Although I enjoy gourmet food, the food at Volt was weird more than appetizing. It was okay, but I won't be going back anytime soon, especially spending $350 for a couple to dine.
Loved the starter and middle plates. Creative and robust taste. The main and desserts (chicken and Black Forest) were disappointing both on taste and minimalist size. Overall liked the meal but surprised it didn’t keep it up throughout
The server was very nice and knowledgeable but there were four mistakes throughout the meal (appetizer came after middle course, cocktails messed up, timing between courses / drinks was off, wrong items on Bill) that was disappointing
Terrible; they forgot part of our meal and our server was awful.
The quality of service, food and ambience at Volt is unmatched (maybe Charleston in Baltimore?). While not stuffy at all, the staff treats you like royalty, they are so well trained and on point. The decor is modern and laid back, but very clean and fancy in its own way. We did the chef's tasting menu ($125) which was nine amazing courses plus cookies to take home! The standouts were short rib and the chocolate dessert, but really all nine were spectacular. A taste of everything, presented in a beautiful, delicious way- salmon mousse, creme fraiche with caviar, cod (a little dry), pheasant (a little salty), goat cheese ravioli, raw scallops, the fabulous short ribs and the most amazing desert ever. If you tell them what you are celebrating (pretty much everyone in there is celebrating something!) they bring you a lemon chiffon out of this world dessert with a candle. It was merengue perfection! They are pretty large portions for a tasting menu, making the price tag totally worth it. Oh, almost forgot the bread! They offer scallion and gruyere scones, poppy seed popovers and sourdough rolls with compound butter- get them all, they are amazing. Wine list is reasonable & the martinis and old fashioneds above par. It was wonderful!
The reception desk was alittle cool and uninviting. The waiter was excellent and knowledgable. The food for the table came out cool or lukewarm.....and why not fill the soup bowl at least 1/2 full - three spoonfuls at most was what we got. To their credit the staff took off the cost of our entrees. We in turn left a sizable gratuity since it wasn't the waiter's fault.
Service was incredibly slow despite more than half of the tables being empty as it was towards the end of Saturday lunch. Took 10 minutes before waiter visited the table for the first time with drink menus and another 15 minutes before the waiter returned with brunch menus. Another 5 minutes for drinks and breadsticks. We had the wine list but no clue as to what was on the menu or even if there was a menu, so we could not determine what wine to order to match the flavor profile. The food was delicious and very well presented. But portions were incredibly small, almost tapas or appetizer size. We actually left lunch hungry despite having three courses each a la carte. Also the waiter struggled to accommodate food allergies. We were excited, anticipating an amazing dining experience. We were clearly disappointed as this was a special trip of several hours to finally dine at Volt.
The food was great. However the weak link was the service. You can tell the staff was trained, but you can also tell they don't really care about real service. The hostess was very indifferent about her job and wouldn't make eye contact or smile. There was only one main waiter taking care of as many as 12 tables at a time. There were at least 3 auxiliary waitstaff and a Maitre d. but each of them only stuck to their one job. One filling the water glasses, one running the meals, and one replenishing the rolls, and the Maitre d greeting people. But they didn't help the main waiter at all. It led to a LOT of waiting for service. We had an $80 bottle of white wine, that they kept in an ice bucket away from the table, but because of the lack of attention our wine glasses were frequently empty for long periods at a time. The Volt Burger was amazing!!!
I'm glad I went, but I don't think I would travel all the way up to Frederick again to go there.
Really enjoy this restaurant for a special occasions. Very expensive but it is a unique experience. Service as always is impeccable. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I’ve been here before and this time the food was lacking texture. Wine pour seemed scant and since I would not come here with a big group due to cost, it would be nice to have more selection of wine by the glass. Their wine selection by the bottle is amazing. Cookies at the end does not live up to the level of the restaurant.
Fabulous! Tried the beets, squid ink pasta, filet, fish and chocolate mousse. Absolutely delicious!
What a fabulous way to celebrate my daughter's birthday!
While the service was (for the most part) excellent, the food was very disappointing. We ordered 2 starters: a fluke dish and a beet dish. We both found the fluke dish to be pretty dreadful; the flavors just didn’t work well together. We enjoyed the flavor combination of the beet dish. Next we shared the medium ravioli dish. It was fine but not dissimilar from what I make at home. We shared 3 entrees. The trumpet mushroom ragu was so tiny that it should have been a starter or medium dish at most. The mushrooms tasted good but they were immersed in a brown compound that tasted pretty much like Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup before you add the requisite can of water. I couldn’t eat it. The salmon entree was disappointing. I’ve eaten a lot of salmon since I’m from Seattle and Volt’s salmon entree would be considered a joke in the Pacific Northwest. The 3rd entree we shared was a halibut dish. It was okay. My husband and I agreed that we much prefer the halibut entree at The Wine Kitchen in Leesburg. At the beginning of our meal we were given 2 canapés that contained foie gras. I told the server that I don’t eat foie gras because of the cruelty to ducks and geese involved in making it. He said “okay,” and took the canapés away. He returned with 2 canapés that looked identical and said “Miss, Your canapé now contains no foie gras.” So, I ate it and liked it. My husband cut his open and found that his still contained foie gras. We thought it odd that the server only replaced mine and never asked my husband whether he would also like his replaced. Come on Volt! A lot of folks don’t eat it because it involves animal cruelty. If you’re still going to be antiquated and serve it, at least train your servers how to best deal with customers who might not want it. Lastly, the women’s bathroom was dirty. The stall needed to be repainted. From the women’s restroom one can see the backs and back legs of men using a urinal. I found it unappetizing.
My husband and I went here for dinner. The ambience was pleasant, but the food was horribly overpriced for what you received. My husband ordered a drink that came out completely incorrect. No one ever checked in throughout the meal to see how things were going. Good food, but missing that wow factor that would keep you coming back for more.
Each dish was delicious! Our server was outstanding! He was very knowledgeable about food, and he made excellent suggestions for us.
Service was outstanding - they really take care of you and help you with figuring out the meals. Food was interesting and I liked the innovative visual display and concepts. When it comes down to it flavor execution left me desiring more as no dish really put everything together. Everything was ok and for the price ok is not good enough
Food and wine were incredible. We had a private room for five and chose the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. We were sat 40 minutes late so that is probably why we were given the private room but we enjoyed the experience nonetheless. The server was knowledgable although not terribly engaging which was perfect for our group. The somolier, on the other hand, was attrocious. He forgot to pour one of us on two occasions, wasn't terribly knowledgable about the wines except to say that they had "minerality" and he was incredibly chatty to the point where we were all just waiting for him to leave after each visit.
A wonderful restaurant—terrific food, service, and setting.
Maybe it's just what I picked... but I only enjoyed the starter and desert. The entree needed more substance and certainly was not worth the price. We like trying out fine dining and were excited to visit Volt for the first time. The service was great but our choices were not as ostentatious as the price portrays.
Again, Volt did not disappoint! The food, both flavor and presentation, was not simply good, it was outstanding. Service was polished and professional but not stuffy or formal. I love this restaurant and the people who make it so memorable!
There are some dining experiences that don’t live up to expectations or hype or the expense
VOLT is NOT one of those experiences. The tasting menu was exceptional- delightful and well executed through every stage. The service was also tip top throughout the dining experience. It was absolutely positively worth it. If you’re in Frederick you should absolutely go.
Fabulous evening. Outstanding hospitality and attention to detail. The owner was sooooo gracious with the guest in taking photos with his adoring fans, one being my wife for her birthday. Just a perfect adventure!!!
My wife and I dined here recently for the third time and we each had the Chef's Tasting menu with additional wine pairing. The food, drinks, service, and ambiance were all perfect! It is definitely an experience everyone should try at least once.
Superb restaurant. The food was exceptional. Very fancy. Never had calamari prepared like that and it was so good. Our entries The wine was terrific too. They gave us free macaroons of some sort that were amazing. They gave us free cookies too that were wonderful. Highly recommend. I wish they played music. The only thing missing was a fun atmosphere. The service was exceptional.
We enjoyed a wonderful and relaxing Sunday brunch sitting right by the window. Could not have been more enjoyable.
Did tasting menu and were not disappointed. Indeed, the last 2 courses were almost too generous to finish give all that had come before. I tried some things I never felt comfortable ordering before and was thrilled with approach to some familiar ingredients like salmon & duck. A winner!
Excellent 10 course tasting menu. Knowledgeable wait staff and nice atmosphere. The only drawback was there is no valet or private parking.
In both service and food offerings, it was simply wonderful.
We were looking forward to dining at Volt and it was exceptional in every way. The service was impeccable throughout the meal. The staff was friendly and helpful. The specialty cocktails were delicious. We selected the corn chowder, tuna tartare, shared the calamari bolognese, the cod and pork chop. All were delicious and beautifully presented. The desserts selected were the black forrest and the egg in the nest. They were works of art in their presentation.
We were in Frederick for a reunion and traveled a day early from Philadelphia just to fine at Volt. I wish it was in Philly!
Lovely. The food was amazing. Staff were good. The vibe of the resteraunt was easy and welcoming.
Loved it. And we have been dying to try it
Ordered cod from menu provided. Informed by wait staff some minutes later that item unavailable since menu I ordered from was from the day before. Wait staff was not entirely familiar with the menu and made a few trips to kitchen to clarify. Dining room temperature was cool and my wife was chilled. Dining room was dark even though it was a bright sunny day outside. Shades were pulled down inside the dining room. Food was tasty and presentation was excellent. Lack of attention to some of the details prevents this from being a five star rating. No regrets with giving this place a try.
Very Good meal, but menu is becoming very limited. I don't consider it a good candidate for weekend brunch anymore. Entrees are mostly dinner fare and my penne dish was bland. Appetizers are wonderful. Staff is wonderful. ( I'm from DC area - sometimes OpenTable lists me as from NY, which is incorrect)
We thoroughly enjoyed the Chef’s tasting menu and each of the servers was extremely courteous and interested in how much we enjoyed each course. The noise level was high, but the ambiance was enjoyable and the bar was fun.
Volt offers a tasting menu with wine pairing that was fantastic! We didn’t look at the menu and just ordered the tasting without knowing what they might bring.
Our servers were fun and we tried new wine that we loved! We highly recommend!
Just an awesome evening at Volt!
The service was seemless, which is something that I do not say often..
The staff was equally great and our birthday evening all the more special
We enjoyed the interesting food combinations on the tasting menu.
Since my wife and I relocated to Maryland for work, we missed the high quality food and restaurants of the north east. VOLT reminded us of what we have been missing for quite sometime. The food, staff and overall dining experience was outstanding. Maryland should look at VOLT and us it as a representation of what fine dining should be. We are planning to visit more often and bring our friends.
Food was amazing. Drinks were amazing. Connor, our bartender was amazing. We’ve been raving about our experience all week to everyone that will listen.
A must visit to Volt. The food is exquisite and service impeccable.
Amazing dining experience
The best meal my husband and I have ever had. Better, even, than Alinea. We hope to return to Table 21 in the future.
