WA Frost & Company
The new American cuisine at W. A. Frost is derived from an eclectic mix of ingredients meticulously sourced, with a very strong emphasis on local small farmers that use organic and sustainable practices. Minnesota's best wine list, best outdoor dining in the Twin Cities and the most romantic restaurant are just a few awards received.
I eat at WA quite a bit, and we are even having our wedding reception there in June. Absolutely love the place. Always great food, excellent prices, and outstanding service.
My wife and I had the Chef’s Tasting menu. Everything was wonderful! I do recommend getting the wine pairing. My wife and I didn’t, because we had already ordered a drink before the meal, but when my wife ordered a glass of wine that was the pairing for one of the courses, it was $17! Totally worth it, by the way, but the menu with the wine pairings was only $35 more than the menu without. Just a little hint :)
We enjoyed the service from the welcome on. Only issue was a $2 charge for bringing our own cake. Never have had that.
Great service and food. Beautiful building.
A nice Valentines Day lunch with excellent food and friendly, attentive service. Thanks.
We loved the decor and ambiance. The food was good. Not exceptional. I expected better. Like, not ground lamb in my tagliatelle dish but rather pulled. The dressing on the endive salad was overdone. I’d do something simpler and less viscous.
Beautiful setting, great classic building. Liked the cocktails. We were disappointed that prices were same as best Minneapolis restaurants but the service did not compare and the food was good but not great compared to several other similarly priced options in the city.
Lovely building but mediocre food (I had the burger) and no iced tea.
First bad experience at WA Frost All others have been good. This time we got seated 40 minutes after our reservation time and didn’t get to order for another 45 minutes. Food was mediocre at best. We got the vegetarian options and they were not very interesting or tasty.
Celebrating my mom’s 89th birthday!
We’ve always loved the ambiance but the last three times we’ve been there (in the past six months) we’ve had lousy service. At this most recent visit we sat for 30 minutes with only ice water before our server brusquely asked if we wanted anything. She seemed distracted and uninterested the rest of the evening. The slow, inattentive service was also true on the other two visits. The food was ok (except for very dry potatoes) but not exceptional. It will be awhile til we try again.
WA Frost has a warm environment and the staff was welcoming and courteous.
Overall experience was fantastic. Staff was very friendly. I had the chicken dish and it was extremely good. Great unique flavors and the chicken was perfectly cooked. Loved that they had mini creme brûlée for dessert! Would highly recommend this to friends and family.
Great experience. We had the chef's menu and it was wonderful. Food was excellent and service was really well paced. We've dined here several times but I have to say this was the best experience we've had. Big thumbs up!
Service was slow, on a Thursday, so asked the waitress if the kitchen was running behind. She gave excuse, that two at our table of four had first courses. We all felt her response was a bit rude, in both content and manner. Had she touched down timely with us, to see how we were doing with the first course, the second would not have run so far behind.
Fabulous food, wonderful ambience, reasonable price , and good drinks. The dessert menu was rather limited. The only thing that was mediocre was the service.
We had a wonderful birthday lunch outing at WA Frost. As in the past, the food was exceptional and the service was very good. Didn't realize that the only handicap entrance was from the parking lot in the back, so a little difficult to enter from the front with wheelchair, but once we were seated, everything was very nice. Highly recommend!
Great place for business or intimate dinner
Food was a very nice blend of new a old flavors. I liked everything we had.
Delightful servers , loved the cheese tray. Had the Sunday brunch omelette and quiche...shared 2 entrees with 3 ...almost too much.
Excellent service, our server was amazing as was the food!
WA Frost is dependably a great night! We were slightly disappointed that the the tasting menu was not available, since that is specifically what we came for. However, the food we did have was excellent and we definitely plan to return for the tasting menu on a future date. Also, I love the zero-proof mocktail options! It's so nice to have a non-alcoholic alternative that still tastes great, and we look forward to spending some evenings on the patio sipping mocktails there.
Love how warm the restaurant is. Not drafty despite big windows and old house
Waiter had no sense of customer wants and needs. Offered nothing about the menu and trivialized the special.
Meal came shortly after salad which came shortly after the appetizer. Result was cold food. Waiter did offer to have the kitchen keep it warm...seriously.
Pork tenderloin sauce included mushrooms...pickled mushrooms. Besides the pickled flavor, they had an unpleasant taste. Meal also served with polenta. Bad. I make much better at home.
Sea bass not bad, but the crust/skin was bitter. The dish wasn’t intended to be serve cold.
The manager did come around as we were finishing our desert; however, he was not engaging or really interested in our experience. Not interested in clearing the table.
This was the first bad experience we’ve had after many great meals. In short, the hostess was gracious, but the waiter and manager are not assets to your business. The spinach dip appetizer was good, the salad, fair, and the main courses disappointing. The meals we had should be re-examined by a discerning chef.
INCREDIBLE food in an awesome atmosphere. Possibly the best meal I have had in the 27 years that I have lived in Minnesota.
The dinner was tasty; the waiter, attentive, though he, apparently, didn't know a birthday dessert had been requested to honor one of the four at our table; it got awkward to remind the waiter while we were all seated. The room was a bit noisy for easy conversation, and the chairs, for one of our party with some back problems, quite uncomfortable.
The ambiance was appealing, nevertheless.
Our waitress was exceptional!
We had a wonderful and relaxed lunch with close friends. Nice to go someplace at noon hour without the hustle and bustle. The food was delicious and presentation very pleasing. Our waitress was very helpful with our menu selections and saw to every need without being intrusive. The atmosphere is so pleasant at Frost’s that we enjoyed coffee and dessert before leaving. Truly a gem of a place.
Thank for sharing this, we appreciate it!
Everything was perfect...the food, the service, and the ambiance. It is definitely a St. Paul treasure!
On my list of favorite Twin Cities restaurants. The atmosphere beautiful and serene, the staff accommodating and perfect in their service. Artichoke sandwich and side salad with apple cider dressing is still on my mind. Can't wait to come back with more friends.
One suggestion. I would serve the pumpkin cake warmed
Kathleen, Thank you for the feedback and a great suggestion.
OMG STAY AWAY!!
When I placed my reservation I noticed several poor reviews but thought no I've eaten there many times over years it's fine. I was wrong we waited over 3 hours spent $200 (only 1 glass of wine) and never received a salad let alone our entree's. Correction they handed us our entree's in a box as we finally decided to leave. Whomever is running the place needs to be escorted to the curb. It was a Tuesday night and the Kitchen couldn't get anything done. NEVER AGAIN!
Delicious. We splurged and got the chef's 6 course tasting. Worth it!! Expensive, but a fair price for being able to try a lot of variety in one meal. My favorite was the quail and the cheese plate.
The building is historic and beautiful. The bar staff attentive and friendly. The patio area makes a wonderful place for a romantic dinner, but the dining room is also lovely. There were a few good vegetarian options as well as tasting menus. Will be back!
Service was slow in spite of the fact that they weren't busy. I requested blue cheese dressing and they didn't have it so suggested the lemon vinaigrette and it was awful!
I was somewhat disappointed with the menu selection. There should be at least three more selections of entries with an offering of a chicken dish. The service was exceptional and the deserts were delicious. We most enjoyed the combination of the mini desserts. Overall we very much enjoyed our dinning experience and will come again.
We sat on the patio on Saturday for lunch. Would have preferred to have a regular lunch menu and not only brunch. Also, we thought the prices were quite high for what we received.
Please bring back the lamb burger!
The food here is amazing-- creative use of ingredients and food traditions. Every mouthful was worth savoring.
Late lunch on the patio on an 81 degree day under the shade of umbrellas was wonderful. Excellent food and service.
