Established in 1997, Volare welcomes guests to enjoy upscale Italian cuisine in a classically styled Italian Restaurant. Located on East Grand Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, Volare offers guests the opportunity to take a step back in time and to enjoy a traditional Italian meal made with only the finest cuts of meat and fresh produce. Local favorites include Pollo alla Parmigiana, Paella alla Sarda, Linguine Arselle e Bottarga, Panino con Costolette di Manzo and Bistecca di Manzo alla Griglia. Wanting to provide guests with the experience of eating in a classic Italian eatery, Volare has been decorated with white linens, a combination of both wooden and leather seats and wooden tables. Guests also have the option to enjoy their meals outside on the sun-filled patio.
I love this place! They have the best homemade pasta and vodka sauce. Sadly, they are closing,
so we will have to find something that might come close.
Our service was awful. We had to ask the host / other servers to send over our own server multiple times. Our food was incorrectly ordered (but delicious) and it took forever. Dinner for two, sat down at 7:00 PM and didn't receive our check until 9:15.
The downtown restaurant is one of my favorite places. The food was just as good at this location. You can definitely feel the passion the owner has for a great dining experience.
The kale salad with roasted chickpeas was a standout. We all felt that the sauces were too rich and tended to overwhelm the taste of the seafood. The Black Spaghetti was quite nice. Our server gave useful suggestions and knew the menu well so could answer some specific questions.
Unusual twist on a few Italian dishes that makes it fun, especially the Volare salad.
Would go back in a heart beat!
We have gone to this restaurant many times and it is always great for food, service an ambiance. We highly recommend Volare West to anyone in the Western suburbs who does not want to drive into the city to have great Italian food.
Always good food. Sorry to hear they are selling this one in oak brook .
Had reservation at 7pm. Checked in and told there were no tables. Went to bar to wait, checked with host twice more in the 1 hour we waited in bar. After seeing two parties the same size as ours, who arrive at least 30 minutes after us, seated, we called a nearby restaurant, made a reservation, paid our bar tab and left Volare. Because we were not seated in a timely manner, we missed our Christmas eve church service. We are not strangers to Volare, and the food is delicious, but on such a busy evening, they should not have overbooked reservations.
My husband and I took our son there to celebrate his 25 Birthday on December 24th. We had made early reservations because we figured they would be busy. Upon arrival, there were several large parties and the place was hopping. We were seated in a separate room right next to the kitchen. My husband asked if there was anywhere else since we would be in line of the kitchen traffic. Another table was pointed out which wasn't any better. Realizing that there weren't any better places to sit because of the large parties, we stayed where we were. Service was fine until our server was placed with a party of 30. We knew that the service was going to suffer. Prior to the server waiting on the party of 30, we had questions regarding some of the food items. I had one more question and the server responded that we ask too many questions and he didn't return. Another server gave us our check. The food was very good, however, this isn't the place to go on a holiday. I felt regardless on how busy a restaurant is, service should be spot on especially when you are spending quite a bit of money. It will be some time before we return.
We enjoyed our evening at Volare...food was great and we will go back.
Food was good. Service was good. A little loud but there were multiple Xmas parties so that's expected
I have been here for dinner and Volare never fails! Lunch was also wonderful. Four friends, we all enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere for a little Chistmas lunch. I will be back again!
The Volare West could not have been a better place to celebrate our anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Our server, Ben, was helpful, insightful and pleasure to speak with. The food was outstanding! Every bit as good as the Volare on Grand. I plan on making reservations again in the near future.
We were in this restaurant for 1 hr. and 50 minutes. Of that time, we spent more than half the time waiting. We waited for drinks (15 min.), waiting for our appetizer (20 min.), and waiting to order our entrees (10 min. after we finished our appetizer), and in general, waited for our server to reappear. When we finally got our entrees, mine was wrong and the response was a lame apology and no attempt to correct the situation. When the server finally presented the check, she made all kinds of excuses, effectively blaming the bad service on the kitchen's inability to deal with groups that night. I don't care what the problem was or who was at fault. This was a bad reflection on your restaurant. If you can't handle big groups, don't accept the bookings.
Very welcoming atmosphere. Bar had a jazz singer nice back ground music for dinner. We started with eggplant stuffed with ricotta. It melts in your mouth.MMMM. Then came Zuppa De Pece; filled with all types of seafood and pasta cooked perfectly. Definitely will come back.
Probably will not go back. Ain't was ok but just not our kind of restaurant.
Thanksgiving meal was like the best homecooked dinner.
Been here numerous times. This time was a quiet Monday night. Service excellent as was the food. Will be back many more times.
Had a grilled fish appetizer with octopus, scallops, calamari & shrimp . It was fishy tasting. Not a good start on my first visit. Didn't like that there was no olive oil on the table for the bread. Just some tomato sauce to dip the bread in. My veal limone was average. Portion size not very ample. Sides ok. My friend ordered a flank steak special; it was tender. He had a lot of leftovers. Very ordinary desserts. I was treated to a message from Open Table that I was a no show for this reservation. In fact , I arrived 20" early & was seated. Had to prove I actually went. Luckily, I saved my credit card. Shame on the restaurant for trying to scam the system.
Met another couple here for dinner for my husband's 44th birthday. Our service was great, we lingered over our appetizers and drinks and never felt rushed but our server kept are glasses full. I had chicken Parmesan and the others in our group were pleased with their dishes as well.
When I ordered grilled shrimp with pasta with pesto with steamed broccoli they gave me 5 small shrimp on a separate plate, pasta slathered with pesto sauce on a second plate and broccoli on a third plate. Very poor presentation and way too expensive for what was served.
The food and staff was amazing. The food and the atmosphere was romantic and very authentic. Will absolutely visit again
Great feel. Quiet enough for pairs but lively enough for a group work lunch. Certain rooms seemed to fit parties.
The wait staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and provide consistent, friendly service. I had the minestrone soup as a starter, which had vegetables so fresh that I thought they were plucked from a garden out back minutes before being cooked. I chose a simple dish - spaghetti with marina sauce and a side of meatballs - and it was very delicious. I had a half order and still ended up with a leftover box. For dessert, they offer a variety of small cup delights that are a perfect size of only a handful of spoon bits, and good to savor with coffee . I chose the tiramasu cup. My friend, who has a gluten allergy, had some nice options to choose from on the menu. The wait staff were very careful providing her gluten-free dish in a timely manner.
Afterward, we stopped at the bar with the intention of having one drink before heading home. I found a table located near a wall of some Frank Sinatra pictures, which I liked because I am a big fan. A short time later, a performer took to the mini stage and started singing a Frank Sinatra song. The performer was very talented and the volume was just right so you could hear him and still talk to people next to you if need be. The performer sang for two-plus hours without taking a break and covered a wide range of songs, including Sinatra, Bobby Vinton, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, Justin Timberlake, and Michael Buble to name a few. As the night went on, numerous bar patrons joined in the singing or danced. We ended up being the second last patrons to leave at midnight feeling quite good. The bar wait staff are friendly and provided fantastic service despite all the fun going on in the bar area. The bar has a plethora of entertainment planned throughout the month, which is shown on a poster right near the hostess area. I plan to come back for delicious food and quality entertainment!
The only negative is that the parking lot is small. Sometimes it will be tough to find a spot. They do offer valet parking.
The service at the bar as well as at the table was very friendly and efficient. Our table waiter had quite a sense of humor! The food was good, my soft shelled crab however was a bit crunchy.
Now I remember what I do not like and makes me upset about Volare--the parking situation. The restaurant is in a very small strip mall with apartment complexes and office buildings around it. The parking spaces in the front and on the side of the restaurant are blocked with cones for Valet Parking. All other spaces are reserved for the other businesses in the mall with a sign that violators will be towed. Spaces in the office building lots also have towing notices. The hostesses stated that the restaurant has no control over this as the Valet Company does it. This, of course, is a ridiculous statement. This situation gives the customer a very negative feeling about the restaurant and the quality of the food and service did not make up for it.
Our party of four spent 2 hours at dinner on Saturday night. This is highly unusual for us. It took more than an hour to get our entrees. The waitress was very apologetic and we were given a Caprese salad as a gift followed by some cookies to take home. The food was very good when we finally were served but it was very late for us.
We were disappointed in the service and food on this visit to Volare West. It was not up to the standard that we have come to expect when dining at Volare West.
Delicious dishes! Yum!!
The restaurant was half empty but a bar is annexed with live music.
We were seated and provided water then the wait began. Our waiter seemed overly involved with two other tables 10 minutes to get a cocktail Oder. Maître d walked by several times and had to notice but never even asked how out meal was.
20 minutes later drinks came and I noted we had sufficient time to memorize the menu. The saga continued. Finally got our meal by now only 3 tables were being served. Then the rush to clear us out began. One of us had to take the plate back from our server. No kidding.
Throughout the night we did not feel welcomed. Maybe locals do but we did not and this was a bday dinner for my son and they were aware
The food was good but there are plenty of Italian restaurants in town.
As I mentioned there is a bar with live music annexed. At some point someone decided to open the bars doors and the loud music in the dining room made it difficult to carry a conversation
I've eaten at volare downtown often and highly recommend it. Volare west needs to retrain staff or close it's doors
I would have selected yes for recommending the restaurant to a friend. The rest of the buttons did not work either. The restaurant was fabulous! I look forward to returning. The waitress was extremely helpful with her wine recommendation and the menu. I saw a dish on your website and she new exactly what I was referring to and helped me pick a main dish that fit in with my dietary needs.
Great food and service, we really like this restaurant. The black linguini noodles were a bit sticky this time and that was disappointing.
I have been to Volare multiple times and the service and food never disappoint. Very consistent and our server was a great guy who was always available but not intrusive.
Made reservation but host/hostess not at station when we arrived. Waited a few minutes.
Table location ok. Nice linens and beginning service. Waitress friendly, almost overly so.
Clams good but too small and over-priced. Please serve w/ 2 seafood forks for two people!
Ceaser salad generous but too much dressing. Could serve two people but was told this was not an option. Too bad.
Gnocchi was too soft as served, then as cooled, firmed up. Good sauce. Veal was delicate and sauce good. Potatoes pretty blah! Please come up with another option with imagination.
Wine also good but was pricy.
Tell waitress to back off a little. Too many personal questions. Where do you live? Etc.
Overall our food was very good (except for several green beans on both mine and my husband's plates that still had the inedible stems on). We had a reservation and were seated at the back of the second dining room near the kitchen even though several nicer tables towards the front went unfilled the entire time we were there into the busier dinner hour. Our waitress was fine but not great; she didn't check whether my husband wanted the menu filet or the special filet until after our first course so then of course it was a longer wait for our entrees. The bread basket and plates were left on our table throughout the whole meal even though the waitress, a food runner, a busboy, and a woman who may have been the manager came by. Eventually another manager (?) cleared them after we'd finished our entrees; we were never offered more bread after we'd finished what was there either. We waited several minutes for the waitress to come back with our check at the end as well. The food, as mentioned, tasted very good, but the service definitely did not meet the same standard.
This use to be a sure fire recommendation but the food was almost mediocre. Sadly my last time there. Don't know what happened but lost so much in my opinion
My friends and I love to meet for dinner at Volare in Oakbrook. The restaurant is not loud so we are easily able to converse, the service and food are always excellent. Half portions of some entrees are even offered at dinner time which is great and the mini desserts are excellent and just the right size.
We were seated right away upon checking in for our reservation. The table where we sat was right inside the door and the temperature was very hot the entire time. My husband and I were sweating the entire dinner where we had to use our napkins to wipe the sweat off our faces, when we asked our server if it was always this hot in the restaurant his response was "you should have been in here yesterday!".
Loved the surprise dessert for our anniversary!
Volare West's Chef is truly outstanding. My spouse and I had the lasagna and spaghetti neri al pesce, respectively, which were both the best we've ever had. Beyond that, we were disappointed.
First, we made the reservation on-line as an anniversary dinner. We were not greeted with any kind of enthusiasm and were directed to a choice of places, which seemed odd (we are used to being given a specific and special place when we have reservations elsewhere). When I mentioned the temperature of the dining room (others commented on this also), the hostess did lower the window shade behind us (about 7 pm); later when this was mentioned to the manager, he neither responded in word or action. Our server failed to go through the specials, other than "This is a list of our specials," and he brought us a deplorable show tray of desserts - we even asked if there were something not on the tray, to which he mentioned "a cake tiramisu" (why would this NOT be on a menu or on the tray for an Italian restaurant?). We didn't feel the wait staff was very attentive regarding our drinks, which was coffee and water, since neither of us imbibe. In fact, the wait staff seemed shy and reluctant to speak. No one acknowledged our anniversary in any way, not even verbally. When we were ready to leave, I asked the hostess did she have us down as an "anniversary dinner," and she said there was no record. By the way, in checking my Open Table email-confirmation, our anniversary was mentioned. We left feeling as if we had incredibly marvelous food in a nonprofessional establishment. In addition, I was looking forward to the advertised "entertainment," but with our proximity, we barely could hear the musicians perform. My spouse commented, "The food was great, but there are many restaurants that serve great food and have great service; too bad, they missed the mark." We both questioned the possibility of returning.
