VOLT promises interesting and delectable cuisine and absolutely delivers on that. My wife and I opted for the al la carte menu, which consists of three courses and an optional tasting course. In all, we had eight different plates and both enjoyed all of them. The meal also featured an amuse-bouche and bread service. Complimentary cookies were also given with our bill. If I had one complaint I’d say that I wish our server had been a bit friendlier. The other folks, though, who brought our plates and cleaned our table were nice.
We go out to eat a lot. As we walked out of Volt, my wife’s comment was that, “This was the best tasting menu we’ve ever had.” Course after course was delicious, with unexpected combinations of flavor that unfailingly compliment each other. The wine pairings were delightful. There were three appetizers then 8 more courses, but the portions were just right. We left feeling full, but not not overwhelmed. I’m sure the tasing menu changes often, but particular highlights were the mussels, goat cheese ravioli, halibut, and duck. Service was spectacular, friendly and knowledgeable, and despite most people having multi-course dinners, the staff did a great job of keeping up. A great restaurant. Very, very highly recommended. Foodie nirvana.
It was our Anniversary. We were blown away by the great service, and the food of course was very good, and unique. It was an excellent experience.
Nice place but they have to do something about the musty basement smell when you enter the main entrance. It’s offensive and that must be taken care of
Just an great meal...
Really amazing brunch, served by extremely attentive staff. Food is playful, inventive an delicious.
Clearly the best. Creative dishes, beautiful prsentation. Professional service
We had the 10 dish tasting menu. The service was incredibly slow. The reason provided by one of the wait staff was that they had a large party outside that was being served before us. Some of the dishes were amazing hits others were utter faults. They know what they are doing in the kitchen, but did not focus on the main dining room. The table next to us got up mid service and left, as they grew tired of the wait. Our dinner took 3 hours, the time between dishes was far too long.
Everything was delicious! There was one mistake in our meal that was IMMEDIATELY taken care of. It was nice that with the open kitchen we could hear the chef speaking with the staff to ensure that it did not happen again. (This was actually a plus if you're into cooking shows!) The food was inventive and I enjoyed pairings I could never have imagined sharing a plate. I highly recommend this place!
Perhaps the best meal we've ever had at Volt - and we've had a lot of meals there. Not at all crowded, though there was a large party in the bar, so the pace was great as was the service. We had the 3 course (actually 4 since we each added a "starter") and found every course to be fabulous. The tuna tartare was excellent, as always, with layers of flavor and textures. The halibut was buttery and a large portion, perfectly cooked. The dessert, caramel cremeux, was the most complex dessert I've ever had and was fantastic - so many flavors and textures and each delicious. Fabulous job by the pastry chef. During the evening, they added a complimentary course so we were beyond stuffed by the end of the evening. Great job from beginning to end.
We had the chef's tasting menu, and loved every bite! It was the creative food that we expected, and it was also delicious. Everyone was friendly, and the service was great too. We'll be back if we're in Frederick again.
This visit as in the past, we opted for the Chef's Tasting menu. It was a wonderful choice. While we did not add the wine pairing, with a wide wine list of options we found a perfect match for the meal. Service is professional, knowledgeable and efficient. The creativity of Chef shines, and we left with some sweet treats to enjoy at home.
Unfortunately not the experience we were hoping for at this restaurant. We just moved to Frederick and waited for a visit from an out of town friend to try out Volt as a special occasion. Our reservation was at 8:30pm, and we were not seated until 9:20pm. There was no proactive acknowledgement of this issue, and we had to speak with the host and manager multiple times about how long we had been waiting before we were finally seated. Once seated, we ordered 1st and 2nd courses immediately while we continued to peruse the entree items. We did not receive any food (other than a few thin bread sticks) until after 10:15pm.
The food was good and presentation and concepts were interesting, but it certainly didn't blow our minds, and combined with the major service issues this did not live up to our expectations. Our waiter and the manager apologized and comped the two drinks we had at the bar during our extended wait time, but honestly I don't think this made up for the level of mismanagement of our reservation.
A restaurant that offers a $125-$200/person tasting menu should not have these types of issues.
One of the best meals I've ever had, hands down. Creative is an understatement. The phrase "melts in your mouth" when referring to steak was always just that, a phrase, until I ate here. Absolutely try the chef's tasting menu for your first visit. Do not go with a time restraint, be ready to stay for a while to enjoy the onslaught of opulence that is Volt's cascading courses of nuance yet familiar flavors and textures.
Dining at Volt was an overall wonderful experience. We originally came here as a date night and received outstanding service. The second time around service was relatively slow and we did not receive bread or entrees until an hour in. Our waitress was very pleasant and an overall sweetheart. Luckily company at the nearby table was entertaining and hospitable. Word of advice: go at brunch or dinner during Tuesday thru Thursday not dinner during Friday thru Monday.
Loved the food, service and ambiance, want to dine at Volt again.
This is my fourth time @ colts and it continues to improve each time. Their mastery over flavors makes every dish an experience that should not be missed. Their tasting menu is second to none and puts to shame several Michelin rated restaurants near by.
Volt is our favorite restaurant in the Baltimore-Washington region. We try to order as many different dishes as possible and then share. The creativity of the tastes and textures and the photographic quality of the plates make dining at Volt a special experience. The wait staff is convivial and entirely unpretentious.
The drive from Baltimore is only an hour mins even if you leave in the late afternoon.
Food was delicious and beautifully presented. Servers had extensive knowledge of preparation, ingredients along with the pairings. Jeremy was more than happy to explain and answer any questions.
We could not have been happier with the evening!
Another great meal at Volt. This was our first time for brunch and it was amazing. The shrimp and grits were ridiculously good. The service and food were top notch. We will definitely make Volt a regular for brunch.
Volt was just okay. The food was decent- not great, we were seated in the back room so the ambience was not very good. Maybe being seated in the dining room would be better. I had high expectations given the name associated with the restaurant but it really was bot anything to get excited about. I would not return because it is not worth the money.
Once we got seated all was great. We had reservations but was told to wait in bar then I had to complain to get waited on for drinks. Once I complained, however, the service was great. Unfortunately, this has happened 2 out of 3 times. Meal was delicious and table service excellent
I love watching the cooks and chefs working in the open kitchen! I have no idea how everything come together so wonderfully but it just does. The food is a pleasure to look at and to eat, with beautiful colors and delicious layers of flavors and textures. he wine gut really knows his job - give him a price range and he'll, fine a wine to complement your food perfectly!
Volt has been on my "bucket list" for awhile. I was thrilled to be going to celebrate my birthday. The team at Volt is amazing. We were dressed very casually and though business casual is preferred, they seated us and treated us wonderfully. The food is an experience, which is what I wanted. The main course - monkfish and rockfish were underwhelming. All else was incredible and worth the cost and experience.
Fantastic dinner - great attention to detail - everything was perfect. Service was impeccable everything tasted delicious. Bathroom was super clean. Bar was small but had a great conversation with the bartender about vodka and tequila. Overall an excellent experience and hope to return in the near future.
Volt was okay, definitely hadn’t higher expectations. We drove about an hour to get there for my husbands birthday so really expected to be wowed. I made a special request for seating arrangements for my husbands birthday and for our first time at the restaurant, and that request was definitely ignored. The restaurant is super quiet, which would be a good thing if people weren’t sitting at tables directly next to each other. It was incredibly awkward hearing 3 different conversations happening to either side of us and having to whisper to not be heard. Maybe having some music playing in the background could drown out everybody’s work day experiences or political viewpoints. Whispering was also incredibly uncomfortable because while the tables are wider than normal 2-tops, they are long...forcing people to speak louder to hear each other. The food was good I guess, but we couldn’t get over the awkwardness of the seating arrangements which kind of just ruined the rest of the vibe of the restaurant.
The staff was great and the food was amazing! Each course was a "taste adventure" and not a single one was bad! Definitely good for a special occasion.
First time visitor, and not disappointed. Wine pairing with chef's tasting menu was well thought out. Definitely worth a visit.
If you want to celebrate a special occasion, this is the place to do it. Amazing food, great service - you can't go wrong. We did the tasting menu with the wine pairings at this most recent visit and it is well worth the price. Our server was great - there was a small mishap when he spilled my husband's champagne into his lap but he was extremely apologetic, topped off both of our glasses and then took our cocktails off the bill at the end as an additional apology. (And we weren't even mad or complaining about it!) Just a great experience all the way around!
Exceptional food. Truly inventive flavor combos. Timing was uneven for the tasting menu. First courses came too quickly, long lapses between later courses.
Volt was awesome! The food was delicious, carefully prepared, and clearly _designed_. The staff was at 100%. Dinner was actually very reasonably priced at about $45 per person: we spent most of our money on wine expertly selected by the sommelier :). Volt offers two fixed menus - 3 course prix fixe meal option with an optional 4th tasting course, or a 10 course tasting menu, with optional pairings. We went with the dinner, because we arrived rather late and didn’t want to discommode the staff, but it looked tantalizing.
Three course Sunday brunch was amazing! Will definitely go back to try some of the other offerings.
Food as always, is spectacular. The service can be a bit "snooty" however, this was not the case on this evening. Everything was perfect. Great bar scene, creative cocktails exceptional food and perfect service. Great Time!!
We did the brunch chefs tasting menu with beverage pairings. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend
We had brunch at Volt last weekend and it was simply outstanding. It’s amazing that after so many years in operation, they still put out delicious food/art and high quality service. At $35 for their 3 course brunch, it is also a superb value.
This is hands-down the best restaurant i have been to. Their tasting menu was JUST INCREDIBLE and the wine pairing were one of the best (fyi, we are avid wine drinkers and know our wines well). All the wines paired so well with each course that each one of them made the food taste even better and vice versa, it matched the texture and the spices/flavors of the dish. Couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate my husband's birthday. And as if we didn't have enough, we are already considering re-visiting Volt soon and this time with the whole family.
MUST TRY - their tasting menu with wine pairing.
I've been wanting to dine at Volt for many years. It was worth waiting for-- the best food I've had anywhere in a very long time. From the exquisite carrot and foie gras macaron amuse bouche to the plate of confections generously offered at the end of the meal, everything was masterful, beautifully presented, and popping with deep flavor. We might have to go back and do the whole tasting menu!
Nice experience at the Chef's Counter with a 15-course meal that was well-paced and lovely. Cocktails and wine were terrific! A nice highlight. It was neat to be seated right behind the garde manger and have a clear view into the kitchen. Very inspirational to see how focused and hard the staff works in creating a great dining experience for guests.
We came to Volt for our anniversary and were blown away! We were greeted at the door and offered the “chef’s table” section- which we did not expect and absolutely loved! We spoke with the sommelier about Maryland wine and he was honest and approachable about their selections. Stan and Justin were warm, professional, and knowledgeable. Stan even gave us a tour of the building after dinner! The staff was very accommodating to our dietary restrictions and we were excited to feel included instead of being a burden. We mentioned that we worked in restaurants and they sent us out a free course just because- so sweet! Every course was carefully thought out and well prepared and we especially enjoyed the dessert course (including the complimentary coconut sorbet)! The pastry chef is very creative and you can tell she’s having fun. Thank you so much to everyone at Volt! We are still talking about how much we enjoyed our experience.
Every dish was truly amazing!
