ambience is wonderful, service is professional , food is very good
Limited menu for 2020 but the Salmon and Pasta were fantastic as always. We had the artichoke dip and the flavor was great. My companion is a bartender- and she and I both truly enjoyed the rye old fashioned.
The restaurant was appropriately socially distanced and the ambient noise while dining was nice. The unfortunate part of the experience was the food. Three of the four of us ordered the New York strip dinner. Only one of the steaks came out prepared correctly. The waiter did not inquire how the meal was or check back aside from delivering the bill. This is unfortunate because it was an otherwise very nice evening. The cocktails were prepared well and the wine was very good.
The discussion within the table was that because the restaurant implemented a 20% service charge, there is no longer a drive to ensure the dining experience was excellent or at least worth the value of the meal. Underwhelming service and food will be the cause of this being the last trip to WA Frost.
Romantic patio. Good Covid practices. Great food.
The food was disappointing starting with the appetizer a charcuterie. The steak was tough and overdone and the pasta was soggy and cold .
We might try it for lunch on the patio next summer.
Every time I go to WA Frost, I fall in love with it again. Such a unique, warm ambience. Of course, it's not quite the same at covid-level capacity, reduced hours, and a slimmed-down menu. But the staff was welcoming and the smaller crowd had its advantages. Can't wait till the restaurant is back at full speed.
The atmosphere is perfect for a date night. The bar was quiet and service was excellent.
Wonderful ambiance, great neighborhood, cordial and professional staff along with prompt service without being over-intrusive and good food.
Should there be more to expect?
Loved everything about our dinner, including the service and atmosphere.
6 Stars!
WA Frost is always a comforting, enjoyable experience. Service was warm and friendly, the food was delicious, and we were seated at my favorite table next to the fireplace. It was a lovely evening with close friends and also wanted to support one of our favorite restaurants during this challenging year.
I think the restaurant needs a big 'refresh'... everything just seems tired, the
furnishings, the menu, the atmosphere...
The 5 entrees were less than exciting.. we asked for the cheese platter and got
the charcuterie board.
Server seemed distracted...
I would hate to see WA Frost not make it... and I'm certain the patio is your
life-line, in season.. but inside... it needs help in every category.
consistent quality, service with great wines and cocktails. Hard to beat the atmosphere!
Basement was freezing cold. We moved upstairs. Server was awkward
My Boss and I received a GC to use, so we invited friends to join. The food was fantastic! We were a bit surprised at the slower service since we were 1 of 2 tables inside. The outside was a bit busy though and our server was very polite. The host was helpful, but by no means warm/friendly. We love the atmosphere and overall everyone had a great time! It was socially distanced, clean and everyone was wearing a mask.
Used to be a great restaurant. Now its overpriced mediocre food with not great service.
The setting felt safe, and the ambiance was welcoming. The patio heaters were also welcome once the sun went down. The staff was helpful and attentive.
We weren't the right fit for the Frost. They're passionate about their safety measures and we found it dampened the service (not even remotely happy to see us for our special occasion) and atmosphere so we left before ordering.
Of course their patio is second to none but that time of year is winding down.
I went with my husband and adult son for a birthday dinner and we had a great experience. The tables were spaced over 6 feet apart so we felt very safe. The food was delicious and we enjoyed a charcuterie platter, a cheese platter and three entrees. My husband had a strip steak, my son chose a BLT sandwich, and I had salmon with creamy quinoa and couscous. We had a good selection of wine and beer. Our server was fantastic. She was very attentive and helpful and added to the enjoyment of the evening.
We had a wonderful outdoor experience - with all patrons well spaced. Thank you! We'll be back as long as outdoor dining is feasible.
This will be our last time at WA Frost. In an environment where you'd expect restaurants to be putting their best foot forward to maintain patronage, they fell extremely short.
With reservations, it took 15 minutes to get us seated. After watching staff continuously pass by our table, it took another 15 minutes to even put a drink order in. At that point, it was the host who asked as we had not yet been inquired upon. We then proceeded to put in our full order as the writing was on the wall.
After ordering off of a very limited menu, the food delivered was about on par with Piada italian street food. Not to say that is bad, but not what you or we would expect from this establishment - and for those prices.
Overall, the staff was complacent, the food mediocre and overall experience was poor. I'm sorry to say that WA Frost is no longer on our list of places to go in St Paul.
Very expensive food that's boring and not all that good.
Have had good experiences here, but the menu is terribly limited right now. $18 for a pretty average BLT? Everything is limited. The staff are nice...food just isn't worth it.
Always a great place to visit. Great food. Great service.
Enjoyed the wonderful patio. Limited menu - the common side (creamy quinoa/couscous with zucchini) provided with both entrees (chicken & Salmon) was just soso. Service was excellent and ambiance of course wonderful. Dessert was brought home to svaor wa hile watching a political debate.
The surprise 20% surcharge was quite the surprise over the already higher prices. Love the cheese and patio, but have eaten there for the last time
We really like this place. Servers were excellent
Our meal and service was very good. They are handling things very well given the difficult circumstances .
thank you for accommodating diners during this difficult time.
It was perfect on the patio with the gas heaters.
the service is polite, kind, efficient.
best wishes

I made outdoor patio reservations, recognizing they were weather-dependent. I also agreed to receive text message and email updates from the restaurants about my reservations. When we arrived, it was no longer raining but no one was on the patio. We found a server who explained they were no longer seating customers on the patio and that they gave up doing that earlier in the afternoon due to earlier rain showers and thunderstorms. I did not receive any call, email, or text notification about this. The server still found a spot for us inside that was farther away from other guests to help maintain physical distancing and we otherwise had a pleasant evening.
We appreciated the staff seating us in a sparsely-populated part of the restaurant to help us maintain physical distancing from other guests, but updates in advance of our reservation about the patio's unavailability would have been valuable.
I have always loved this place. Fab service...but awful food this time around. Chicken caprese salad was bland and strangely tasted like hamburger fat. French fries were soggy. Not at all up to par with my past experiences. Servers were wonderful, though!
Food was good but was surprised by the limited menu. Service was poor as the the hostess/server was not friendly/warm and had to ask multiple times for drinks. Not the best communications or follow up. Tip was built in otherwise I would have adjusted it down. Great place to eat but second time I had poor service ( other was last summer).
The process for ordering and paying for food and drink is via the QR code placed at each table. Servers bring the food and drink to each table. The service was terribly slow including a cocktail that never showed up but we had to track down a server to process a refund since we'd already paid for it. The quality and taste of the food was fair. Not what we expected from this restaurant and it's unfortunate that we won't consider going back to the restaurant again.
Good food, good outdoor atmosphere with string lights. Wish the host had told us that you don’t get a server and how to order and where to find the menu, but instead just sat us and left. After looking around and seeing a QR code we figured it out, but it wasn’t very clear. So in case the host doesn’t tell you anything - Because of COVID you actually order off your phone and need to pay or open a tab with a $150 pre-approval on your card through the phone. You can close it every time if you don’t want the pre-approval, but then you are re-typing info in over and over again. Make sure to have your phone charged up, mine almost died. If the host had been friendlier and informative this would have been 5 stars all around.
Required order only through the interNet without any instruction. Very limited menu. Service was nonexistent despite 20% gratuity being added to bill.
It appeared like they are having financial challenges
I had read the reviews and was worried about the ordering but staff was very helpful since I had no idea what to do to order my phone. The food is fine but the limited menu limits how often I would go. More options more visits:-)
We all miss the days of servers frequenting the table, making those connections, and inquiring about recommendations - alas, those days are numbered, but WA still has the best patio in the Twin Cities. Although the menu is very paired down, it offers fresh options for every diet type. I love WA and will return time and again - looking forward to the good old days.
the patio at WA Frost was very comfortable and the noise level was low so we could converse. Waitstaff was always available and the food was delicious.
This was our first dinner out since COVID and we really appreciated all of the efforts WA Frost did to make it safe as well as enjoyable. Especially the ability to reserve a patio table vs indoors. We have enjoyed this restaurant pre-COVID and the same great quality of food and ambiance remain. We had a lovely appetizer and burgers all ordered via our smartphone and everything arrived promptly.
We had a reservation but still had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. They are using an app called Presto for ordering both food and drinks. There is very little contact with wait staff (which is both good and bad). Presto places a $150 hold on your CC just about every time you order thru the app. We ordered 3 times: Drinks, appetizers; and main course, so the Presto app placed 3 - $150 hold on my CC. That wasn't a big problem for me, but it may be for some. The main problem I had was that I ordered an expense Barton's whiskey using the Presto app (btw - they charge an extra $2.50 for on the rocks), and then the bar waitress came out and told me they were out of the Barton's whiskey. She asked if I'd like something else and so I just ordered a Manhattan, which is considerably less expense. The wait staff failed or were unable to make a price adjustment, so I was stuck paying for the more expensive whiskey. There is no tipping, but there is a flat 20% service charge. My other complaint was that our dirty dishes were left to pile up and were not cleared away in a timely fashion. I frequently tip greater than 20%, but in this case 15% would have ben generous.
All the ambience you expect from the patio at WA Frost, with safety measures that are well-thought-out and unobtrusive. Highly recommend!
