Volterra never disappoints. Ingredients are local, seasonal and fresh. Service was excellent. This was my first brunch at Volterra and they offered the full menu to accommodate any desire.

Went for my birthday dinner and was comped a terramisu for the table. We love the food and the wait staff and the wonderfully tasty vineyard margaritas!
Neighborhood gem. My mom and I will be back for happy hour soon :)

First visit to Volterra. Tried during restaurant week. Finding parking took a while, being in Balllard. Came out of a rainy, dark night into a cozy but plain restaurant. Food was outstanding--3 course meal of tomato soup, lamb shank, chocolate cake. Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. Tomato soup was like summer in a bowl--fresh tomatoes, drizzled w pesto, a few croutons on top. Lamb shank was fork tender and falling of the bone. Vegetables and polenta on the side. Will be back. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Overall outstanding.

compared with other good Italian restaurants in Seattle, Volterra is just mediocre, with lackluster service.

I've always wanted to try the restaurant because it looks so inviting when I walk by. I was joining a friend for Restaurant Week and it was one of the three places she requested. I arrived early and got a great little banquette seat, looking out at the room and the windows to Ballard Ave. We each ordered the arugula beet salad, which was very tasty. My friend and I split the lamb dish and the crab stuffed ravioli and both were delicious. We had to desserts, chocolate cake (or something like that) a la mode and some sort of lemon one. Both good. Our server, Jessie, was great. I thought I'd try a different kind of Manhattan made with hazelnut, but was leery because I don't like too sweet. I was told if I didn't like it, which I didn't (too sweet), they would make me a standard Manhattan, and that's what they did.

We stayed over two hours and they were full and had counted on our banquette seat to be part of the seating for a party of 10 scheduled for 8 p.m., so Jessie very politely apologized and asked if we would mind transferring to a two top. We said we'd be happy to and did, but she still comped both of our second cocktails, which was much appreciated. All in all, great experience. Great atmosphere, great food, great service.

The food is consistently delicious and the service always top notch.
A great menu where it's hard to pick which entree we want to order. Whatever we pick though is the right choice.
Volterra is definitely one of our very favorite Seattle restaurants!

We had a great "Dine Around Seattle" dinner at Volterra. The entrees were exceptional and not the standard fare of most restaurants. The desserts were also scrumptious and just the right size. Only drawback was the ridiculously expensive wine and tight seating.

A great dining experience! We've always found Volterra to be consistently superb with a comfortable ambience, excellent service and a short but wonderfully varied menu. For first timers to Volterra we suggest the wild boar, which is outstanding. A well rounded wine list, cocktails created with care add to an overall great place for special family dinners, or a romantic dinner for two. Too top it off, the desert choices we've had were all scrumptious!

Disappointing. The beer was overpriced (and not that great, according to the beer experts). The food was so so. The service was poor - ordered a dessert at the beginning of the meal with the three-course set menu. Waited after our entrees were cleared. Waited. Asked someone else (our server was nowhere to be seen) for the dessert and the check. That person (not the server) brought the check, we paid, it cleared - with the promise that dessert would be there any minute. Waited about 45 minutes for the tiramisu.

This is normally one of my favorite places but tonight definitely not measure up. Our easier had an attitude the entire evening, the food didn't come out together (had Rio wait about ten minutes for one part of a table of four, dessert was missing pieces yet there was no break on any part of the bill. I still tipped my normal 20% but that was only out of habit and because I’ve had this waiter before and he’s been great. I don’t know if it’s just a bad night for him or what but the restaurant needs to step it up

All in all a pleasant experience. The wait staff was great and attentive--that was the best feature on this night. The food was okay. I had been her before a few years ago and it was fantastic. Not sure what has changed but the the food was just okay. Not sure I can put my finger on everything--execution was okay, plating was okay, taste didn't blow me away. We had a nice time but not exceptional. Not compelling enough to want to stay for dessert. I put "anniversary" in the invite and there was no mention of it. Why put it down? I would still recommend it to someone for a casual night out but it has come off my list for special occasions and wow factor. They have a solid thing that they do and probably just want to keep it that way.

Great service and wonderful seasonal pasta dishes. The only knock was we were seated outside, which was wonderful until it got a bit cold, and they were out of propane so they couldn't light the space heater. Otherwise it was a perfect evening.

The food was delicious and the drinks were out of this world!!! The only bad part about the dining experience was the terrible service. We were sat and did not place a drink order for 20 minutes. Our waitress could have gotten us to purchase at least 2 more rounds of drinks if she had bothered to check on us. Still a great place, just bad service.

The menu offered many choices which we were interested in. The savory food was tasteful as well as nicely plated. We had the tasting menu which was offered at a good value. The dessert was challenged plate presentation, taste and texture. We enjoyed single glasses of two wines, red and white as well as cocktails. The beverages did not disappoint as they were balanced in flavor.

Service was great, food was average. Given the prices and their reputation, I expected the food to be much better. We were there for a birthday celebration. My son had the wild boar, which he thought was excellent. I had the arctic char, which was a bit dry (cooked too long?). They treated us to a tiramisu (with a candle in it) for dessert, which was a nice treat but it didn't have much flavor.

we frequent Volterra, and have seldom had a bad experience. I have had many dishes on the menu. I will say that for the first time I did not like my main course. I ordered the crab ravioli. The raviolis themselves were great, but someone in the kitchen thought it would be cool to absolutely smother them in an otherwise nice light tomato sauce. It looked like tomato soup with ravioli in it when it came to the table. After scraping the sauce off to the side, I enjoyed the dish.

come on folks, northwest, crab, great raviolis, don't show us how much sauce you have.

Overall, this place is great, wine selection is fantastic. They feature some killer Chiantis.

This was one bad dish in many we have experience, generally a super place to eat.

We did not get the tasting menu, instead electing to order our courses a la Carte. But after waiting over 40 mins for the main course we just politely asked for the check. At that moment our meal arrived and it was as always, delicious. However our waiter twice stated in response to the delay, fairly aggressively, "YOU ordered three courses." I don't understand this effort to put us on the defensive for a reasonable request to pay our bill due to an unacceptable delay. It made us both uncomfortable and mildly irate. To this point; A couple was seated, fed, and billed in the time between our apps and main course. There was no reason to do anything other than acknowledge the oversight.

Bar service was impeccable and the food was perfect. But as an industry veteran, being aggressively accused of being the cause of what was an obvious oversight, and also incorrectly so, was just a bummer.

Will be back, the food is just too good. This was a miss though.
