Volpe Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
We truly enjoyed the ambiance and delicious meal. Having a Valentine's Day birthday is always "interesting" because the weekend before, after and during Valentines day is usually so busy that the service in a restaurant is less than attentive. At Volpe all was great!
It was just ok . Restaurant didn’t feel like a restaurant - it was more of room in a country club venue vibe (and I don’t mean they in an exclusive way). Food was mediocre - I got the surf and turf and asked for my steak to be cooked medium (it was well done). My husband’s grilled calamari app was rubbery but he did say his shrimp francese was decent. Spent time before hand perusing the menu & wine list in the hopes of it being a nice birthday dinner & it was disappointing.
My wife and I arranged with another professional medical couple for a 7:30 reservation on Saturday night, 2/3/18, at the Volpe restaurant. The bar area and restaurant are well designed and decorated with taste.
However, the meal was one of the worst we've ever had. The food portion of the meal for four people was $173. My wife and I shared two items on the special menu, snapper for two ($59) and for dessert, strawberries with cannoli custard ($14).
The snapper came out baked in a thick brown salt crust. The waiter removed the crust with difficulty, discarded it, and filleted the sides of the fish for two servings. The fish was extremely dry, and he struggled to keep each side together. On each oval white plate was a semblance of a fillet separated into multiple pieces as if a child had played with his food. Each plate was mostly empty, and the pieces of fish were filled with bones. The fish was overwhelmed by the salt and was otherwise tasteless, dry, and flaky. The waiter made up a sauce of oil, lemon, and rosemary to disguise the vile fish, but it was unsuccessful. My wife squeezed her lemons and mine onto the fish, still it was dry and inedible. He should have offered to take it back. We did not want to make a fuss, as we were out with another couple; otherwise, we would have paid for the salad appetizer and left.
The strawberries were equally disappointing. Served were three very small strawberries with custard placed on their tops. They were old and partly rotting. It just seems inappropriate for $4.67 each.
We could tell that the waiter was embarrassed. Unfortunately, management did not permit him the liberty of offering a better fare.
We will never return.

This was our second venture back to Volpe Ristorante during the recently concluded holiday season and we were once again among old friends who never fail to make our dining experience one to remember. Our thanks go out to Glen, Pierro, Moises and Kevin. They are professional, courteous and considerate. Our party of three thoroughly enjoyed our entrees, NY shell steak, lobster risotto and chicken marsala, and at the end of the evening, along with the accompaniment of the pianist, we were even regaled by a surprise, live, solo performance from Mr. Scotto himself! We can't wait to return for another engagement. Thank you!
I needed to push back my reservation by a half hour and this was no problem for them. It was also our anniversary (we were married at Fox Hollow) and they treated us with a bottle of Prosecco. Great meal, beautifully decorated, great service. We will be back again next year.
Volpe's is a lovely, elegant restaurant. The service is friendly yet professional. We were a party of three and ordered a variety of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. The portions are generous (we all took home leftovers) and beautifully prepared.
The only thing I would change is to make reservations directly with the restaurant and not to use Open Table. OT indicated that there was only one reservation available at a time much earlier than I wanted. I took it thinking that between holiday parties and Friday dining, it was the best I could do. Imagine my surprise when we arrived and we were the only people in the dining room for over an hour! I suspect Volpe and other restaurants post very few time slots with OT. It was very disappointing and put a bit of a sour note in our experience.
My wife and I have been returning to Fox Hollow, in particular the Volpe Restaurant, for over 20 years and we particularly look forward to re-connecting with the staff that works there who we now consider our friends! Glen is a most attentive bartender who always makes the two of us feel special. The same goes for Pierro and Moises who always graciously greet us when we return for an anniversary event. The food was delicious. My wife had shrimp and I had the Scotto Special. They even gave us an anniversary keepsake cake to take home with us. We hope to return more often and can't say enought about the positive feelings we have.
We’ve recently begun dining at Volpe, and it’s a very pleasant experience. The food is delicious, the wine list impressive, and the seasonal cocktails are really interesting. Their best feature (after the food) is the top-notch service They provide, and we particularly enjoy having Pierro take care of us when we dine. About him there are only good things to say: friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient!
Had a perfect nite with a last minute reservation. Had a reservation for months at a sister Anthony Scotto restaurant, rare650, where I spent a half hour walking through the restaurant and finalizing my choice for table 72 for my son's surprise engagement dinner for 12. When I confirmed the ' day of' I was literally called a 'liar' by their manager , Paul, who said I could not have been promised a particular table. I was beyond insulted and upset and my husband cancelled our long planned party at Rare650 solely because of their arrogant manager Paul. I had previously heard about Volpe and had met their manager, Moises, who turned out to be super professional and so we switched this other Scotto restaurant . by the end of our party , he helped us forget the awful way I was spoken to by Paul. The point is that although both places have great food and wait staff I have never been spoken to like this Paul person spoke to me , telling me that he is the highest person in the chain that I could deal with and literally laughing at me when I gave him details of my conversation with the woman I booked with in person months earlier. Neither I nor my friends will ever go back to rare650. But volpe, that's another story.; one with a happy ending
I have been to Volpe many times over the years. Basically a neighborhood place with pretty good food and a very good atmosphere. Quiet relaxing place with better than average service. I started with the shrimp cocktail which is excellent here and had a veal chop as the main dish which was also top notch. Other main dishes aren't as good as what I had. I would also recommend the shrimp francese.
Underwhelmed with the food and service. Food was bland and server unattentive. The noise was overwhelming due to a large birthday party at a nearby table and then a very large group from a wedding was hanging out in the bar area. I had a headache by the time we left. We were celebrating our anniversary and there was nothing special done or even mentioned. What a waste of time and money.
We had a delicious dinner on Thursday "prime rib night". The baked clams were amazing, delicately seasoned and cooked perfectly; the soup was a beautifully fragrant, roasted chestnut cream, again seasoned to compliment the flavor of the chestnuts not over power them; the prime rib served in its own flavorful juices, with buttery mashed potatoes, and al dente green beans and carrots melted in your mouth. Sadly, we did not save room for dessert so we will have to wait until next time! 🙂
Food was good, but took forever to get it. French onion soup needed more taste. Caesar salad was good. Twin lobster tails stuffed with crabmeat were ok. Crab meat was just sprinkled on top of lobster, somewhat dry. Shrimp piccata was overdone and hard. Needed more flavor
Wonderful meal. Excellent service. Husband ordered a dish. Asked what it came with. Was told potatoes and vegetables. He asked if he could substitute them for spaghetti. Was told no substitutions. It was not a special. Should of been much more accommodating. Piano player was very nice.
My husband & I went to Volpe for our 2 year wedding anniversary & were married at the Fox Hollow in 2015. The ambiance is just perfect as was the food! We were given a bottle of Prosecco at the table to celebrate our anniversary & our waiter gave us this adorable little 3 tiered cake to take home...our experience was excellent from the moment we walked in to when we left & we would absolutely recommend Volpe & can't wait to return there for dinner!
I reserved on line for our 30th wedding Anniversary. We had our reception at the Fox Hollow June 20th 1987. When we arrived last week on June 20th 2017 a bottle of delicious Processco was chilled and ready for us to indulge. The nice part about that was I never ordered the Processco and it was on the house. A lovely evening we will never forget. It was Perfect!
My wife and I were celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary and decided to see what good restaurants there were. I did some research and saw Volpe on a list of top restaurants for long island. I figured I'd give it a shot since I didn't see any negative reviews. Defintely glad I made the decision! We had the most amazing waiter! He was so nice and funny and my wife thought he was an absolute gentleman. We loved hearing about his wife's homemade ravioli. We just couldn't get over the service! And the food was amazing. Not that often my wife and I finish an appetizer, our entrees, and our own desserts (completely! No left overs!). It is a quiet, romantic place; somewhere to just get away and have some 1:1 time :)
Went to Volpe with my husband and friends and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! The ambience was elegant yet comfortable, the service was excellent and our server Armando had a great sense of humor. The food was very good, and presented nicely. Beautiful setting too! We enjoyed the piano player Charles who came around asking for requests and played our wedding songs. Would certainly go back and recommend to others as well.
