Volario's at Vasquez Creek Inn Ratings and Reviews
Steak was undercooked and tough. This was the chef's special, and it did not speak well for this chef.
My glass of wine had the dregs from the bottle, which gave me a really unpleasant surprise as I was finishing my glass. Ugh! Whoever trains the wine pourer did a really bad job. Even a newbie wine pourer in a lousy restaurant should know not to do this!
Overall great experience. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The pasta is delicious as they make their own. The portions are on the smaller side if you order something other than pasta. And if you order something other than pasta it is expensive. I think they do pasta really well.
Had a wonderful experience on New Year’s eve with my family. bar and restaurant service was excellent, servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Received our drinks and food promptly. The food was excellent, especially the salmon special. The meatball appetizer was plentiful and very tasty. Excellent wine list.
The service was terrible. Being a family who doesn’t drink and is vegetarian on NYE, our waiter immediately hated us. He was rude and did not pay much attention to us. They also charged us $24 for 5 PIECES OF GNOCCHI with JUST sauce on it. Absolutely ridiculous. They are obviously very proud of it, but I have had far better gnocchi everywhere else. Oh, and when we asked about the ridiculous price of the gnocchi, the hostess doubled as the manager. This place needs to get it together. Will definitely never be back ✌🏼
Our server didn’t come to our table for 20 minutes. We finally asked if we had a server assigned to our table. After waiting for our food for an hour and 45 minutes, we left. They were nice enough to comp our wine and side salad, but we left hungry and ordered a pizza.
We’d heard great things about this restaurant and were sorely disappointed by our visit. Our table was not offered the free bread that people had raved about, our waiter barely checked on us in our private room, the wine list wasn’t up to date & two in our party ordered “the chefs special” only to find the pork chewy, the brussel sprouts over cooked and the gnocchi dry.
Good food if you order the right items. Piccata was not thin; more like a grilled chicken breast, dry, not the right sauce. The meatballs and parpadelle entree were great. Decent service, but as with everywhere in this town, everyone seems overwhelmed. Worth it if you’re looking for something nice in winter park
While vacationing in Granby, we made a reservation for Christmas. Upon arriving, we realized it was a fixed dinner menu. When we asked about accommodations, we were told none could be made. We went ahead with the meal and were very disappointed in the meal overall. The first two courses were fine (soup and pesto/mozzarella with toasted bread). The main course was just okay for my husband (scallops,) horrible for me (sweet potato gnocchi), and very good for our two children (carbonara). I asked to send the gnocchi back and get the carbonara instead but was told I could not as there was no more cream sauce for the pasta. No options were offered. I shared with my daughter and sent my entire entree back. The dessert looked much better than it tasted. It was dry and appeared to be thrown together. No management staff visited our table to problem solve the issue with my meal and we were charged full price despite the fact that I didn't eat a full meal. My advice is don't even bother going there. They don't bother with customer service.
We ate at Volario's on Christmas Eve, when we made the reservation we did not notice that there was only going to be a special menu. It was a bit surprising to see the cost of the dinner we were going to participate in, once we were seated. In fact a table that came in after us left when they looked at their menus, it wasn't cheap! I really like this restaurant, think its one of the best in the valley, but was not a fan of the limited menu. Wasn't terribly excited about any of the options. We had a child with us and she got the steak, which was the same size as the adult, which was totally ridiculous, it was as large as her head. Completely over the top, which was really disappointing. It wasn't a great experience, definitely will not be coming back on a limited menu night and I wish the reservation system would have informed us of this change. But we will go back, just not anytime soon...
A consistent dining option in Winter Park year round for locals and tourists alike to enjoy a good happy hour menu, tasty Italian fare, and solid cocktails. While Volarios sees some staff turnover, several of the bar and dining room staff are extremely seasoned and provide exceptional service. Highly recommend the meatballs, lasagna, and spaghetti.
The menu is just right in options. To me indicates the focus on cooking seasonal food and what they know. The mushroom pasta is a staple on their menu and it is always tasty and comforting. The Thanksgiving menu had a swordfish option which was one of the best I have eaten. Volario’s is alway a must go to in Winter Park.
They were closing in a few days for the slow season and were out of several of the main dishes. When we made the reservation we said it was for a birthday and also mentioned to the waiter, no response. Mentioned to the waiter our disappointment in the number of items they were out of, again no response. This was a special Birthday celebration with good friends, and we all left disappointed.
As indicated by other reviewers, the food is fantastic, but the service is average at best. As another reviewer stated our waiter also mispronounced pesce. The wine list is overpriced and offers few options under $50. The dining room was almost empty, which always makes for a less fun atmosphere. It seemed like the only music was the rock and roll coming from the bar, so it was painfully quiet. If the service matched the food level this place would be packed. If we go back we will eat in the bar.
Volario's serves up great Italian cusine at extremely reasonable prices. It is our go to when friends and family visit Winter Park or we need good comfort food and excellent service. Happy hour drinks are well made and priced - definitely worth s stop if you are hiking, biking, fishing, or skiing.
The Devil's Thumb management always seems just a little stiff and unapproachable. I have never gotten a gracious and warm feeling from their staff. The food is very good but might not be worth the stilted atmosphere. The waitstaff consisting of two waiters and two bus people were busy and had difficulty serving 10 tables on the patio and two inside. They seemed a bit understaffed and the manager was helping with tables and the bar.
We were eating with a friend who has Celiac and there are few things on this menu for a gluten free vegetarian (I realize that this is a hard client to please but there are more and more people eating this way). The manager upon being asked told our friend that it's a Northern Italian restaurant and that the pasta is made on site. Well, we knew that and maybe we should have chosen another restaurant but they are not accommodating at all. It would be nice to see grilled vegetables and a gluten free grain option on the menu. We tried to view the menu before we went but their menu button on their web page does not load and the menus that were on Open Table were out of date. We spent $200 between 5 people (two of which were kids) and I wished we had spent that money at another restaurant.
We enjoyed a lovely dinner, including spaghetti with meatballs and trout. The wines were delicious, and they have excellent wine offerings. The ambience is first rate and our server, Mark, was just delightful. He was polite, friendly, prompt, and made very good recommendations. We will ask for him again. Everyone on the staff that we encountered was very nice. This restaurant is several cuts above most Winter Park restaurants and, in our opinion, should be packed every night! We read comments from others complaining about slow service; we did not encounter that at all. Bravo, Volario's; Winter Park needed you badly!
I had been to the bar for drinks during ski season. While there, I spotted a MASSIVE meatball. I knew I'd try it next time. Sure enough, I ordered spaghetti and meatballs...AMAZING! The meatball was stuffed with mozzarella. The pasta was homemade and in a delicious cheesy sauce. Yum.
Volario's is a decent albeit expensive restaurant. We were there during the Jazz Festival and to be honest it was a tad hectic and the food and service took a bit longer that I expected. I ordered the FlatIron steak and it was near perfect. My wife ordered the lamb and it was over cooked. We had the prawns as an appetizer and to be honest it was underwhelming. Three little shrimp with heads in some tomato broth for $15. Ouch. The salad I got was also 'meh'. I was expecting more given the price point. Overall, you get a nice presentation, good to excellent food, but really small portions. A meal for two with wine, two appetizers, and main courses came to about $120. I think for the price point I expect more, but I accept the fact that you're paying a premium for such food in a resort town like Winter Park. This restaurant was on our bucket list and I'm glad we tried it to see what all the praise was about but I doubt I'll return. It's just too much to pay for what you get.
