I had read the reviews on and had it recommended to us. My husband enjoyed his meal My salad was supposed to have beets in it. There was probably 5 tiny pieces of beet. You had to look for them trust me. I had the veal chop. It had a lot of fat on it and absolutely tough. On the up side of things our server was just wonderful and staff were very attentive. The food and quality of the food served just isn't there.

Waiter was not attentive at all. Had to ask another waiter for dessert menu, came by one time and picked up an empty glass. Didn’t ask if we wanted another drink and took off before we could ask for another drink. Had to flag waiter down from across the restaurant to ask for bill.

Celebrating my wife's retirement we had dinner at Volterra before a show at Kirkland Performance Center. Hadn't been in a while and the food was still delicious. Service left a lot to be desired. We were seated at a banquette in the middle of other couples. All had different servers, ours could not get his act together. We were seated first and both people on either side of us got drinks, bread, appetizers long before we did. Food was great but service means we won't be back for a while.

Great small place with great unique meal options. The fixed price 3 course menu was a good deal. Nice special selection as well.

Went for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere was nice, and our waitress was very pleasant and attentive. We went for the tasting menu. My father raved about the crab ravioli, polenta with mushrooms was alright, nothing special. Chicken was pretty good, as was wild boar, although the sauce was overwhelming (but good). Dry fried potato wedges and bland grilled peppers did nothing as a side for the boar and the sauce, and did even less for the shrimp entree. Shrimp was also bland, didn't go with tasteless potatoes, and overall wasn't an impressive dish at all.

Desserts were the best part, loved the panna cotta, nice texture and strawberry sauce was just sweet enough. Very light and moist tiramisu, and the chocolate dessert was also excellent.

Overall for 200+ for four people, no wine or other drinks from the bar, next time we'll chose another spot to dine.

My wife and I go out to eat a lot, and we are often a bit disappointed that the quality of food is lower than or equal to something we could have prepared at home. During our meal at Volterra, every dish met the bar of "better than we could have done", which I suppose is all you could really ask for.

Good food, good service, overall a pleasant experience.

This was not my first time here. Usually the service is good and food worth talking about. However, we were very disappointed by the rudeness of the waiter and the poor preparation of food. Couple of people in our party were vegetarians and we mentioned it twice to our waiter. When the appetizers arrived they were not made veg. When we pointed it out, the waiter said that he can’t divine that there are vegetarians. There was no effort to make it right and we were forced to order another appetizer.
One of us asked for the manager at the front desk and it turned out that the manager was our waiter!
He did apologize when it was pointed out that he was being outright disrespectful.
Couple of dishes were not cooked right - shrimp had to be sent back for more cooking.
Net: Both the service and the food left a bad taste...

We went to Volterra for Seattle Restaurant week. They had a great selection to choose from on the 3 course menu. My wife had wild boar and I had the lamb. Both were prepared perfectly.

Went for Restaurant week and found the food and service to be excellent. The RW menu included appetizers, mains and desserts from their regular and tasting menus so you really got a great idea about the quality and kind of food they normally serve. We had the lamb shank and wild boar tenderloin and both were excellent. This was our first visit to Volterra, but will certainly not be our last.

We went in for dinner, but ended up sitting in the bar and noshing during a Sunday Happy Hour. The bartender was fantastic! The food & the drinks were spot on. We had an appetizer that was a dreamy mix of the lightest, fluffiest polenta I've ever had with a lovely mushroom ragu draped over it. I would go back for this alone! We've been to the Volterra in Ballard a number of times, and were afraid this one might not be able to compare. Happily, we were wrong! We'll be back often.

Enjoyed a 3 for $33 dinner at Volterra Kirkland. Several of our favorite Voltetra dishes were on the special menu (e.g., crab ravioli, lamb shank) and servings were smaller for the special menu, which we prefer. The dark chocolate cake was yummy!

The restaurant week menu was creative and delicious for the most part. However, the crab ravioli was quite ordinary. And we had to hunt to find the beet pieces in the beet and arugula salad. The wait staff were too quick to remove our plates. They took the bread plates away while we were still using them. And asked me twice if I was finished my main even though I had a fork full of food waiting to eat!

Let me start by saying, I wished I'd dined here sooner! We've lived in the area for some time but only recently dined at Volterra.
We were very pleased with our meals. Four of us had four different entrees and the dishes did not disappoint: wild boar tenderloin with creme de cassis, Gorgonzola mustard sauce, fingerling potatoes, seasonal market vegetables was my favorite, but my spouse really enjoyed the Braised lamb Shank (green olives, rosemary, onions, celery, Sangiovese demi glaze) served with creamy polenta and seasonal market vegetables. She thought this was some of the best polenta she's ever had.
The reason I gave the Value selection only 2 stars is because of the restaurant's new corkage policy: $30 per bottle.
I enjoy collecting, cellaring and pairing great wine with great food. Volterra is not the only culprit in the realm of unreasonable corkage fees, but my enjoyment of their well-prepared food is diminished by high corkage fees. I know there's a business case for alcohol being a profit point for restaurants, but at $30, I will rethink my restaurant options in the future.
