Excellent food, preparation, staff, and an overall experience that was first rate.
I left not full. I ordered a lot of side dishes. Two of us spent almost $600, but not full; something must be missing. The rest was an amazing experience.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and wow it was the best omakase that we have ever had. The peices were absolutely amazing, the service was perfect, the aesthetics and cleanliness were amazing, there was nothing to complain about except that I wish there was more in the omakase. I would definitely come back.
Sushi part was disappointing
We were lucky to get seated on the counter. Everything the chefs recommended with the hot and cold small plates were delicious and the omakase selected were amazing. We ordered several of them a la carte afterwards. The chefs did a wonderful job explaining each sushi selection while serving them. We would absolutely recommend Wako to sushi enthusiasts for both the great service and delectable dishes.
Excellent sushi spot. The seating is a little close, which at time made it difficult to hear my husband rather than the table next to us.
Best dining experience I’ve had! Highly recommended. Not only was the food outstanding but the staff was just above and beyond exceptional.
Loved everything about our experience. Sat at the counter and loved watching our enthusiastic and artistic sushi chef. It was a very interactive, as he explained the origin of each piece of sushi (“these scallops just came off the plane this afternoon ,” and “this is from a 500 pound fish from Boston,”), how the soy sauce was homemade, etc. Our server also gave us some great suggestions for warm dishes in addition to the sushi tasting menu. The food was amazing and the service was warm and attentive. This is definitely a special occasion restaurant (sitting at the counter with us were 2 couples celebrating an anniversary and another couple celebrating a birthday), but the affable hospitality made it feel like a neighborhood place that you went to all the time…and if we could afford it, we would!
It was fantastic omakase sushi I have ever had before. The reason why did not give 5 stars on service because the receptionist at first look too moody to us and did not talk so nice to us, but chefs and other waitress was very nice and kind except that woman.
Probably the best Japanese restaurant in San Francisco. Best aspect is that they have reverted to being able to order a la carte rather than a set omakase menu.
Great food, however I felt that it is quite pricey!
Everything was good, beside shrimp tempura weren’t fresh.
Wako was as exquisite as I remember pre pandemic! What a treat it was to gift myself this incredible meal almost 2 years since the restaurant closed due to the stay at home orders. They’ve now opened up more menu options (not just omakase) and you can select the appetizers and kitchen/cooked dishes. Thank you, again, Toma-san, and see again in 2 months! I’ve missed Wako dearly.
The entire team was gracious; coupled with the amazing food and ambiance, the night was truly a spectacular experience!!!
A bit underwhelmed by the food. Certainly not “bad“, but certainly the worst Michelin star restaurant I’ve ever been to. Service was fine, majority of sushi was very good, but some pieces were not stellar. Expected a bit more quality. Fairly priced
Delicious, impeccable, original, and absolutely enjoyable. Cannot wait to repeat!
Quality of food and service was worth the price! We sat at the counter and the chef was warm, friendly and created a beautiful meal.
Wako always lives up to its name. We went here for my mom's birthday. It's her first time having omakase and she loves it. We do like Wako's previous option for omakase more. The one where they charged around $130/person that included hot dishes and dessert.
Amazing sushi. Some of the beat I’ve had outside of Japan. Would highly recommend Wako to anybody!
The chef preparing our sushi educated us about all the various types of fish we were enjoying, he was very passionate, which made for a great experience.
The food was amazing. Hig
Wonderful food. Exquisite service.
Wako was incredible. The unassuming exterior, the intimate interior, the excellent service, the engaging sushi Chef, and the freshest, tastiest sushi we’ve ever had made this experience perfect for my husband’s 30th birthday. Definitely recommend sitting at the sushi bar, and doing the tasting menu. A fun, unique experience to engage with the Chef and watch a master at work. Would come back in a heartbeat!
This was just the special night and memorable meal for a fun birthday! It will hard to go back to a typical sushi joint after having this level of quality for fish.
It was an amazing experience and food was fantastic,
Enjoyed eating inside with diners who were fully vaxed. Thanks to Wako staff for making everyone safe. We loved the sushi tasting menu - it was delicious and just the right amount of food. We also like the other menu options. Happy with that menu compared to more expensive omakase.
Good food and good service
Traditional and delicious!!
The sushi tasting was done exquisitely. Everything was fresh, served one piece at a time, and waitstaff were in point with everything. I didn’t lift a finger other than to eat and was provided the opportunity to eat traditionally- by hand.
Covid precautions were on point from entry to departure and the washroom was maintained in pristine condition (and with a heated, electronic toilet).
Taste, timing, quality, and service were all devine. I’ll be back.
Possibly the best Japanese in Sf at any price point.
No birthday celebration or mention at all. Was a bit disappointed they didn’t make my partner feel special, like it was another table they were turning out.
Amazing sushi and a memorable experience! Will come again!
By far, the best sushi bar in San Francisco and everywhere else outside of Japan!!!
The food quality and pricing cannot beat! We are from Japan and we are highly recommend Wako.
Good food and service.
It was a special occasion and we enjoyed the service and the food. Friendly and professional staff. Great quality food. Don't miss the tempura!!
Great staffs, wonderful food and its selections. My wife and I had a blast and tried almost everything on the Menu.
Amazing Sushi!! Great service!
Best Japanese I have been to
Amazing ambiance, spectacular service, and phenomenal food! Price point is a bit steep: $86 plus included 18% gratuity for 10 piece sampler which wasn’t super filling but each bite was amazing. Jin was so engaging, entertaining, and knowledgeable.
Overall, expected more from a 1-star restaurant, especially one priced as such. The small cold/hot appetizers were good. The tasting menu’s nigiri would have been better if rice were a bit warmer. Our crab and ikura piece had crab shells — both mine and my partner’s. Black sesame dessert was good. Uni was fresh. Our bill of over $400 was not worth the meal unfortunately.
