VOLT offers guests a menu of modern American cuisine. “The focus of our cuisine is based on classic flavor combinations, creating sophisticated dishes that emphasize purity and seasonal flavors that are based on fundamental and innovative cooking techniques.” said Voltaggio. VOLT’s relationship with local artisan farmers ensures availability of products to fulfill the philosophy behind the menu, in a refined, historic venue where classic meets modern. By design, the restaurant follows along the original footprint of the mansions first floor parlors. Both the 38 seat main dining room and the bar/lounge open off the foyer. The original mosaic tile in the foyer was the inspiration behind the warm monochromatic color pallet that adorns the finishes in VOLT. Private dining can be hosted in the conservatory offering views of the expansive courtyard. The 700 square foot kitchen afforded space to include up to 20 guests.

VOLT Ratings and Reviews
Amazing cuisine made this special birthday treat an unforgettable experience. Seated right at the Chef's Counter (Table 21), our taste buds reveled in 15 tasting courses, an excellent bottle of Israeli wine, coffee and an ample bonus birthday dessert, plus take-home boxes of 4 mini-desserts and copy of each of our menus (differing due to food restrictions). Thank goodness for the restrained portion sizes, as I needed a brief walkabout at course #11 to manage the richness and quantity of food. My husband was likewise grateful that the formerly 21 courses have been downsized to 15 ! Beyond satiated.
The sequence of courses was spot-on, evolving from 3 mini-appetizers to 3 seafood dishes interspersed with 4 salad/veggie/starch creations to 2 red meat dishes to 3 desserts. Each menu item juxtaposed flavors and ingredients in extraordinary ways. Highlights were the salmon, mussels and rockfish courses, plus the faux-coconut dessert with coconut "sand." You must refer to the website for menu details -- not enough space or adjectives to do it justice here.
Service was impeccable, restrained and happily grew a bit more informal as our 2 & a half hours at table proceeded. The pacing was perfect. Watching the chefs at work was fascinating, their calm professionalism amazing. As it was a mid-week night without Chef Voltaggio present, only 1 other couple shared the Chef's Counter, and only 2 other parties sat elsewhere in the Chef's Dining Room, making the experience even more intimate and relaxing. This was a full evening's entertainment, between observing the kitchen and savoring every morsel.
Definitely worth the tab for a special occasion. We're already talking up reprising this experience next year. Hard to believe this gem is a mere 15-minute walk from home ! Frederick is lucky indeed.
The food here was amazing from beginning to end! My sister and I went for the 3 course meal. Every course, i was just blown away by the flavors and textures of everything on the plate. We got different things on the menu and everything was just on point. The presentation of the food was impeccable. I was there for my sister's birthday and they brought out a separate dessert, which doesn't happen too many times nowadays. They really take care of you food-wise. They start you off with an amuse-bouche (which was delicious) and end the meal with an assortment of tiny desserts. They even sent you home with a cookie (which was amazing)!
The service was also good. They really did not push the process, but checked up on you often enough for my comfort level.
Volt is our favorite restaurant in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. The building and dining room are warm and inviting. The staff is well trained and unpretentious. The cuisine is a cut above the rest. We most enjoy the tasting menus with wine pairings.
On this visit, the fried grain first course, oats in mushroonm broth with poached egg, and candied pork shank were the highlights. The chocolate dessert with coffee topped off another special meal in Frederick.
Some of the other guests around where very loud and obnoxious talking about what service they expect and how much they like to tip if that service is up to par. It made it very uncomfortable environment and I felt bad for the staff who had no choice but to listen and act engaged.
Had a reservation at Volt to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was a wonderful evening. The food was delicious with many choices, service excellent, atmosphere inviting, and even a special birthday dessert. The gift of cookies as we left was a nice touch. We will be back.
Everything was perfect to celebrate my wife’s birthday. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Each dish was presented with a brief explanation of the contents and preparation.
Flavors and textures were complex and delicious. We chose glasses of red and white wine, which were excellent and very reasonably priced.
This is the perfect place for a fun dinning experience and to celebrate a special event in a relaxed, elegant atmosphere.
We have been coming to Volt since it opened. While the food remains very good, this last
visit left us wondering why we were there. Service while pleasant enough wasn't up to snuff.
My husband asked for another roll. He was assured very nicely that it would be a pleasure to
get him some bread. He's still waiting!
I ordered a glass of wine. Now this is where it becomes absolutely ridiculous. What you call a
glass of wine would be considered a half glass or even a taste in most places. And, your prices for a "glass" don't come cheap. My glass sat empty in front of me for about 15 minutes. My husband's drink also. Finally someone wondered over to ask if we wanted another. We declined.
Service was just not what we remember. Also, the dining room is in desperate need of a makeover. It's needs to be livened up. Awful paint color, etc.
We might come back in a year or so. Can't say I would recommend but, I wouldn't discourage anyone from dining there.
Let them decide.
This place has never disappointed me! The Brunch after Thanksgiving was perfect and a great reason to get out of the house after cooking all day yesterday. Highlights for me were the Sweet Potatoes and the Salmon Toast. For my 30 year old son, it was the waffle. Brunch was a fabulous value, too!
This is my second time here, it was a double date night where my husband and I and my brother-in-law and his wife were celebrating anniversaries (Different years but a few weeks apart). The service was really good and the waiters seemed very knowledgeable about the food and wine. We had a very enjoyable evening. The food was for the most part very good but they did leave out a tasting from both the orders of the chef‘s tasting menu. This was later remedied and reflected on the bill as credit towards that Tasting, But for the amount of money we put down I think they could’ve done that and offered something in its place. We also had substituted one of the tastings (the pork shank) for another main course (short rib) as we do not eat pork. I took one meaty bite, it was only a small bite however the rest was absolutely fatty with hardly any shreds of meat. Perhaps I should’ve said something at the time but I had assume sending back a fairly untouched plate would make the wager question why it was untouched. Especially since that’s the substitute we made.
Overall we had a very enjoyable time and would recommend this restaurant for special occasions and Romantic dates.
Some of the food was very good (e.g., sweetbreads), some (e.g., "grains" with burrata and apple were) nondescript. Service was similarly somewhat uneven -- by turns attentive (good job, bread man!) and then neglectful (water glasses left empty during the meal). Options for wines by the glass were limited and the wines we had only mediocre. Dessert was tasty and we loved the chocolates, etc. at the end. Sending us home with a cookie was a nice touch, but the cookie itself was only eh , putting something of a down note at the end of the experience. No major downsides, but as a flagship restaurant, we would have hoped for a higher level of consistent quality and taste.
The 10-course tasting menu and drink pairings was on-point and divine! Every dish was better than the last and it made for a very memorable birthday dinner for my me and my wife. Volt is a gem in Frederick and should not be overlooked because of the price compared to other establishments, it's well worth the price of admission.
All of the dishes are artfully presented. However, the portions are not large. My biggest complaint is that the menu is extremely limited. If you don't eat certain things, whether because of allergies or preference, there is not much to choose from. Dessert was too creative. Dessert should be luxurious and plentiful...I don't want to have to analyze my dessert before taking a bite.
The service was fantastic although it did feel like there were too many servers hovering. The sourdough bread was delicious. Sending us off with cookies and treats is a nice touch, but I would have preferred a better meal.
Wife and I were in Frederick, MD on an errand one Sunday, and on a whim check Open Table to see if Volt had a table for brunch. We had heard a lot about the restaurant but never had a chance to try it out. When we saw that a reservation was available we grabbed it. It was a great decision. We were warmly greeted at the door and the menu was explained to us even before we were taken to our table. We were seated promptly. The hostess and all the wait staff were friendly, engaging and helpful. We ate from the brunch menu rather than the tasting menu. Every thing we had ... beet salad, salmon toast, malted french toast, soft scrambled eggs, a side of donuts (!) and an apple coffee cake for dessert ... was beautifully presented, delicious and served in a timely way. Even coffee ... served in a French press ... was outstanding. The price fixe brunch at Volt is not inexpensive, but is worth the cost because of the fine food and the lovely atmosphere. As we enjoyed our meal, we started enumerating all our friends who we thought would enjoy the brunch at Volt. I think we made the list so we would have an excuse to return. I am sure we will.
We went to Volt for our anniversary and were delighted with the tasting menu. The wait between each course was close to unbearable towards the end of the meal though. We are glad we went but with a $400 check, it is a one time occasion. The $45 pre-fixe seems like a great value with a much faster turn around time of course
Two teachers celebrating a year anniversary- so its not like money is of no consequence, but oh so worth it to indulge in such decadence for one night! We chose the chef's choice and the wine pairing, and we were off on a unprecedented journey. The exotic flavors such as lemon caviar with dill or madeline cookie with hot sauce expanded the way we conceptualize food pairings, and the chef's choice of wine only elevated the experience. It was truly amazing! I would recommend trying this restaurant at least once, and I am certain there will be a desire to return. We are thinking of returning for our next anniversary.
My wife’s dishes were delicious and so was the dessert. My grains salad/ hors d’erves (sp?) were way salty and my short ribs entree was 25% fat, which I could have lived with had there been more than just two ribs. Good bread and cocktails though the wine pours were a bit light. Candy at the end of the night was a nice touch.
With our fifth visit this restaurant continues to fire on all cylinders year after year. The consistency of execution on all fronts: creativity of dishes, taste, service, value for money, and wine program make this one of America's top restaurants. It can certainly compete, too, with the finest restaurants worldwide. The attitude of the staff is always relaxed and free of any stuffiness. This visit was for a special wedding anniversary, and because of the wonderful experience it was an evening that will be long appreciated. Absolutely a true gem and worth a special trip.
Well worth the wait. It's just a joy when the whole evening is filled w/ great cocktails (The Flying Carpet!!!) and amazing food!
We opted for ordering our own courses and not doing the tasting menu. Good thing 4 courses was more than plenty.
We will be back for special occasions!
To costly for the portion size we had the chef taste menu of 10. I understand taste but portion size terribly petite. All items had a sweet taste which was different my wife comment was dessert less sweet of all items. Only place I have eaten and left hungry.
We celebrated our anniversary by sharing an afternoon tasting menu at Volt. The autumn drive set the stage. The autumnal food was even better. The highlights among the 5 delicious courses were the brined salmon, oats and poached egg with basil and fried mushrooms and the caramel popcorn ice-cream and chocolate mousse cake dessert.
We finally made it to Volt. We're foodies and fans of Top Chef; however we don't live closeby. We found ourselves at Tysons Corner for the weekend and ran up to Frederick for lunch. What a treat. They are near some great farming areas both in MD and PA and it showed in the flavors of the food. We did the Chef's tasting menu - so creative yet homey and familiar too. Tom Collechio was in my head when we ate our courses. The staff couldn't have been nicer too. Frederick is an adorable time - make the effort, do the trip and enjoy whatever the staff comes up with.
This is a one-time experience. Would never go back or make it a repeat. Way too overpriced to the point of being obnoxious. Service was good atmosphere was good. This is not the kind of food you eat more than once. It's a one hit wonder that I would never want to pay for it again.
