Vue 1913 - Omni Grove Park Inn Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant was marvelous! We ordered many of the small plates so that we could try more things and it was all wonderful. The service was top notch - not intrusive but our every wish was anticipated and taken care of before we could ask. But plan on arriving at the hotel very early as the parking was a terrible nightmare and the restaurant is at the far end of the hotel from the lobby - quite a stroll!
It isn't often that you have the "perfect" dining experience but this meal was so very close that the criticisms (and I use that word very loosely) are minor in comparison to the overall wonderful experience. First, the location is beautiful, the hotel as well as the restaurant. Our server was very personable and offered good advice on our selections of food and wine. The food was absolute perfection! Our only less than stellar observation is that, once we were done with everything, our server was slow to bring the check as we sat idle for about ten minutes. Now, he could have needed a bathroom visit or something could have been going on with another customer that we weren't aware of, so in the bigger scheme of things this was a minor blemish on a great meal. Prospective diners should keep in mind that this is a hotel restaurant so this pricing will be higher than what you might expect otherwise - but we felt that it was worth it.
Tyrell Shelton, "The Vue 1913" restaurant manager, personally made a perfect evening for what I had intended. I brought my high school sweetheart of 40+ years ago to the "The Vue 1913" to propose marriage to her, giving her a beautiful engagement ring. Not only did Ty orchestrate my proposal to her to make it perfect, but he also video filmed those moments, and even had a plate inscribing "Congratulations!!", in chocolate brought to our table following our creme brûlée dessert! Ralph, a most wondrous waiter, professional and gracious in every way even brought her a rose, and chocolate nestled on rose petals. It was a beautiful night at a most romantic restaurant having a most delicious dinner made possible by Ty Shelton and Ralph!! We will be back. Thanks for helping make a most wonderful memory!!
The only thing that saved the evening from being a total loss is the breathtaking views. The food was horrible. One dish had to be sent back as the temp was as if it was recently taken out of the refrigerator and not warmed. Service was outstanding, however. Next time we go we will just have cocktails and apps at the outdoor, yet heated, restaurant. For $40 an entree we were expecting much more.
Beautiful restaurant and wonderful service. My kale salad, although small, was delicious. The smoked oysters were gritty and I gave up after four because smoked oysters shouldn't be crunchy. The service was really exceptional. From the time we checked in we were welcomed and several people wished me a happy birthday (our reason for celebrating).
Nice view of the sunset. Six of us at a (literally) 30" wide table and were very crowded.
Everything is overpriced, with extensive but price-y wine list that offers no reasonable options. Ordered a Pinot Noir that was fair. I had the filet, which was OK, but could have had a much better one at lower price at Ruth's Chris.
Appetizer menu is very weak. Ordered bacon-wrapped dates off the tapas menu and they were very mediocre.
Overall, decent food at high prices.
I surprised my husband for his 30th Birthday by taking him to Vue 1913. The ambiance, start, service, food and incredible view of the sunset over the mountains was amazing. It was also very cool to discover that a lot of historic people have ventured to the Omni Grove Park Inn. We are still reminiscing over our dinner there, and definitely looks forward to stopping by again whenever we’re local.
This was my 60th birthday dinner with my wife. Our reservation specifically noted that and my wife called the restaurant a few days before to make certain this was a special evening. She requested a window table. Party of two.
On arrival, 15 minutes early, we were asked to wait at the bar and they would come get us at exactly our reservation time. Fine, a little odd, but ok. We were shown to a large, rectangular table for 6 in an unspecial location. We asked for a different table, as we had requested, and were told to wait back in the bar area. 10 minutes later we were seated at a proper table.
The food was fine, I suppose, but nothing special. The pricing was consistent with an overpriced hotel "fine dining" restaurant. They charge 25% higher for the same food you could find at a nice restaurant.
The "special occasion" was completely forgotten until after the bill came. The sever brought a pre-prepared plate with a cheap candle melted to it and two chocolate truffles.
Save your money and eat at one of the dozens of GREAT restaurants in the Asheville area. For half the price you can eat like kings/queens at Curate, Limones, Market Place, Isa's..., etc.
Our server, Karen, was very professional and knowledgeable and was the only bright spot of the evening.
Everything about Vue 1913 is outstanding. The views of the mountains are phenomenal -- especially if you happen to catch sunset. The waitstaff is attentive, the ambiance is romantic, and the food is out of this world. I swear the fillet mignon melted in my mouth. It was probably the best meal of my life!
For the high prices and the high-end billing in relation to other spots at the Grove Park Inn, I expected more. The food was average, steak needed to be sent back since I ordered medium and received medium rare, some dishes under salted and some over, and dessert underwhelming. If you want great food at Grove Park, head over to Edison!
Nice restaurant with good ambiance and service. We did the foraging tour that morning and the chef made an excellent appetizer from the goodies we collected. I got the Coby filet. While the steak was very tender and juicy, it did not have much flavor. For the cost, it was a dissapointment.
Quiet location in the Grove Park Inn. Good for conversation. Beautiful mountain view. Portions were small, and , while very tasty, the "small plates" were tiny. Shrimp and grits was 3 shrimp with the heads and tails on, leaving little meat. Regular portions were an average size.
