Waldhaus Restaurant - Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel
German-inspired alpine cuisine such as divine schnitzel and cheesy fondue are just waiting to be devoured in an atmosphere reminiscent of a rustic hunting cottage. With a large fireplace and a wine cabinet, we promise to set the tone for a memorable dining experience at our "House in the Forest."
Smart Casual (no hats, sports wear or torn jeans)
Enjoyed our 33rd anniversary there, food was great and so fulfilling. Nice to go to a restaurant that gives you quantity along with superb quality every bite was tasteful!
Our server was so attentive and the food perfection. The dining room was gorgeous! Loved it!
The food was amazing, the views were spectacular, and the service was top-notch. Most notable was Angela, our server. She was great with her recommendations and her personal touch. To top it off, my mom left her purse at the restaurant and she personally delivered it to our hotel and hour and a half later. She would not even accept gratuity! Overall, a wonderful and enjoyable evening!
Overall great experience. Restaurant has good ambiance with really good food (not exactly cheap), but what do you expect at the Banff Springs. Only negative was our waiter Mark who was pretty arrogant and cocky. His service was efficient, but table-side manner was terrible.
My best friend and I came to Banff to celebrate our birthdays. We read reviews about the Waldhaus online and had to try it out. We truly got the “Waldhaus Experience”, not just as our meals. Everything was fantastic from the ambiance, to our server, to the view, to our outrageously delicious dinner. 10000/10 would eat there again. The only downside was the lack of convenient (and free) parking. But the little hike up the side of the mountain was completely worth it.
A wonderful location just a short walk down the slope from the grand Banff Springs Hotel. The old golf course clubhouse, which is now the Waldhaus, still has its historical charm and the windows look out onto the golf course, the Spray and Bow Rivers and Bow Falls just up a bit. The food is very good and all oriented towards swiss dining with fondues and a wide range of other plates.
Great food, great venue, awesome experience. Can’t wait to return!
Best fondue that we have ever had (truffle)
The beer selection is also outstanding. Many German imports on tap and delicious.
Wish I had room for the desert but I was too full of cheese and beer!
Perfect. And great place to Elk watch!
We ate at the pub, which is downstairs from the restaurant. They share the same kitchen. The schnitzel plate was delicious and we had a nice view of the mountains.
A hidden gem to say the least. The food was incredible and the service was even better. Highly recommend for a date night.
We brought my mom here for her 75th birthday and they spoiled her from the time we got in until the time we left. Our waitress Angela was amazing. We spent three hours in there doing the Waldhaus Experience, and what an experience it was. Everything was amazing. There was so much food, and we were able to take a bit of a break before we did out last dish for dessert. The atmosphere was so warming and delightful.
Excellent family dinner in wonderful surroundings. Always top quality service.
We have visited the Waldhaus on several other occasions and have enjoyed our visit but this time it did not meet the usual standards. The Beef Short Ribs were extremely dry with no flavour and the kids chicken breast also had no flavour, was overcooked and extremely dry and burnt. The only good part of the meal for everyone was the dessert but by then most of us were pretty hungry. For the price you have to pay, one would certainly and should expect more. I was really looking forward to this meal but was sorely disappointed and I am not sure that I would go back.
Perfect cheese fondue, great service
Set menu was great for a romantic date
We celebrated our 18 th wedding anniversary at Waldhaus and it was absolutely amazing! The food, the service and the whole ambience! Also Got a ride back to the hotel by their shuttle. It would be nice to know the shuttle service from the hotel concierge then we wouldn’t have to walk and get lost in the cold! So, pls let the hotel know there is a shuttle they can take especially when it is so cold outside.
Second time at the Waldhaus and both times outstanding food and service. The ambience can't be beat. In the rockies with an amazing view, roaring fire and great food. The schnitzel was perfectly done and this time enjoyed the truffle cheese fondue. Will be back for sure.
Everything foodwise was great as usual. Unfortunately we had a server who was lackluster. Was uncharacteristically unfriendly for this place, and opened with "Can I get you a beer or somethin' " and seemed uncomfortable to engage us. Never explained what the charcuterie board had, and was generally not too friendly or professional.
A special meal in every way. Impeccable service. We will definitely return
This restaurant is truly a unique experience and a must do while in Banff. Our server, Mark, was fantastic and had our whole table laughing.
At the Fairmont for a Special Event and dropped by the Waldhaus for Dinner. Good value for a restaurant at the Fairmont, great ambiance, quiet on a weeknight. Super service, everybody in the place treated us like royalty.
Hands down my favourite restaurant at the Fairmont Banff; food is always outstanding, as is their wine/beer list. Service is great- looking forward to dining there again.
Cant say enough about the Waldhaus. Fantastic food!!! Great service and an exceptional location at the Banff Springs. Great German Pub below the fine dining restaurant too!! Awesome. Not cheap, but well worth it.

Great New Years dinner
What a wonderful way to spend New Years! We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Warm regards, Jeffrey Carpenter Food and Beverage Manager
Excellent food and service. A bit pricey but that is expected for the area.
Incredible fondue. Interesting menu options with significant European influence. A very special $$$$$ treat.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It was wonderful to hear how much you enjoyed the fondue! We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Warm regards, Jeffrey Carpenter Food and Beverage Manager
Amazing from start to finish! Food, service, ambiance all spectacular!
Schnitzel was seriously overcooked, but everything else was spectacular from the service to the rest of the food. We look forward to returning!
I took my mother here to celebrate her 68th birthday. We were treated warmly when we walked in the door buy both maitre d and another staff member. And from there on in we continued to be treated so well by the staff. We were checked in several times. My mother is cold all the time and when they saw her go get her jacket, the maitre d offered her a fleece blanket which she gracefully accepted. I also saw him offer this to another woman. This was , what I feel, was above and beyond. It is an older building with character and of course along with that comes some draftiness. It made me and my mother smile when she was given the blanket. Julie was our waitress and she was phenomenal. Both her in the maitre d were so attentive and caring. We had the black truffle cheese fondue, appetizer size. It was delicious. We also both had the Jaeger Schnitzel. It was delicious. I would have given the food a five out of five except my schnitzel was quite tough. But that may be because it was a very large piece. The accompanying vegetables were roasted cauliflower and a braised red cabbage. It was absolutely delicious.
I had the apple strudel for dessert and it was delicious. One suggestion, if I was in charge of the menu would be to do a warm cream drizzle of some sort across the top. That would help with a little bit of dryness in the pastry. The ice cream and rum raisin accompaniment was delicious with it.
I appreciated that when we only wanted some water, drinks were not pushed on us. As well when my mother had a dessert coffee, they presented her with a little box of chocolates for her birthday. I am sorry I did not get the name of the maitre d, he was a very tall young man and he was excellent! Julie was excellent! I would not hesitate to rebook and come back to the Waldhaus. I hope I do so I can try and more the things on the menu that looked delicious. Thank you for making such a special weekend even more special for my mother and I.
Cheese fondue was delightful - not loving the new menu for the 'Experience' that now includes the entree choice of Schnitzel or Haus Sausages. We opted for the Schnitzel and it was nothing special except way too much food. Much preferred when the experience included meat fondue with veggies cooked in the broth.
Great food, all staff friendly courteous helpful....shuttle down from hotel very much appreciated..
One of our favorite restaurant however this time around we were not informed that the vegetable steamer had issues until we were half way through our dinner and our server brought the plate of veggies. For a Fairmont restaurant this was surprisingly disappointing. No compensation were asked nor offered.
If you have a chance and are in Banff, eat at this restaurant. It is wonderful. Great food, amazing service, excellent wine, fun atmosphere and beautiful view of Bow River.
The food was very good, and the restaurant atmosphere was very good
We dined here when my husband and I visited Banff. It’s nicely decorated that fits the overall theme of the restaurant and the staff provided good service. The food was just ok. It didn’t tasted as delicious as we had hoped it would then it’s the price of the menu items.
We would’ve really enjoyed our dinning experience hadn’t been for: firstly, Fairmont charging for parking which was not cheap and no parking validation was provided and secondly, the overpriced menu especially for the size of the portions. As much as we wanted to enjoy this place, we didn’t like that they take advantage of tourists by over charging for mediocre food. I highly recommend that you skip this restaurant and dine in one of the town’s restaurants. You have a better chance there to have a more enjoyable dining experience.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We have shared your comments with our culinary team as they are always looking for ways to improve. For future visits there is free parking available at the Bow Falls behind the Waldhaus if you are looking for additional parking options. I do hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Banff. Warm regards, Jeffrey C. Food and Beverage Manager
The service was great and the traditional German food was very authentic. The sauerkraut and rot(red)kraut were fantastic, much like my mother makes. They even had Asbach Uralt for an after dinner drink. The only thing I would have liked to have seen is a larger selection on the menu. Possibly sauerbraten, rouladen, goulash, koenigsberger klopse... Not complaining only suggesting a possible special or adder to the menu.
Location, location, location. Authentic German food in an authentic setting located in Banff (There are no bad views in Banff)
