Sat outside and it was very comfortable. Food was delicious. They should create a way to protect you outside if it rained/snowed...then I would gladly come back in all types of weather. I don't want to dine inside.
Amazing service and even better food. Definitely our go-to on the UES.
Very attentive service, better wine list than most other Chinese restaurants, delicious and fresh food, fried items are greaseless and no stale oil flavors or smells. Love the tea-smoked duck, salt-and-pepper squid, Dan Dan noodles are a sure sign of a competent kitchen.
Nice atmosphere. excellent waitstaff and the food was fantastic, especially the sesame beef.
The food was delicious, served hot from the kitchen. Though they are known for their spicy offerings, we were able to find really good non-spicy, yet flavorful, dishes. Moo Shoo Shrimp was especially good!
The good is healthy, fresh, and delicious.
The staff is friendly.
Great ambience too!
One of the most excellent Chinese restaurants in all of Manhattan.
Superb. Great UES Asian. Well done.
We sat outside so ambience doesn’t apply the service was OK but they were busy inside so it was difficult to get service outside but they were still very nice and the food was good and I would go back again
Great food, service and ambience. Would highly recommend.
Excellent service, exceptionally delicious food. One of our party has celiac and the staff went above and beyond to make sure the ingredients in each dish were appropriate to her needs. The lacquered duck was succulent and there was plenty for 3–4 diners. Best cold chili noodles! We will definitely be back.
SECOND TIME I WENT TO RESTAURANT AND THEY WERE CLOSED!!
We dine here often. Consistently good. Server knew from open table that my bday is coming up and brought a dessert.
The food is very authentic and VERY delicious. The staff could not have been more hospitable. Looking forward to my next visit!
A much more interesting (authentic?) menu than most Chinese. Warm service.
Still in my top 3 Chinese restaurants in NYC. Far and away better than most. Service is extremely friendly and helpful. Many dishes are quite spicy but they can lower the heat if you ask.
Great place, delicious food and excellent staff.
Delicious food in a lovely environment.
This is a great spot to satisfy your desire for spicy, hot Chinese. Food is always solid, a family favorite. More upscale then Other downtown spots, and with better food.
Great service great seafood
Have been here several times over the past several years. The food is getting progressively worse. Will not be going back. To make things worse the prices are rather high for bad Chinese food.
I’ll be back
My husband and I have visited Wa Jeal on many occasions. Especially on the Chinese New Year. Over the years we noticed the attention to detail and the quality of the service is rather diminishing. Sure, we noticed that some of the "regulars" were greeted very warmly and paid attention to. But for the rest of the guests it was in and out experience, efficient, good food but that's all. Especially disappointed as tonight was the Chinese New Year Eve and there was no special menu, nor aknowlidgement like it used to be in the past years.
Been awhile since visiting Wa Jeal, but delighted by having an excellent meal. One of the best Chinese restaurants in New York.
Always friendly staff and always excellent Sichuan cuisine
We totally enjoyed the dining experience
Great yo me a good neighborhood rest. Food very fresh inventive and they couldn’t be nicer. Nicer than any around
We ate here on Christmas day. They were quite full but honored our reservation on time. The service was fast and attentive and the food was quite good. We had the seafood hot and sour soup which while on the hot side (it is a Sichuan restaurant) was fresh and flavorful. The table spacing is a little tight, but this is not surprising for a restaurant in a high rent area. Overall, we were very pleased with our choice and would return here.
WaJeal exceeded our expectations for our party of 6 on Christmas evening. It was a very busy night but the entire staff was friendly, efficient and accommodating. The food was excellent, came hot and ingredients were fresh.
Not disappointed! The tangerine chicken, calamari, and hot sour soup was perfect.
Food is always great!!! Luv the peking duck and spinach & ckn soup!!
Amy is the best server
Love it here
General Tso chicken was amazing and prepared mild as requested. Service was attentive and professionally pleasant. I will most certainly come back.
Elegant settings with authentic food. Staff are very professional and kind to accommodate our dinner for my birthday celebration to help taking pictures, recommending good dishes to order.
My husband and I try to get to this place every time we’re in Manhattan. Everything we’ve had here is great. This time we tried the Szechuan dumplings, poached scallops with green beans, braised flounder and Ma Po tofu. All were delectable, and our server was especially capable and attentive.
Really like General Tzso's chicken. Think food is best Chinese on UES. Prices reasonable, and orders prepared very quickly
Wa Jeal fits a unique niche between the lower-end Asian restaurants and the luxury orientation of restaurants such as Shun Lee. A diverse menu agreeable for most diners and an upscale wine list available as well. Portion sizes adequate and perfect for family sharing style. A nice opportunity for a more upscale dining experience on the Upper East Side.
We eat here every time we come to New York. Wish we lived closer. Love this restaurant.
Food was just mediocre, which was disappointing given the dearth of good Chinese restaurants on the UES.
Wa Jeal does offer delivery in partnership with Postmates.
