Definitely busy! Definitely a fun place to take a tourist. Parking can be difficult, but if you use a valet service like Luxe, it will not be an issue. Booked reservation for friends coming into town and visiting. There was enough of a variety on the menu (and one that didn't make it overwhelming) so that even our pickiest of eaters had something to eat...until he was met with celery salt on the fries. I have to agree with him - that's icky.
Server was friendly and kept our soft drinks topped up - always a good thing. Special pricing, which is $5 off, for those who can produce a WA state drivers license.
I would definitely come back.
There's a lot of stuff going on in this eatery with a full-size American flag covering the bar area's ceiling, a gimmicky spinning wheel in the back, and walls inundated with picture frames.
-- Creamy Bacon, Duxelle Sourdough Scala Pasta:
WINNER. I never had sourdough pasta before, and I can assure you now, it'll ruin all other types of box pastas out there. These little pasta bites were cooked perfectly (I hate al dente) and had a toothsome chew. The creamy sauce accompanying the pasta was also wonderful. This dish was also topped with an egg in which I could've done with or without.
--Prosciutto, Fig, and Baby Arugla Sourdough Pizza:
Not bad, but it was more of a flat bread with toppings on it. Nothing strikingly amazing.
--20 Ingredient Curry Pizza:
Well this little guy had a plethora of ingredients thrown onto him. Also another flat bread-like item with too much going on. The flavors were battling each other to be front runner with no one winning. I wouldn't personally get this again.
Overall, the bulk of the stars go towards the sourdough pasta and not to be missed. The pizzas, on the other hand, were mediocre.
DInner here was great for my husband's birthday. The classic hamburg and the flatbread pizzas are our favorites. One tip - ask to sit in the front dining room where the main bar and drink wheel are located. The back room doesn't have nearly the same ambiance.
Met some friends from out of the area. It was very easy to find and they loved the atmosphere. The wheel of fortune spins and it selects a special drink from the bar. Food, beer and ambiance very easy to enjoy!
Great menu for a quick lunch downtown. Prices were reasonable and the service from ordering to receiving it on our table was extremely impressive. The burger was just how described in the menu (juicy!) and the presentation was great. I love the outdoor seating area option for sunny days.
It was good food and the waiter was good and very nice.
Always a fun time, I just wish they had more gluten-free offerings. :)
The guys at the front were typical snobby hipster types, which I guys set to mood for the restaurant but they coul have been a little more welcoming. Our server, I can't remember his name... Just that he was allergic to fish... Was super awesome! He was around whenever we needed him and split out plates for us without us even having to ask, which was a nice great service touch! The raspberry balsamic cocktail was to die for! And the homemade pasta is absolutely amazing! We will be back!
had a great time lot of fun great drinks staff was fantastic!!!
We had a pleasant lunch. Food was delivered in a timely manner and our waiter was really nice and efficient. Food was great and we had a nice birthday lunch. Would be nice if you gave dessert to the person celebrating their birthday. Just a little recommendation.
Von's Gusto Bistro 1000 Spirits is a great place to eat within walking distance of the Seattle-Bremerton/Bainbridge ferry terminal. Love the Edison bulb chandeliers, the décor, and the restaurant as a whole! There was no wait, especially for the bar, on a Saturday night, and the food and drinks were fast. Our waitress kept the drinks, food, and water flowing, the presentation of the food was great, and the drinks were stellar.
My only criticism was that the food was VERY rich. I suppose it's my fault for not knowing what lardons are, but the inclusion of them into the smoked salmon chowder was over-the-top for richness and I had a stomach ache for the rest of the night because of it. The pizza was wonderful, with enough to take home and enjoy!
the overall experience was good. the food was good; the wine was expensive but good. our waitress was really nice but when she wasn't available we were totally ignored by the other two waiters.. the kitchen messed up our order but they quickly fixed the mistake and we were out of there just in time to hit the show near by
My husband had the Vodka Mussels and it is now his new favorite way to have them. You are left with a wonderfully rich delicious tomato soup.
Great place for drinks and good food. They were super busy so service was slow but the waitress was very apologetic over it. Was a little upset that they made us wait until our entire party was there to seat us, we could have easily had at least a round drinks while waiting for our last two people.
I loved the cozy ambiance of this place. My husband and I will definitely return to try one of the pizzas and a burger. We each had a sourdough pasta dish - the husband had the spicy Italian meatballs with sourdough scala pasta which was tasty, and I had the devilish sausage & perlina pasta which was quite delicious. Neither dish was very spicy, but the flavors were excellent. Cocktails are reasonably priced in comparison to the rest of Seattle restaurants, and they are very good at Von's. They seem to know which flavors and liqueurs mix well together, and they don't skimp on the amount of liquor! I will be trying one of their spun sugar cocktails next time which looked fun and delicious! Service was a little slow at first but turned around and became more attentive throughout the rest of the dinner. I highly recommend!
This is my second time at the new Von's. Loving Manhattans, I was sorry to see the old place go. Although the menu is limited, the food is delicious and generous. I actually ended up having three meals out of the salmon pasta. Drinks are great. The place is lively and fun. Convenient to SAM and Benaroya Hall.
Party of 3, chose to sit in bar...happy crowd..The food and drink wa great and our waiter...fantastic!
This place is convenient for an early dinner before shows at Benaroya Hall. We hit the Happy Hour in full swing so it was noisy, filled with downtown office workers in large groups. This was a Tuesday. There is a good selection of fried fish and chips, sourdough pasta, pizza, salads and burgers. The bar wall displays a myriad of liquor bottles beautifully lit. We don't drink cocktails so I can't comment on the quality. Two of us split a cod and chips, and an interesting pizza topped with smoky bacon, apple and dried cranberries. They did not skimp on the thick-cut chunks of bacon. The chips (fries) were great too! The portions are large so three slices of pizza went home in a box.
The Salmon, Duxelles and Asiago Cream Sauce with Sourdough Homemade Tromba Pasta was so delicious. Definitely would have that again!
Von's is right around the corner from the office, and has fallen into the "tried and true" category. It has a diverse menu, fresh ingredients, and not to mention so FAST! I love the cocktail wheel and the local discount. Also, some of the best pizza/pasta/burgers that you can find in this city. Most definitely will be back again and again.
We can here for dinner on a Saturday night. our waitress was not the friendliest or the bar tender later in the night. The food was okay but not great the sourdough pasta was interesting but not anything to rave about. the $5 martini is probably the best deal in town.
Very noisy, but the food was great and the list of spirits was impressive. The location is perfect if you're heading to/from Benaroya.
We were only in town for one night, and Von's was perfect for our one dinner out. There were a lot of families when we arrived at 7, and by 9 it had turned into more of a bar atmosphere with the music turned up and livelier chatter. The cocktails were great. We would recommend the Gimlet and The International (comes with a cool table trick). The food was just as great. The salmon and duxelles pasta was great, and our favorite was the perlina pasta with sausage and broccoli - SO GOOD. Our waitress was great - let us take our time while we chatted.
Food was very bland and relatively expensive for what you get. Cool looking place, but not the best service and the food really needs some work - bland and uninteresting.
Our server was friendly and ready to recommend a few excellent drinks. The drinks were mixed perfectly. Fresh sourdough crust on the pizza was delicious, and the sourdough pasta was unique and delicious as well.
Wow- what a neat restaurant! Awesome views, very hip interior. The food was incredible! I had the pasta with mushroom and lardons, honestly some of the best pasta I've had in my life. They have a big wheel that they spin every now and again to determine what the happy hour special is- that was very fun! Great cocktails. And our waitress, Jaime was very fun and a great server. I've always driven by this place wondering about it, but now I'll be bringing out-of-town guests here for sure!!
We had a great night out here - food was excellent and the cocktails are unique and delicious. There was such a huge variety of drinks we wanted to try them all! Fun atmosphere and great location. Will return next time I am in Seattle!
We dined with our friends prior to the Seattle Pops concert. My first impression, when we walked into the noisy bar crowded with hipsters, was "we don't need to come here again." There is a small dining area in the back of the restaurant, which was somewhat quieter, so we were able to talk to our friends. The food was fantastic, with a wide variety of choices available. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and provided good service. I've changed my mind -- we will be back. It seems like Von's Gusto Bistro would be a nice quiet venue for lunch, which we will try sometime as well.
The food was very good, the service was excellent, but the space was a bit tight and the noise level a tad loud to have a team dinner to catch up on what's going on. We noticed several small groups and couples having a great time, most of them in their 20s and 30s out for informal social occasions. We enjoyed the experience but wished it was a bit more subdued so we could have a group conversation.
Wonderfully improved re-location! The service is absolutely lovely with welcoming, happy hostesses, servers and management. The variety and quality of food is impressive! This is a place 2 return again and again, prefect for pre- or post concerts, too!
Did not try the hamburgers, which they emphasize, and did not sample the huge wall of liquors. Without those two elements, what remained was generally lackluster in preparation and rather pricey. It was adequate, but it is probably best to stick with what they claim to do well.
We went to happy hour after 10 . We really liked the 2.5$ martinis and the crab cakes. Service was friendly and fast. A small thing-the hostess couldnt find the opentable resevation at first and didnt seem to want to find it. I had to go back up to the desk to make sure it was found. However, she was freindly and did find the resevation
The food and drinks were very nice, and great service. Unfortunately, it was too loud for my parents in their 70s (mind you, they didn't complain but it was quite loud). But I'll be back!
PS -- It was odd to have to use a password for the restroom and the staff does not warn you...it was word of mouth from the person leaving!
Von's has a great menu for casual dining and the food is delicious. The sour dough pasta and salmon is wonderful. The service is friendly and prompt. We will definitely be back.
If you are looking for a good food and good drink, this is your place in Seattle. We absolutely love the menu and selection of the drinks... Must to do list if you are in seattle
