About Von's Steakhouse & Oyster Bar
Vons Steakhouse & Oyster Bar is locally owned and has been proudly serving Edmonton the highest quality of beef and seafood available since 1988.
Featuring a premium dining room, three private dining rooms and a premium casual lounge with exposed brick, New York style 30 foot bar and oyster bar this restaurant has something for everyone.
Happy Hour from Monday to Friday starts at 430 p.m.- 630 p.m. We serve our full menu in both the restaurant and oyster bar areas. Our Oyster bar generally features over 15 varieties of oysters are are shucked to order right in front of you by our bar chefs. We offer 30 wines by a glass with specific attention to Pacific Rim and Canadian Wines.
Dining reservations are recommended but not required. We love spontaneous visits. The lounge, patio and oyster bar area is first come first served. ( some exceptions )

We booked a private room for a bday celebration. Our first glitch was a call to note they didn’t actually have a private room available as they had double booked them. We were assured our large group with several young children would be well placed in the dining room. When we arrived the hostess seemed to have lost our reservation all together & when they found it had no notes of our discussion when we learned the private room couldn’t be accommodated. We were seated in the lounge at a high top table so my sister in law had to watch her 2 year old carefully so she didn’t slip out if the booster seat (all they had although we had requested & been assured they had a high chair) for the night.
Half the tables appies arrived cold & although were quickly replaced they noted they would be complimentary but we had to remind the server to take them off the bill. The lounge is loud & not great for a large group celebration. We were disappointed in the organization & accommodation for our group. We have booked larger groups there often without issue so don’t know what’s changed at Vons but hope it’s a short term glitch.
The waitress and staff were not very welcoming it felt as they were not willing to serve us. We had no plates and had to ask for everything. We also felt rushed and not welcomed. Also we got a parking ticket even though they told us we get free parking as guests there and I provided my license plate number to them.
Went last night - it was our third time. Our steaks (NYS) were tough. Mine was over cooked, husbands was cooked perfect. As I was cutting my last piece of steak I found a hair underneath it. My baked potato was huge but very dry as they were very cheap with the toppings. When ordering a second bacon Caesar I had to wait close to 15 minutes as “they” were changing the Clamato..... definitely not what we are used to quality or service wise. Very disappointed!!!
New Years Eve dinner was amazing from the time we arrived to the time we left. The service was outstanding and the ambiance incredible. Seated beside the fireplace as requested was devine. Thanks to all the staff for making our New Years Eve a wonderful, memorable experience!!
Our service was fantastic. However the food was subpar, the steak burger was extremely salty and steaks were not seasoned. We ordered prime rib steaks, it was simply pan seared. I had to add the garlic butter from our bread, salt and pepper to season it. For the value, it was not worth it. We were celebrating a graduation meal with my family. The private room was nice. Overall our experience was good because the service made up for the meal. We dine at Vons at least a 4 times a year, the food had always been expectional however this time it was not. We left disappointed.
It was extremely cold outside and we were greeted at the door and hustled to a cozy table. They had set up a couple of space heaters to keep the room warm which was a nice touch. The service was great, waiter was funny and accommodating but not hovering. The food was very tasty but my husband’s steak was slightly overdone. They offered to get him a new one but he declined and they offered us desert instead. The service was prompt and the food was very good. We will return.
Well, in my opinion I loved the taste of everything. But, the oysters were too crunchy for some reason and the garlic bread was overcooked. The portion sizes were very small for dinner. The people were nice and it's a beautiful place, but the food quality needs to be stepped up.
Requested a private table for our wedding anniversary on a Wednesday night. 2 other tables in the entire restaurant and they sat us right next to a family of 8. Dining room was so cold I didn't have feeling in my fingers by the time we left. Steaks weren't cooked correctly. $150 wasted, we could have done better at home for much less.
I reserved a table well in advance and indicated that my wife and I were celebrating our very first date 45 years ago. Parking next door in a paid parking area; however just register your vehicle when you arrive for free parking. We arrived on time and were greeted by a tall girl who confirmed our reservation. She asked if we would like to check our coats and we said yes so she gave my wife the coat hanger to hang the coats. Hmmmmm normally the hostess will actually take the coats to hang them then place them in the cloak room. Anyway we were escorted to our table beside the fireplace. Very nice ambiance in the dining room and the tables were not too close together. Diane took good care of us from beginning to end. Drink orders were placed and served in good time. Placed our appetizer and food order. I had the jumbo prawn cocktail and my wife had the Mushrooms Neptune. Both aps arrived after only 7 minutes and were delicious. The mains arrived 10 minutes afterwards. I had the 14 oz. prime rib and my wife had the 6 oz. filet both medium rare and cooked to perfection. The 6 oz. filet looked very small and I'd question if it was in fact 6 oz. There was no seasoning at all on the filet which was rather unusual so my wife had to use salt. My PR was a hefty cut with nice fat throughout(which I cut off) Good size Yorkshire pudding came with it as did a side of horseradish and gravy, not Au Jus which disappointed me. The PR flavor was okay but the gravy was a packaged variety with zero au jus added which would have nicely added additional flavor to the meat. I just salted the PR and left out the gravy. Plates were promptly taken and we ordered dessert. Creme brule for my wife and double chocolate cake for me both of which were tasty. Disappointing with the very small portion size of the unseasoned filet and also no Au Jus for the prime rib. Also
disappointing was the fact that no one acknowledged our 45th anniversary of our first date!!
I got a table at Vons steakhouse in the lounge for a birthday party. The atmosphere was perfect and service was outstanding. Everyone was talking about how much fun they had. Owner is super friendly and makes sure everyone has an awesome experience!! Would hold another party here in a heartbeat. Thanks guys!
Food was average, service was friendly but only one server for the room so it lacked.
$27 dollars for advertised 1/2 lb of crab to go with meal and only got a single crab leg.
Called when the manager was in to ask about the charge for the crab and call was never returned. Definitely won't go back or recommend to anyone.
We have dined here at least twice before, once for a family gathering and once for a family birthday. We chose Vons as we wanted a quieter restaurant in which to visit and because we enjoyed our previous experiences. We were so disappointed to see how the quality of food and attention to detail has diminished. The person who greeted us was wearing a red flannel shirt, perhaps because it was rodeo weekend. She was cursory, not welcoming, seeing if we had a reservation. Made us think that we certainly didn’t need to worry about dressing up to go to dinner.Even though the restaurant was not full on a Sunday night, (November 12) the waiter had a loud voice so every transaction with other tables could be heard. The prime rib was grisly, which seems pretty unheard of, considering the cut of beef. The tenderloins were tasty, but squished and tired looking, not a thick cut. The sweet potatoes on the side on both our plates were not hot. (There were 4 of us). All the hot foods presented could have been hotter on hot plates.
We are from out of province so the biggest insult was the pre-programmed 20% tip!!! Is this the norm in Edmonton?
Also, on the rating scale above, I rated everything on the lowest scale, but I have no way of knowing whether the lowest star is on the left or not. Your form needs more instructions.
One of our favourite restaurants, but a bit pricey. There are definitely comparable restaurants for less. It's also disappointing that we can't take advantage of buck-a-shuck oysters in the restaurant (it's only available in the lounge). However, the oysters and the steak tartare make this one of our favourite restaurants notwithstanding the price.
It's been a while since I wanted to visit Von's but I just didn't have the perfect excuse. Finally I got one! Birthday surprise dinner!
I booked our table trough open table and everything went as planned. I got a phone call the day before to confirm the reservation and to ultimate details.
We got a nice table for two, close to the fireplace, lighted by a niche alcohol candle and a perfect set up.
We started with 8oz of red wine, Catena from Mendoza, followed by three bacon wrapped scallops with a wasabi-spiked cocktail sauce, not too spicy not too mild.
We ordered a Prime Rib (17 hours to be ready as per the server) with red-skinned mashed potatoes and a New York Striploin with fries and we decide to share a side of asparagus.
Both plates were delicious, every bite was perfectly cooked.
As I requested on the reservation, the server came with an slice of cake and a nice sparkler birthday candles decorated by strawberry syrup.
Before leaving we walked through the launch just to check it and looks like its a nice as well.
Oysters specials are Mon - Fri 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm & all night on Sundays at the lounge.
Half price bottle of wine on Mondays; great way to start the week for sure!
We will come back to try the Oysters for sure and enjoy the lounge area and a good Caesar with them!
We booked dinner at Von’s as our daughter was in town visiting and wanted to take her someplace special. It was a home run. Our server was more than knowledgeable explaining the extensive oyster selection and the meals themselves were perfect from appetizers through to desert.
