Overlooking the confluence of Spray and Bow Rivers, The Waldhaus. our "House in the Forest" is a retreat for those seeking solace from Banff's bustle. What began as the Clubhouse for the renowned Stanley Thompson Golf Course has transformed into a sanctuary of Mountain gastronomy. In the dining room above, rich timber and a majestic hearth narrate the epic tales of bygone explorations. Meanwhile, the Bierhalle below is where history and merriment collide, offering a spirited space for companionship, games, and the shared joy of storied adventures.

Please note:
- The Waldhaus is designated as a historical building and such has stairs to access all areas.
- The Bierhalle and Billardhalle only take limited reservations, otherwise operating on a first-come, first-served basis
- Regrettably the Waldhaus does not take reservations for its patio due to the unpredictability of mountain weather however, we will do our best to accommodate patio requests on a per case basis.

    Roam Transit provided by the town of Banff runs approximately every 40 minutes to and from Town to the Fairmont Banff Springs. Enter through the Hotel's main doors proceeding down the hall past the Fairmont Spa and out the doors to your right. Continue down the pathway to the stairs on your left which will take you down to the Waldhaus.Bus Fare is $2.00 per person.

    Pleasant venue to have lunch. Patio seating provided beautiful views of spectacular scenery. Very pleasant, friendly server. Food was slow to come, but came out hot and generous servings. I would not really call this authentic Bavarian food. More of a bar menue with some Bavarian accents. Might have been it was summer, but dining room appeared closed and your options were patio or bar area. So pleasant meal, friendly service, spectacular views.

    Food and service were very good. Good selection of beers as well. Would recommend the pretzel appetizer and the bratwurst were excellent. Spatzle were also homemade and wish mushroom gravy👍🏻! Highly recommend the patio for seating, skip inside. Patio has nice large overhead sunscreen and view was spectacular. This place is a bit of a pain to get to. From Fairmont a long hilly walk so recommend a shuttle from hotel, especially if anyone in the party has mobility issues. We were initially told to park and walk up from bottom of hill near waterfalls. Bad idea. There is not much parking and the walk was steep uphill grade, about 250 meters, that is not paved and very uneven. See photos. In my opinion, unsafe for average person visiting the restaurant.

    Beautiful view on back patio. Had the pork schnitzel two ways (traditional and with cheese).both real good. Served with a great worm German potato salad and sauerkraut. Probably could have shared one entree if paired with one appetizer. We didn’t order dessert, too full, but the apple strudel with ice cream looked good.

    We sat on the outside patio on a beautiful summer evening. Canadian Rocky Mountain and valley Views were stunning! Service and food were also excellent! I had trout. Fresh and flavorful! My husband had pork schnitzel and also said it was very good!
