VOLT offers guests a menu of modern American cuisine. “The focus of our cuisine is based on classic flavor combinations, creating sophisticated dishes that emphasize purity and seasonal flavors that are based on fundamental and innovative cooking techniques.” said Voltaggio. VOLT’s relationship with local artisan farmers ensures availability of products to fulfill the philosophy behind the menu, in a refined, historic venue where classic meets modern. By design, the restaurant follows along the original footprint of the mansions first floor parlors. Both the 38 seat main dining room and the bar/lounge open off the foyer. The original mosaic tile in the foyer was the inspiration behind the warm monochromatic color pallet that adorns the finishes in VOLT. Private dining can be hosted in the conservatory offering views of the expansive courtyard. The 700 square foot kitchen afforded space to include up to 20 guests.

VOLT Ratings and Reviews
Over and Above is how I would describe the dining experience at the Chef’s Counter at Volt. it should be a bucket list item, it is that good. We made the drive from northern Virginia on a weekday afternoon in rush hour traffic. But From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we forgot the stressful journey. We were greeted by the maître d' who explained how the evening would progress and confirmed our food allergies. The chefs modified courses to eliminate gluten for me and lactose for my sister. Each course was explained and the wine pairing was impeccable. There was such attention to details. At the Chef’s Counter, you can see the courses being prepared and that adds to the anticipation. The plating was beautiful and artistic for all 16 courses. it made you slow down and look at the detail on the plate before eating. Party in your mouth indeed. There is nothing better than good food, wine and eating with friends and family. Volt enhanced the experience and did not disappoint.
Thank you to the staff, chefs for a wonderful evening. You made my sister’s birthday special.
Frederick is so fortunate to have Chef Voltaggio and Volt Restaurant! Truly world-class food and service; to reach this caliber, restaurant needs both! Very nice wine list with affordable wines and extravagant wines; just tell the wine guy what you are looking for, he's great! Ask to see the kitchen, too. It's a nearly soundless machine cranking out amazing dishes. Servers do things perfectly, more so than most people even realize!
What a great way to end 2017 and start 2018! I will be back!
It was our first time to volt. New Year’s Eve. We had some gift certificates and decided to use them. This restaurant is average at best. It was a tasting menu and out of 12 items that we ate maybe 4 were worth the trip...Ridiculously priced for what we got. I was really hoping I get to write something different here.
I had wanted to dine at VOLT for several years, and chose a holiday weekend to have an overnight in Frederick with my family. We infrequently dine at high end restaurants, and I was eagerly anticipating VOLT, but realized that I am somewhat naive. We had to make a somewhat late -8:30- reservation, and were surprised that half of the tables were empty when we arrived. Another reviewer commented on the same situation during her dining experience, and my family wondered if this was deliberate. There are many many servers, ready to fulfill any request, but they all seemed very formal. We would prefer our servers to be friendly rather than proper but detached. The restaurant was quiet, a positive feature for me, but we almost had to whisper in order for our conversation not to be overheard by the other diners.
The menu was largely composed of unusual ingredients, or unique food combinations, or inventive methods of food preparation. Presentation was five star. However, although we appreciated the creativity, the final products didn't necessarily taste better than more familiar recipes.
All in all, dining at VOLT was a memorable experience, but one that we are unlikely to repeat.
What an extraordinary meal. Volt was on my bucket list for the longest time. It did not disappoint, but rather exceeded expectations in every way.
We went for brunch, will be going back to visit our friends who live in the area and going again for dinner.
The brunch marvelous, every bite of food sheer perfection. The service was second to none.
Bravo, Chef Voltaggio and team!
Volt was perfect from the minute we arrived until we left. What a great dining experience! The ambiance is lovely, the wait staff incredibly poised, unobtrusive and knowledgeable. The food was delicious and the presentation was thoughtful. There were several "extras"--the amuse bouche, the after-dinner candies, and the chocolate chip cookie for the ride home! Very thoughtful. We will be back. Loved, loved, loved the whole experience! Thank you.
We have wanted to dine here for years and only just made it. From the amazing amuse bouche, through the 3 course menu and finishing with a complimentary plate of bite-size sweets and two fist sized cookies wrapped to go, the food was inventive, delicious and at times divine. All was presented with panache and served with ballet like precision. Not only did the experience live up to the hype, it exceeded it. We will return.
Fifth or sixth time eating at Volt. Unfortunately, we are seeing a decline in almost every aspect. Waitstaff quite pretentious and inattentive. Took more than 20 minutes to get a cocktail after ordering one. Long wait between courses on a night with a lot of empty tables. Was seated next to where the utensils are gathered, so constantly noisy with waitstaff talking to each other over our two-person conversation. Some courses were excellent, some very mediocre. Portion sizes small, so we left still a bit hungry. Frankly, not worth the cost any longer. Will continue to frequent Voltaggio Brother's restaurant in the MGM National Harbor (which is excellent), but not Volt. Most disappointing was that Brian in the kitchen the night we were there, so we were expecting the best. At least they brought all of our courses this time. The last time we were there, they completely forgot our second courses and didn't seem to care about their error. Not sure why we even returned. Probably won't anytime soon.
Tuna Tartare Appetizer was good as were the shortribs and sweetbreads. The ravioli was cold and stuffed with a flavorless substance. Scallops were full of sand and along with the quinoa were heavily salted. The halibut was also very salty and had absolutely no flavor. Breads are good. It was not a great experience. Big plates, small portions and high prices. Wine list had very few reasonably priced wines and lots of very expensive wines. Very good service. First time here with high hopes that were dashed.
I was slightly underwhelmed by my experience. The service was not what I would expect of a restaurant with Volt's reputation. The service was marginal . . . couldn't clear the table in a timely manner or pour the wine. The food was good, but my short ribs course was mostly fat and unremarkable. If you are looking for a filling meal, this might not be a good choice. They did not live up to the hype and it was no bargain.
This was our second trek to Volt for Sunday brunch. The food is creative and innovative, the dishes are presented in an attractive manner, and the service is practically impeccable. On the drive out to Frederick from Capitol Hill I grumble about how many good restaurants we pass along the way, but once seated and eating I am happy we made the trip!
We’ve been to VOLT several times in the past, but haven’t been for a few years. It wasn’t the same exceptional food that we had remembered in the past. While some courses were really great (Beet salad, ravioli, tuna tartare, coconut dessert), we were disappointed by others (scallops, chocolate dessert, cookies). We’d give it another try sometime, hoping again for the old VOLT we loved.
Amazing cuisine made this special birthday treat an unforgettable experience. Seated right at the Chef's Counter (Table 21), our taste buds reveled in 15 tasting courses, an excellent bottle of Israeli wine, coffee and an ample bonus birthday dessert, plus take-home boxes of 4 mini-desserts and copy of each of our menus (differing due to food restrictions). Thank goodness for the restrained portion sizes, as I needed a brief walkabout at course #11 to manage the richness and quantity of food. My husband was likewise grateful that the formerly 21 courses have been downsized to 15 ! Beyond satiated.
The sequence of courses was spot-on, evolving from 3 mini-appetizers to 3 seafood dishes interspersed with 4 salad/veggie/starch creations to 2 red meat dishes to 3 desserts. Each menu item juxtaposed flavors and ingredients in extraordinary ways. Highlights were the salmon, mussels and rockfish courses, plus the faux-coconut dessert with coconut "sand." You must refer to the website for menu details -- not enough space or adjectives to do it justice here.
Service was impeccable, restrained and happily grew a bit more informal as our 2 & a half hours at table proceeded. The pacing was perfect. Watching the chefs at work was fascinating, their calm professionalism amazing. As it was a mid-week night without Chef Voltaggio present, only 1 other couple shared the Chef's Counter, and only 2 other parties sat elsewhere in the Chef's Dining Room, making the experience even more intimate and relaxing. This was a full evening's entertainment, between observing the kitchen and savoring every morsel.
Definitely worth the tab for a special occasion. We're already talking up reprising this experience next year. Hard to believe this gem is a mere 15-minute walk from home ! Frederick is lucky indeed.
The food here was amazing from beginning to end! My sister and I went for the 3 course meal. Every course, i was just blown away by the flavors and textures of everything on the plate. We got different things on the menu and everything was just on point. The presentation of the food was impeccable. I was there for my sister's birthday and they brought out a separate dessert, which doesn't happen too many times nowadays. They really take care of you food-wise. They start you off with an amuse-bouche (which was delicious) and end the meal with an assortment of tiny desserts. They even sent you home with a cookie (which was amazing)!
The service was also good. They really did not push the process, but checked up on you often enough for my comfort level.
Volt is our favorite restaurant in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. The building and dining room are warm and inviting. The staff is well trained and unpretentious. The cuisine is a cut above the rest. We most enjoy the tasting menus with wine pairings.
On this visit, the fried grain first course, oats in mushroonm broth with poached egg, and candied pork shank were the highlights. The chocolate dessert with coffee topped off another special meal in Frederick.
Some of the other guests around where very loud and obnoxious talking about what service they expect and how much they like to tip if that service is up to par. It made it very uncomfortable environment and I felt bad for the staff who had no choice but to listen and act engaged.
Had a reservation at Volt to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was a wonderful evening. The food was delicious with many choices, service excellent, atmosphere inviting, and even a special birthday dessert. The gift of cookies as we left was a nice touch. We will be back.
Everything was perfect to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Each dish was presented with a brief explanation of the contents and preparation.
Flavors and textures were complex and delicious. We chose glasses of red and white wine, which were excellent and very reasonably priced.
This is the perfect place for a fun dinning experience and to celebrate a special event in a relaxed, elegant atmosphere.
We have been coming to Volt since it opened. While the food remains very good, this last
visit left us wondering why we were there. Service while pleasant enough wasn't up to snuff.
My husband asked for another roll. He was assured very nicely that it would be a pleasure to
get him some bread. He's still waiting!
I ordered a glass of wine. Now this is where it becomes absolutely ridiculous. What you call a
glass of wine would be considered a half glass or even a taste in most places. And, your prices for a "glass" don't come cheap. My glass sat empty in front of me for about 15 minutes. My husband's drink also. Finally someone wondered over to ask if we wanted another. We declined.
Service was just not what we remember. Also, the dining room is in desperate need of a makeover. It's needs to be livened up. Awful paint color, etc.
We might come back in a year or so. Can't say I would recommend but, I wouldn't discourage anyone from dining there.
Let them decide.
This place has never disappointed me! The Brunch after Thanksgiving was perfect and a great reason to get out of the house after cooking all day yesterday. Highlights for me were the Sweet Potatoes and the Salmon Toast. For my 30 year old son, it was the waffle. Brunch was a fabulous value, too!
