We came all the way from Washington DC to give Volt a try for Fathers Day dinner. It was well worth the value and we were taken excellent care of. Everything we had was remarkable but the standout dish that I had was the carrot appetizer. It was in a league of its own!
What a great experience to do the 15 course Chef's Counter with Wine pairing! Sat at the counter, in the kitchen, in the middle of all the action! The food was all wonderful!
We paid $265 for two of us to have the tasting menu. The serving started at 6pm and took almost 3 hours for the 10 courses . We were served the wrong course three times and I saw the wrong food delivered to others four more.... We were never asked at the end "how was everything " because the poor girl saw three plates go back half eaten and the poor delivery....(she knew the answer so why ask. ) I respectuflly offered my opinion of tough meat (Squab and Steak), dull knives and poor delivery of the food....after that ...our candy (offered with the check)...we asked for a bag....the bag was left at the host stand....to avoid any more contact I am sure.
Great place for special occasions. Definitely pricey, but if you know what you're getting into then you won't have sticker shock. Food was delicious and while the restaurant is upscale, the staff is very friendly and it doesn't feel like a "stuffy" or ritzy environment.
Decided to sit at the bar for the tasting menu with wine paring. Great friendly service and fantastic food, and super job with the paring. Worth a visit!
We had a fabulous dinner with a very creative menu. Wonderful service, fun Anniversary!
My wife and I had a great dinner at Volt. The only suggestion would be to provide a better cut of steak for the tasing menu. It was a NY Strip, which was pretty chewy. I love filet mignon and it would have been a perfect compliment to the tasty sauces included. Other than that, we loved it.
Absolutely amazing, as always! I’m sure a lot of people think you are left feeling hungry. Not at all! Portions are small, but somehow you leave satisfied. Food is top notch. The ambiance is stellar. And they pay attention to what you put on the reservation. It was my birthday and they surprised me with a birthday “cake”. Outstanding!!!
Just a nice brunch break!!! Lively food. Service was adequate.
Although the setting is very nice, the food leaves a lot to be desired. Portions are very small especially for the prices. The halibut was VERY salty as agreed upon by my wife and I. The appetizer of ravioli was small and unexceptional. I think trying to be too fancy with the sauces and it's not working.
Really enjoyed the ambiance and service. Main course was delicious. Dessert, starter, and portion size wasn’t great for the price of the meal.
This is going to be a good review, but with a word of concern in it too. While we enjoyed our visit for Sunday brunch, we didn't quite find the food or the service to be up to the par of our last visit. So, I don't know if our last visit was exceptionally great, or if the not-as-great service this time means things are slipping. This trip, the experience simply didn't deserve the superlatives that I would usually layer on a trip to Volt.
Appetizers were well received, including the beets, the salmon toast, and the tuna tartare. The standout among the three was the salmon, surprisingly. Cocktails were well received, but the sparkling wine we ordered was not chilled (credit due -- the server told us this, but suggested she put in on ice). A few minutes in the ice bath wasn't a sufficient chilling. We should have been pointed to another wine selection.
For entrees, one of us ordered the french toast that was sweet enough to serve as dessert. The pork belly on the plate was tasty and fat was necessary to cut the sweetness. The waffle with hollandaise was good, but nothing stood out on the plate. The same could be said for the omelets, which were well made and adequately warm and savory, but there was neither a standout flavor nor any kind of complementary texture on the plate, so the omelets' only reportable characteristics were that they were warm and soft.
Service as very good as one should expect, but there didn't seem to be the crispness to the service we noted last time. Staff -- particularly the junior staff -- seemed to be doing their job, not serving the customers. There's a difference one comes to expect at fine dining establishments.
So...we had good food, good service, and a good overall experience. But this trip, the Volt had no spark. Hopefully it will be back next time.
This is my 4th visit and each has been wonderful. Yesterday's brought a comfortable setting, attentive but not overbearing service, and creative, interesting food presented well. It was a special occasion (birthday) and the staff nicely acknowledged it. Thanks for everything!
Sometimes the smallest bites are the best as was the case with the White Cheddar bite! A glass of Champagne with this should be mandatory!
Everything else, scallop, mussels, ravioli, octopus, squab, New York Strip was excellent from how they looked on the plate to how they tasted on the palate. And the chocolate dessert was amazing.
I highly recommend the beverage pairing! The wine guy (or beverage director) did a wonderful job so that the food and beverages (mostly wine) complemented each other seamlessly! We will be back!
This is our third time eating at Volt and it gets better each visit. The attention to every detail (food, service, creative dining)makes for an amazing meal. Highly recommend dining here!
Incredible service and fabulous food. The Yellowfin Tuna Tartare was exceptional--possibly one of the best things I've ever tasted in my life. Beautiful building--loved the large arched window with the view to the street.
Food was outstanding, as was service. This was the second year to go to Volt for our anniversary. We will be back next year!!!
My husband and enjoyed a delicious brunch at Volt. There were many menu choices and the service was excellent. We have never been disappointed at Volt and we will return soon.
My wife and I had heard great reviews beforehand and went in with high expectations. Those expectations were met and even exceeded. Fantastic menu with unique options, great cocktails and a knowledgeable wait staff.
The meal was expertly crafted from start to finish with perfect portions. Looking forward to trying The Chef’s Table on our next visit.
We came here for our anniversary and were not disappointed. We were there for brunch, and greatly enjoyed every dish. It's clear that a lot of thought and care went into every element and every dish, all the way down to the cream cheese/creme fraiche on the salmon toast. Service was fantastic as well; everyone was pleasant and we were wished a happy anniversary, but not in a way that felt canned or forced. We will be back to try dinner.
It was our first time to Volt and we will be back again...and again. The tasting menu was beyond our expectations. My husband and I both didn't like one dish each, but luckily the other loved it so it was consumed with passion. It's not that the dish was not tasty, inviting and prepared beautifully, it was just our personal taste preference. That is bound to happen with any tasting menu, especially 10 courses. And let me not leave with saying something fabulous about the mixologist...not a bartender, a mixologist. He/She deserves the title. Love.
Relaxed fine dining. Food was, as expected, extraordinary. Good selection of wines by the glass. We had the three course prix fixe menu for 45 USD which offers great value.
Several friends told us Volt would be good. In fact, it was better than good! We drove in rush hour traffic for longer than forever to get to Frederick, and were in a surly mood when we finally arrived. Then came Volt. The food was beautifully presented and made with style. Where else could I choose trumpet mushrooms for my main course? My wife chose four items that were not on the tasting menu, and especially loved the octopus. The decor was lovely, an historic older building. The waiters explained the food before it was eaten. The wine list was heavily European, but was plentiful. (I had a three-bourbon tasting flight.). The wine steward cheerfully engaged in conversation about the wine offerings. A special, decorative dessert arrived for my birthday. Long drive? What long drive? We are going there again!
Amazing. Everything we had hoped. Had the chefs tasting menu and it was incredible. Service was impeccable. Everything we ate, I could never in a million years make myself and we will be back.
The restaurant/architecture itself is beautiful. The service is probably the best I have ever had at a restaurant. Being able to order from the bar in the waiting area while your table is being prepared was extraordinary. Lots of food bonuses like choice of bread, amouse bouche, small desserts, and cookies to take home. The cocktails were wonderful. Everything we ordered came with a polite explanation. Decor was modern and classy. I'll be back !
Michelin stars in Frederick....
A meal this special and artfully prepared, made with locality sources ingredients is something you must treat yourself took at least once a year! Chef Voltaggio is phenomenal!!!
We came for brunch. Wonderful service and the food was amazing!
It took a friend of mine from afar to interest me in trying this restaurant. She saw the celebrity chef Voltaggio on the Today Show and said to me, "the next time I come to Frederick, I want to go to the Volt restaurant." I always thought it was out of my league, but out of curiosity, I checked the menu to find out that on weekdays there's a special for a 3 course meal, and a brunch on weekends for more affordable than I expected. This is possible for us to celebrate a special occasion, being my husband's birthday and mother's day a few days ahead. We just combined the two and made reservations for Volt.
40th birthday and sat at Table 21 (chefs table) for the 21 course experience and it was the finest dining experience I have ever had.
Chef’s Tasting Menu is worth every penny!!! I highly recommend it while on a date or with a larger group. Each course brings up some fun and interesting conversation.
We did the chef’s counter for our anniversary. Wonderful experience!
VOLT is our absolute favorite special occasion restaurant in the DMV area. This was our 4th time dining there and the service and food are consistently wonderful. The waitstaff have great personalities, make perfect suggestions, and are fun as well as professional. The food and drinks are amazing. I really appreciate that our teens are always able to order mocktails that taste as good as the cocktails. The one suggestion I will make is to request a booth because this was the only time I have ever had a table in the middle of one of their rooms. This makes it just a touch more difficult for us to hear everyone at the table, but that would be the case in any restaurant. We will certainly be back!
We had high expectations for the tasting menu and wine pairing. I was shocked by how much those expectations were surpassed. Easily the best meal I've ever had, and probably 3 of the best 5 bites I've ever had.
Fantastic service as always, and a seasonal menu that's always interesting. This time I stuck with the seafood selections in each course, and all were superb. Wine recommendations and flexibility were outstanding as well.
Fantastic service and ambiance. We've been before for a previous anniversary and this one was just as special. the food is mind blowing and the staff phenomenal. Fantastic place.
We went for our 10th anniversary and it was amazing! I highly recommend going on the days they have the three course pre-fix menu because it's a little less expensive for those on a strict budget like we are. But it was completely worth the splurge. The cocktails were amazing, as was the food. They bring little extras to your table to try that aren't an extra charge - just part of the experience. Sometimes fancy restaurants charge you a lot for a little food, but the portions are generous, combined with the little extra treats and bread, we left very satisfied!
A wonderful meal with my wife. We truely enjoy going there.
We had an early reservation on Sunday and ordered the multi-course tasting menu with beverage pairing. It was sensational! The ingredient combinations were creative, and the presentation was beautiful. The service was outstanding. All beverage choices were perfect. I can't wait to return!
Loved Brunch !!
