VOLT offers guests a menu of modern American cuisine. “The focus of our cuisine is based on classic flavor combinations, creating sophisticated dishes that emphasize purity and seasonal flavors that are based on fundamental and innovative cooking techniques.” said Voltaggio. VOLT’s relationship with local artisan farmers ensures availability of products to fulfill the philosophy behind the menu, in a refined, historic venue where classic meets modern. By design, the restaurant follows along the original footprint of the mansions first floor parlors. Both the 38 seat main dining room and the bar/lounge open off the foyer. The original mosaic tile in the foyer was the inspiration behind the warm monochromatic color pallet that adorns the finishes in VOLT. Private dining can be hosted in the conservatory offering views of the expansive courtyard. The 700 square foot kitchen afforded space to include up to 20 guests.

I have been to Volt on numerous occasions. Never have I been disappointed in any aspect of the dining experience. The food is, without a doubt, the best I have ever eaten and I have traveled over the world and eaten in some very upscale restaurants. Brian and the staff always have several courses that I want them to keep bringing to the table and forget the rest of my order. I have become such a dining snob so to speak because I want the same quality of service everywhere I go. Volt is not just a place to have dinner, it is a dining experience--every time--and they never disappoint. In addition to my son and daughter-in-law, who have been there before, I brought two friends who had never been to Volt. It is always fun to see newbies reaction to the experience at Volt. They will certainly be back. Thank you, Volt, for making the evening unforgettable.

I've been wanting to eat at Volt for a while and finally got there. I would say overall it didn't quite meet my expectations. I love the outside of the building, but the room that we were seated in, was a bit spare. The food was presented well and was very good, but not excellent. The service was good, if maybe a bit stiff and we did have to ask for the remainder of our wine, which was on ice. I'll probably return, maybe in the summer and hope that we have a better overall experience.

We've lived in Frederick, MD 19 years and finally experienced the VOLT dining fuss: a well-deserved POSITIVE fuss too! A gustatory delight! Instead of a 60th birthday party with a handful of family, another handful of friends, numerous work colleagues and acquaintances I chose to honor my husband's special day in quiet surroundings, enjoying well-prepared food, in the company of our sons. My husband likes simple, home-cooked meals; he possesses a down-to-earth palate. However, he does not shy away from trying new dishes and he was duly impressed with his birthday dining experience. Every dish at VOLT surpassed expectation. A restaurant that values old-world, fine dining; where food is meant to be experienced not merely ingested without thought or regard. Kristen took special care to explain the menus and how each worked (we opted out of the 9 course! We'll try that next time), and -- a consummate professional -- did not look down on us because we were interested in shareable plates. She went as far as to suggest apps and smaller menu items suitable for sharing. The atmosphere was quiet with soft, excellent ambient lighting. Each dish (apps, shareables, entrees, desserts) is explained in detail, every possible question anticipated. While initially off-putting, being encouraged to order apps, shareables, entrees, and dessert at the same time made the occasion PERFECT as the festive chatter went uninterrupted. We departed 3.5 hours after arriving. Be aware, for special occasions: until the person who makes the reservation arrives, the rest of the party will not be seated. It was supposed to be a surprise dinner for my husband and this was the only kink. Instead of walking into the dining hall to be surprised, we were met in the lobby by the dinner guests who were the surprise for my husband. Pricing: Considerably upscale - commensurate with the experience. This isn't food for food's sake; it is a dining experience.

I’ve been fortunate to enjoy fine dining, including several Michelin starred restaurants in the US, Europe, and Japan. I have eaten at Volt a handful of times before. I booked the Chefs counter for a special occasion. The chef was not very busy but not at all engaging. The wait staff broke stemware on my place setting prior to the food being served, did not replace my drinks or place setting, only the plate. I had to pick up several large pieces of glass from my place setting. The staff slammed two other plates into the overhanging counter edge while serving. They rushed through the descriptions of the courses without clearly speaking. The food was uninteresting and flavors were, for the most part, unremarkable. After spending $400 (without alcohol), I expect to be “wowed” It was just the opposite. I won’t be dining back at Volt any time soon.

We had the brunch tasting menu which offered a good selection of dishes. I really liked the ravioli and the cod dish. Neither my daughter or I cared for the cold scallop dish, I think I prefer a hot scallop dish. While I didn't care for the short ribs or dessert, my daughter really liked both dishes. The only reason I wouldn't recommend Volt to others is the price point. I had a gift card so wasn't concerned about the cost.

Through its more than 10 years in existence, Volt has never disappointed. The food is always excellent and presented superbly; Service is always prompt but not fussy and the overall impression is that it is time an money well spent. We went to celebrate our son's birthday and had the 5 course brunch menu. By all means, take advantage of this excellent value!

We had been trying to get to Volt for months, but schedule conflicts and the holidays barred us entrance. We finally made it, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant area is super cozy and quiet - made for intimate conversation with the person(s) you are with. The selection of high quality ingredients and food is unparalleled. The beer/wine & spirits list is fantastic. We are wine noobs, so we skipped that and got beer and cocktails. Didn’t disappoint. The food options were hitting every food group, it was so hard to make a decision because every description on the menu made each meal sound delightful. We ordered the pork chop & salmon. Both entrees were simply amazing. The service, and quality of the meals/beverages is where the value of your dollar shows. We will be back.

Volt is beautiful, it is definitely special occasion worthy. We loved our waitress, she was very helpful, especially since we had never had a dining experience like this before! The service was incredible. The only reason why I'm not putting all 5 stars was because the menu was very confusing, I understand the elegance but some things were just downright confusing, I enjoyed my meal, but some items that came out were not what I was imagining!

Did not disappoint! I’ve been wanting to try Volt for a long time and once I made the reservations, I began to worry that it would not live up to my expectations, but it far surpassed them. Everything was incredible. Everything. Can’t wait to go back.

We had the 10 course tasting menu with wine pairing. This was in the main dining room and not the tasting
menu at the chef's table. The food was good, even though some of it was a little unusual. It was fun to try, and some of the dishes were better than others, but for the cost I was expecting something more dazzling. The wines got the most compliments among our group. The service was outstanding and we definitely felt pampered. Each course was explained nicely as well as the rationale behind each wine pairing. Very nicely done. Overall we had very nice evening, spanning about 2 hours, but for a party of 4 the bill (with tip) was a little over $1000. So can't really say Volt is a good value. It's certainly worth a try if you've never been and we wouldn't rule out returning at some point in the future.

Overall we had a great evening at VOLT. The food was overall delicious with a variety of unique combinations and flavors. One warning, the wine pairing was VERY generous and too much for me to properly enjoy the entirety of the meal. Some parts of the meal felt rushed as we got the next wine pairing before completing our current course/glass.

From the cocktails, to the food, to the service, everything was perfect! Few restaurants, in my experience, can pull this off while seeming to do so effortlessly. Some of the dishes were one bite but that bite was packed with flavors. Other larger dishes had flavors, colors and textures beautifully organized. I did not leave hungry! One can go to Volt and spend a little or a lot and it's all fine dinning but very casually executed. Highly recommended!

The level of service and attention to a dietary restriction (allergy) was world class, the staff was knowledgeable and quick to respond to any questions we had. The proteins were a little underwhelming with the stars of the meal being the vegetables and appetizers but the overall tasting menu was delicious and creative.

Volt is the type of establishment often reserved for a special time/event. Therefore, the expectations for such a high-end restaurant are likewise high. The staff brought me new silverware 3 times before I ever received a bite to eat. My companion ordered a sampling menu and was served 3 plates of food will I sat and watched. I ordered 2 entrees and dessert so this made no sense. I never received my second entree.
The food was delicious so NO complaints there. The staff were plentiful, courteous and even "fussy" but seemed to lack common sense.

Worth doing "at least once." This was my third experience at VOLT in about 10 years. Food was mostly really good, and staff was professional and courteous as usual, but a couple of the courses weren't as good as I would have wanted. The service was kinda spotty in how slow the dishes came out. There was a 22 minute gap between our 3rd to last and 2nd to last courses, from the time they took the previous course away from the table. I happened to look at the time because i was concerned about our next engagement. That's too long to wait for a pheasant dish that was on the chef's tasting menu we ordered 90 minutes beforehand. We ended up asking them to box up the next course and bring us dessert instead. Having said that, they were kind and said yes to my pregnant wife's request to substitute one of the desserts, and both choices were excellent as usual.

Great restaurant in quaint little Frderick MD...the food and staff were truly amazing! We were seated in the PDR (unwittingly) and enjoyed a virtually "private" dining experience. The PDR needs a nice bold piece of artwork on the West wall as relief from the staid gray interior (I am a Designer, so these things matter. Expensive, yes, but not insanely so.
Desserts are a must!!

I’ve never enjoyed a meal more, nor felt so good after eating at a restaurant. The flavors of each dish were incredible. I usually don’t feel so good after dining out but I felt great after VOLT! The service was excellent. We wandered in before our reservation, cold from walking around beautiful downtown Frederick, underdressed for fine dining, and it felt like the staff just catered to our every need like genuinely good friends. We appreciated, with surprise, the delectable macarons and dessert (and huge delicious cookies to go!) compliments of the chef. Our experience was perfect in every way. So, we also left with a gift certificate for my parents to experience dining at VOLT.
I’m an architect/artist and drew the Streetscape directly across Market from VOLT years ago. It’s been a popular print in my shop. I’ve admired the mansion that now houses VOLT for years so it was a real treat to be the first seated and right next to the window - looking out at the buildings I know well through drawing them!

Volt is a lovely place, and has matured. It’s service has mellowed, and improved, over the years and has moved out of the “we are doing you a favor by letting you dine here” mode that afflicted the restaurant in its early years. The food is very good, although there are few “stop everything, close your eyes and savor this” moments. I enjoyed a scallop dish, but was surprised it was served cold. The servers are knowledgeable and very willing to expand on the menu details, and I recommend taking the time to ask. The food is beautifully presented. The price is very high, and so I rated it as only “fair” for value because honestly, you could have a delicious meal in town for half the price. The ambiance is quiet, restrained, and conducive to conversation. I prefer less intrusive service (hearing a friend tell me about an ailing relative in hushed tones is not the ideal time to put a plate in front of me and recite ingredients...a great server knows when to serve quietly). Those are minor observations that would move the experience into the truly excellent zone. It is a delightful dining experience, overall.

This was our second time to celebrate at VOLT and it was outstanding - food, service, and overall ambiance. We enjoyed the Chef’s tasting menu including two of the party selecting the beverage pairings- each of which complemented its course very well. The wine steward was excellent and made the evening quite enjoyable!

I am not a foodie but I do value quality over quantity. This was by far one of the best restaurant experiences that I have ever had. From the time we came in until we left we felt well cared for with attentive wait staff taking care of our every need! The food was well presented and delicious! Both my husband and I loved our appetizer of beets served over freeze dried goat cheese. It was inventive and savory. I was asked regarding food preferences and/or allergies. This was handled well with suggestions given. What a wonderful place for a special occasion or to make an occasion special! We will be back.

we had the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Every item was wonderful and beautiful. The wine steward was extremely knowledgeable. I would go back for just the goat cheese ravioli and the salmon and the divine bite of the pumpkin macaron with foie gras which just melts in your mouth.

Had another lovely dinner at Volt. This time we did not do the whole tasting menu, opting for a more normal Sunday meal. They were great preparing things gluten-free for me and I had an out of the world salmon. The desserts were sublime. And I just love that it is impossible to get a bad glass of wine here.

The service was ok until it was time for the check. It took forever to get the chicken and when we did, we had to get up to ask someone to run the cards. The waiter walked by multiple times and didn’t take our payment. The food was not hot and I was sick once I got home until the next morning. Will not go back unfortunately .

We celebrate our 30 anniversary and we decide to have the tasting menu without knowing what was on it. It was a great surprise and we enjoy it at 100%. We definitely will come back to Frederick and to Volt.

It was outstanding. This is the kind of restaurant that you go for both the excellent food and the experience. My girlfriend and I had the brunch tasting menu which was outstanding with a wide variety of flavors. The cocktails were perfect. Highly recommended.

We had an incredible experience at Volt during Saturday evening visit. The food was delicious and no one in my group had any complaints. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list is expansive and the prices reasonable. Food costs are not inexpensive but well worth the price.
We were seated in the room where the kitchen is visible. It somewhat loud in that area. If you’re looking for quiet ask to be seated in another room.
We will definitely return!
