Volare Ristorante Ratings and Reviews
Volare lacked ambiance but the service was awesome. We had the sausage and peppers appetizer which was awesome, however our entrees were average. The entree felt like it was missing a pasta side dish. I had the chicken piccata which had a wonderful sauce with capers and artichokes but was over-cooked and quite tough. My husbad love the chicken parmigian.
Normally a great restaurant. On this particular visit, Volare was off its game. We were placed in the sidewalk dining area (01/20/18) which was enclosed and had heaters. We were placed directly under one of the heaters, which felt like a broiler. Our waitress explained there was limited control of the heater. Since we we away from the main dining room, service seemed unusually slow - out of sight is out of mind. Our waitress, whom we had before and was excellent that visit, was having an off night - apologized constantly - explained a shortage of Cooks in the kitchen - forgot the normal table set-ups (water, bread, drink refills, etc). The food was the saving grace. Yet, the Fileto ordered as medium, ran from medium well to medium to medium rare. Still, it was tender and delicious.
We went out for a late dinner after arriving back in town from a trip. It had been a few years since we were at this restaurant. We always had a good experience but it's a half hour from the house. We made a reservations on OT, got there and were seated right away. Our server, Klotilda (I thought it was Claudia and kept calling her that) got us drinks in a jiffy. I asked her how the pour was and she said pretty good but I ordered a double bourbon anyway. It came out in a tall glass - it looked like a glass of soda. We ordered appetizers which were outstanding and by the time they were done, the salads came and then the entree. Perfect timing on everything. All the food was delicious - my son had the 18 oz ribeye; it was like 2" thick. I realized I had underestimated how good this restaurant is and will start going more regularly. We were too full to eat dessert.
The food was good but overpriced. Do not sit on the porch in the cold season. The overhead heaters burned our necks and ears. They finally turned them off after two requests only to turn them back on 5 minutes later. Our whole meal felt rushed by the server and busboy. Left with a splitting headache. Ruined our new years eve!
This is one of our go-to places for birthdays, get-togethers with friends and date nights.
We have been to Volare in the past for New Year's Eve but we will not be returning next year. When the restaurant called to confirm our reservation, I was told there was going to be a limited menu. Not only was the menu extremely limited but many prices were dramatically increased. My father-in-law loves fish and the only fish on the menu was Chilean Bass for $56, therefore he did not order it because of the inflated price. There was no children's menu but they did accommodate us.
We love their pizzas but unfortunately that were none on the menu. The menu had a very limited number of salads. My husband's favorite is the NYC (chopped salad) but that was not on the menu.
I specifically booked an early reservation so that we would not be with the crowds and be rushed. Unfortunately, wait people were asking us if they could remove our dishes before we were done. One after another.
I understand that restaurants often have limited menus on New Years' Eve but Volare's was too limited. It is important for restaurants to retain the loyalty of regular customers such as us whether or not it is a holiday. Volare failed at this.
The Halibut was good. The braised beef/veal Ravioli however was swimming in its sauce which could have been reduced by 70%. The wine selection was very disappointing. The bottle recommended, after a lengthy menu search, was over ripe and on the edge. We should have sent it back but chose to finish our dinners and leave. We will not be returning.
After hearing much positive reports, we were slightly disappointed in our overall experience.
The salads were wilted by overdressing, the sea bass was noticeably “fishy”, the gnocchi was over cooked and squishy, but my wife’s shrimp dish and my son’s chicken parmigiana was well prepared.
Service was disinterested and confused.
Average meal, for the $$$$ it should have been excellent. Waitress was slow and took 5-10m before she took our drink order. Food was slow to table and warm not hot. Two filets, bottle of wine and chicken parmigiana $173 including tip. Was not worth it. Looked to try this restaurant as we hit many of the fine dining in the area . We won’t be back.
Even though we had reservations, the person greeted us as if we just walked in off the street and did not acknowledge that we were there celebrating birthdays. Service was still good even though the waiter did not know about our birthday celebration. Food and wine were very good.
We met a group of friends for a holiday get together. There were 10 of us. Our reservation was at 7pm on Saturday December 2. Everything was wonderful with the exception of our waiter. It was apparent that he was anxious to be done with his shift. He hurried us along. Did not ask if we were interested in appetizers, dessert, another round of cocktails, coffee. His demeanor was sullen. Sadly, it put quite a damper on our celebratory mood. I am sure that we will return but pray that we don’t have the same young man as our server.
Our server was just fair. He was nice , but never told us what the specials were and could have been a little friendly, more informative and more talkative. My medium, cooked through salmon was raw. I was only able to eat half of it. The server offered to have it cooked more but that didn't appeal to me after the fact. We didn't make a big deal but it was obvious that it was not cooked enough. When the waiter gave us the bill he did not charge us for the salmon which was appreciated. We liked the restaurant atmosphere and would return but would make sure my food was cooked properly before beginning my meal
It's such a pleasure to dine at Volare. We have never been disappointed. From the Sea Bass to the Veal Chop (wish I had taken a pic) the four of us couldn't have imagined anything better. The wine list is ample and fairly priced. This is our favorite place by far. I miss the booths for four but Volare won't leave you wanting for anything else.
