VUE Ratings and Reviews
Vue is a nice restaurant overlooking Dana Point Harbor. We were a party of 10 with kids. Went for Sunday brunch. We were seated right away, nice big table outside on the grass with ocean view. White linens cover the table with coffee, water and juice all ready. Also two umbrellas were already set up over the table. Server Jose was very attentive. We were fine with the brunch selection. Saturday evening, we ate at Overvue, above the Vue. The appetizers were a generous portion. There was a good band playing. They sang to my Dad for his Birthday. Server was also attentive.
The service was excellent, & the view is great. It was nice to sit outside & watch kids playing on the spacious front lawn--even though they weren't our own! My husband & I got the Margarita pizza as an appetizer and the Italian meatloaf for dinner. The pizza was just ok, very skimpy on the cheese, but the meatloaf was fabulous. Recommended, especially if you are staying at the hotel.
The occasion was the yearly Fourth of July Fireworks and Barbecue spectacular. And, as usual, it was a wonderful event. The food is very casual for this occasion and focuses on the traditional BBQ : barbecued chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled steaks, and baked beans. But there are enough interesting and delicious salads to keep the health conscious happy - as well as fresh watermelon for dessert. The custom mac and cheese station created a delicious bowl of everything - we shared more than one.
The live music is fun, the outdoor seating is lovely, and the family friendly atmosphere (and games for the kids) is great.
And, of course, the fireworks from Dana Point Harbor are thrilling!
Horrible experience. Our reservation was for 7pm. We were seated immediately, but our server did not greet us for half an hour. Ee finally ordered, but were still waiting for our meal at 8:30. We addressed the issue to the hostess, who apologized but we were unwilling to wait any longer. We went to the Vue Above Lounge upstairs, ordered, and received our meals within 20 minutes.
We had a very poor experience. Service was extremely slow. Only half the restaurant was open and the wrong half. All the tables with ocean view were kept empty. Strange decision for a restaurant called Vue. Staffing or management issue. I couldn't tell. We're local and this will be the last time we visit Vue.
Great location for a Sunday Brunch. Lots of tables. Well organized.
Although I booked 2 days in advance, they didn't have our reservation, and seated us inside, by the kitchen. So no stars there.
Staff was very attentive and most of the food options were tasty. (Breakfast, omletes to
The Chocolate Fountains were a hit.
$95/pp Pricing was off a bid and charging $20 for parking, ($13 voucher) didn't help as a exiting experience.
The restaurant is beautiful. The staff is warm and friendly. The food was excellent as well as the service. It is a gem! The only bad thing was the restaurant was freezing. Also I wanted an early reservation and Open Table said there were none. When I got there the restaurant was empty.
Our waiter, Alec, was super awesome. Extremely polite and very attentive. He made some great suggestions.
The ambiance was great. It was quiet for a Friday night, which surprised me, but the view of the ocean was amazing.
My only complaint is that both mine and my boyfriend's meat was a bit overcooked. We both asked for medium and definitely got well done. But it still tasted good. The sangria is very good as well.
Fantastic restaurant, food, service & view! We went here to celebrate a special occasion and could have not been more pleased. Their fries are fantastic and their carrot cake dessert was out of this world! This restaurant and hotel is definitely a best kept secret and a place we will come back to again 😊
Way over priced, food was less than acceptable, service was good. The stuffed shrimp tasted like artificial crab that had spoiled and had the consistency of hair and sawdust. Steak was good but small and the veggies were quite good. The soup was very good. Staff all seemed tense, they were friendly but artificially so.
We stayed here over the weekend, and had our valentines dinner at Vue. The food was excellent. We had the crab cakes, and both of us had the filet. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, as ordered. The mashed potatoes were flavorful, but very smooth. They could have used some texture. Overall, the food is not the problem.
It's not fancy enough to charge the prices they do. Well, they're getting away with it, I guess--barely. It's kind of a cross between a fine seafood restaurant and a coffee shop. Cheesy carnations at the tables, lackluster decor.
The other problem was the service. It took over an hour to get our entrees and our waiter wandered around a lot, looking confused. The coordination between the kitchen and the waitstaff was seriously lacking. The fine-dining service you would expect here was absent. We ordered the creme brulees to go and were a little shocked to see the ramekins had been dumped out in the boxes. My husband's was chocolate, and it did not look appetizing AT ALL. Again, the food saves it again, because they were both delicious.
I wouldn't eat here again, the value to price is too low for us.
We went to VUE as part of Dana Point Restaurant Week. We really wanted the stuffed prawns on their prix fixe menu.
While we are local. We had never been to VUE before. Perhaps it was an off night but it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was almost empty. This is good if you struggle to hear normally at restaurants. The service was very good, and the food tasted very good as well. But we found the ambiance weird and would not return for an evening dinner unless we were joining friends already going.
Perhaps during the day it's better especially as there is likely a view from the windows that's visible during the day.
The Vue is in the 4 star Marriott. A beautiful hotel. The restaurant was empty. Only 3 couples on a Saturday. The staff said this was the usual.
Food was ok. Not a 4 star. We had the tasting menus. Very good salad. Butternut squash soup was interesting. Had a different flavor. Entry combo of soggy crumbs over shrimp & shortribs. Flavors were good but the soggy crust ruined the shrimp. Dessert of choc creme brûlée was tasty.
If this hotel wants to impress it needs to step up its restaurant.
First of all - the menu on Open Table - is not the current menu. I used the menu when selecting this restaurant tonight for a party of four. We are staying at the hotel.
When we got the menu, I looked at it and said, sorry, this looks like the lunch menu. Waiter, a nice young man, says that is their menu. They have a new chef.
So instead of getting a selection of the lovely menu listed on Open Table, we could choose between hamburger, Rueben, club sandwich that was a lot of processed chicken on dark bread with a slice of cheese. There were a few other lunch type items and three or four dinner items which were priced like the old menu.
I'm gluten free. Their French fries are not gluten free. Very minimal choices.
The food, other than the club sandwich was ok. Our friends loved the tempura battered carrot cake. It's pretty much a coffee shop with a great view. The server was pleasant. He tried.
Maybe the menu will get better. Check before you go unless you want sandwiches or salad. Only seafood is a farmed Scottish salmon.
This was my second visit for lunch at Vue. It was a birthday celebration and the celebrant and his wife enjoyed It The staff was most cordial especially the lovely lady hostess.
In my opinion I felt the menu was somewhat limited. Would have liked more of a variety.
also, I tried to make a reservation a week in advance and was told no one was available (this was in early afternoon) and received little encouragement. I finally made reservations online.
