us had felt like it was slapped together. you could not taste the seafood bc it was covered in an over creamy sauce that covered stacked shredded potatoes. not a favorite moving forward. oysters took awhile to get out as you could see one platter with ice was almost all melted.
Quite possibly one of the worst meals in recent memory. Oysters OK. "Award Winning" chowder akin to wallpaper paste. Calamari was cold, rubbery and tasteless. Grilled snapper was as dry as sawdust. To top it off, specialty coffees arrive room temperature and sans booze.
Somehow got charged an extra $17.00 (the cost of 1 glass of wine) over and above our wag jag voucher which was supposed to cover 2 glasses of wine and 12 oysters.
Service was ditzy
Nice room though
Everyone at the table enjoyed and were very impressed with their main courses.
The award winning crab chowder was a hit.
The seafood was fresh and delicious.
The starter bread was tough but paired well with the chowder.
The meringue dessert was tough and chewy.
Overall we had a great time and are planning for the next special occasion when we can dine here again.
I took my bf here for his birthday dinner as he loves seafood. The lobster was overcooked as per my taste but portion size was generous. The vegetables that come with the order should be more chopped up, it seemed like they just threw the vegetables and the potatoes on the plate to fill it. The lobster bisque that I ordered was delicious and he enjoyes his clam chowder.
we tried for a six o'clock reservation, the system wouldn't let us, so we settled for 6:30. yet when we showed up at 6:30 there were only a few tables occupied. wine and food were over priced. too many fried items on menu, should have more grilled. not much has changed with the rebranding.
Fresh fish, good bar, nice atmosphere. The staff during the week is brilliant, the Appy Hour Team and the kitchen hum, you get food and drinks on time and with a smile. I went there for an important event with OpenTable and the Matron had no clue what that was, totally blew off the fact that we had an Open Table reservation where I placed details about what was required for our seating (a birthday celebration). In addition the kitchen overcooked my burger and lobster (the bun was dark and crunchy as if it stayed under the heat lamps too long). I go there frequently and it has happened too frequently (you never overcook or leave a bun under a heatlamp that long. But our server Jamie was wonderful, attentive and kind. She was working hard as the restaurant was clearly understaffed (that seems to be a problem here), but all in all the food was good, but the kitchen needs to step up their game. The kitchen has a good menu, it makes sense.
My partner and I reserved a table..in Jacks section Tuesday nite..a rainy cold miserable February day. When we arrived, Jack greeted us at the door..he even remembered our names. We sat close by the fire and shared a bottle of white wine. I am allergic to seafood, of all things, but my partner insisted on Walkers as it was her birthday and loves it here. Jack steered me on to the Ribeye steak which was pre-ceded by a cup of their daily soup. My partner tried the seared scallops in rich buttery ginger sauce , then a seafood linguini. we both finished and then he came out with a special surprise birthday cake lit with a candle for my date. She was in heaven..it was a red velvet cake. All in all thanks again Walkers for making a memorable evening..it was quiet with the weather and all, but we were impressed again. Food ten points service ten as well.
Just as it was on Valentine's Day last year, this year was just as nice. The food was served hot, and was delicious. The server was knowledgeable, professional and attentive. Appealing decor, along with some light music. As expected on Valentine's Day, the vast majority of the patrons were adults, mostly couples with one exception of a table of adults with a couple of school aged children that were noisy, combative and had difficulty staying in their seats. Very distracting. Perhaps a word to the parents from the manager might have helped.
