Wako was incredible. The unassuming exterior, the intimate interior, the excellent service, the engaging sushi Chef, and the freshest, tastiest sushi we’ve ever had made this experience perfect for my husband’s 30th birthday. Definitely recommend sitting at the sushi bar, and doing the tasting menu. A fun, unique experience to engage with the Chef and watch a master at work. Would come back in a heartbeat!
This was just the special night and memorable meal for a fun birthday! It will hard to go back to a typical sushi joint after having this level of quality for fish.
It was an amazing experience and food was fantastic,
Enjoyed eating inside with diners who were fully vaxed. Thanks to Wako staff for making everyone safe. We loved the sushi tasting menu - it was delicious and just the right amount of food. We also like the other menu options. Happy with that menu compared to more expensive omakase.
Good food and good service
Traditional and delicious!!
The sushi tasting was done exquisitely. Everything was fresh, served one piece at a time, and waitstaff were in point with everything. I didn’t lift a finger other than to eat and was provided the opportunity to eat traditionally- by hand.
Covid precautions were on point from entry to departure and the washroom was maintained in pristine condition (and with a heated, electronic toilet).
Taste, timing, quality, and service were all devine. I’ll be back.
Possibly the best Japanese in Sf at any price point.
No birthday celebration or mention at all. Was a bit disappointed they didn’t make my partner feel special, like it was another table they were turning out.
By far, the best sushi bar in San Francisco and everywhere else outside of Japan!!!
The food quality and pricing cannot beat! We are from Japan and we are highly recommend Wako.
Good food and service.
It was a special occasion and we enjoyed the service and the food. Friendly and professional staff. Great quality food. Don't miss the tempura!!
Great staffs, wonderful food and its selections. My wife and I had a blast and tried almost everything on the Menu.
Amazing Sushi!! Great service!
Best Japanese I have been to
Amazing ambiance, spectacular service, and phenomenal food! Price point is a bit steep: $86 plus included 18% gratuity for 10 piece sampler which wasn’t super filling but each bite was amazing. Jin was so engaging, entertaining, and knowledgeable.
Overall, expected more from a 1-star restaurant, especially one priced as such. The small cold/hot appetizers were good. The tasting menu’s nigiri would have been better if rice were a bit warmer. Our crab and ikura piece had crab shells — both mine and my partner’s. Black sesame dessert was good. Uni was fresh. Our bill of over $400 was not worth the meal unfortunately.
Amazing omakase experience. A little light on the portions so we ordered extra after the tasting. The otoro was sooo good that we ordered seconds. The wagyu was also very good!
Awesome experience. Very pleasant atmosphere. Delicious food.
This was the best sushi I’ve ever had, hands down. The service was impeccable as well. Even fish that I don’t normally like, such as octopus and mackerel, were amazing. I wish I could eat here everyday of my life. 10/10. I will definitely be back in the future!
Father son reunion
The food was great, but I have to say I felt constantly interrupted by the serving staff. It was not a relaxing atmosphere, where in Japan, a restaurant of this caliber would respect the speed at which the customer would enjoy the entire experience at their speed.
Exceptional meal. One of the best I’ve ever had.
Layout a little crowded but very traditional
Great for there 2nd week of indoor dining the menu is mainly a la carte w/ a sushi chefs tasting 10pc
The sushi was very good but I guess I am a Japanese food snob, compared to what you can get in Japan, it was nothing special, very small slices of fish and pre-seasoned.
The uni was very fresh. The toro could have been softer. The kakiage was very crispy and good..The chawanmushi was hot and good.
I would definitely go back by might not do omakase and order a la carte.
The food and attention to details was exceptional. Freshest fish I had in a long time. The sushi chefs were friendly and super professional. Bravo!!!
The food, experience, custom made service, and ambiance was amazing. We will be booking a reservation at Wako again soon.
Excellent sushi dining experience, especially at the bar with the chef working in front of you and serving. It was perfect from the moment we sat down to the moment we left.
Sushi as an art. Impeccable, amazing, outstanding, creative, fresh, delicious, beautiful, exciting, unmatched. One of the best sushi experiences of my life (and I have eaten a lot of sushi!) It is a small sushi restaurant, we sat at the bar. Our host/sushi chef was a true artisan and fun to interact with. Prix fix meal (omakase) was fantastic. Perfection.
This was the best sushi that I have ever had. I can’t wait to go back!
Amazing food for the price, given that Wako has a Michelin Star. Delectable pieces of seafood (scallops, tuna, snapper, mackerel, and amber jack come to mind, especially the seared ones) and great ambience in one of my favorite SF neighborhoods. The service was quick (a little too attentive at times but not too intrusive) and efficient.
Amazing in every way.
It was great as usual!
Amazing Omakase. The service and the food was some of the best Japanese food we’ve had outside of Japan!
birthday date. Just one candle, no big surprise
The food is interesting and the service is pretty much at the limit of what could be considered within reason. Pricey, but the experience is worth the price.
We were seated at the sushi bar and was able to watch the chief make our sushi as we enjoyed our course - the ingredients were fresh, and preparation was done meticulously (not to mention great value). The chief was also very friendly and made us feel comfortable by talking with us while still preparing the dish with great efficiency and skills. The service staff was also very friendly and courteous - definitely would re-visit in the future.
Incredible experience, staff is amazingly warm and the omakase menu is fantastic! Highly recommend
The service was amazing and the atmosphere is great but the food was terrible. We were excited for an omakase experience and knew it was expensive going in - 3 courses were inedible they were so bizarre and the nigiri sushi was great but would have been the same at a restaurant 1/3 the price. Not worth the price!
