Voila French Bistro Ratings and Reviews
Hostess was not informed of our anniversary and she needed the owners approval with confusion to change our table from right in front of the kitchen.. Onion soup was good, not the best ever. My scallops were prepared perfectly, one of the best scallop dishes I ever had. My girlfriends lamb had bone slivers in the tough meat and had an off taste, it was inedible. They refunded the dish without a problem. The bread was a good hot French loaf. Tasted like they baked it in house. The atmosphere was pleasant but not too romantic. The small selection of wine was good. We probably will not return since I would rate the overall experience a 6 out of 10 . There are so many better restaurants in the Scottsdale area.
My partner & I had lunch at Voila for Valentine’s Day and had a wonderful experience. It’s a warm, cozy atmosphere coupled with well paced & pleasant service. The menu is small, simple with a special 3 course price fixe for the day. Good selection of wines by the glass. We started with the onion soup & the crab salad - both good sizes with very good taste. Our entrees, Croque Monsieur & steak frites were the perfect size full of incredible flavor. The ‘frites’ were amazingly simple yet incredible. Too stuffed for dessert but we will be back for dinner. Definitely a ‘go to’ spot for a good meal.
Four of us (2 couples ) enjoyed a very pleasant dining experience - very competent French Bistro fare professionally served. Excellent small wine list with first class selection of French appellation wines and with very approachable pricing The starters were excellent - salads, onion soup and moules. Three of our four mains were spot on and very nicely rendered. One Dover Sole was a bit fishy... we split two deserts and we’re very pleased with our choices.
It isn’t French haute cuisine and doesn’t pretend to be. We did think the prices were a bit high for Bistro fare. We shall give it another try - nice experience and wait staff were very pleasant.
The service was excellent; we were welcomed immediately and warmly. We sat outside on a beautiful Arizona evening. The ambience was lovely and the noise level was low so it was refreshingly easy to carry on a conversation. The food was delightfully French, original and delicious. We shared an appetizer of razor clams, a very unusual and tasty treat. We also shared the chicken entrée which was very tender and perfectly seasoned. We didn't intend to order dessert, but we couldn't stop ourselves since everything else was so good. We ordered the apple crumble with vanilla ice cream with no regrets. Even the coffee was outstanding!
Wife and I decided to come here for a "date-night" on our last night in town. Great decision! Cuisine was fabulous, service was delightful & top notch. This is like a small bistro you'd find throughout France - great food, good wine selection and you're treated like a valued guest. Not inexpensive, but ingredients are clearly fresh and top notch and well worth it for a special occasion. We'll be back on future trips to town!
On arrival we were greeted nicely and were expecting a lovely evening. We ordered mussels and they were good but then the main course came. The food was over cooked and under seasoned. The presentation was poor and the pairings were hard to understand. We were interested in sharing a dessert but were told that it would cost $5.00 extra to do so so we declined. The bill was over $180 dollars with wine ($60.00 bottle) and with those prices we felt that we should have been able to share a dessert with no extra cost. All in all a disappointing evening that we would not repeat.
this a delghtful french bistro with wonderful food. these owners started about2 years agoand have been successful th e 2 wiatress are run offf their feet and theyreally need acouple of bus boys to keep the place running.. notwithstanding if you enjoy food this is the place to be
As a francophile, had high hopes for this French restaurant. Lived in Paris, and given the menu was very excited to try with my friends, also lovers of all things French. Our server was lovely, very attentive and described the menu well. The ambience overall was lacking, it was very loud and hard to hear my dining companions. The French Onion Soup lacked depth of flavor. The salad with tapenade, olives and artichoke hearts was tasty but not over the top. Moules Mariniere were salty, although all were opened. Canard a la orange was well received. Ballantine of Sole stuffed with crab was ok. Branzino was good. We ordered the Isle Flottante and the meringue lacked any kind of crispness or texture.
Our opinion overall was that the menu was pricey for the location, portion sizes and flavors of the food.
I am now a regular at Voila, both for lunch and dinner because their food is so good.
I love fish and the quality of their seafood is terrific, from the mussels to the pan fish.
Another favorite dish for dinner is their duck liver served on an egg, a great appetizer. Don't miss their mussels steamed in very tasty broth served with great bread for dunking.
I strongly recommend the souffle for dessert, a large puff of deliciousness.
My fav is the Grand Marnier. For lunch I love their salmon quiche and the amazing salad served with a poached egg on top. The restaurant is a neighborhood gem, and is now so popular it is hard to get a table in the evening. So go at lunch and sample their fabulous fare!!
Voila is a cute French bistro. The food is very good and typical of French cuisine. We shared the escargot and everyone had the French Onion soup. The scallops in puff pastry were perfectly browned and the sauce was outstanding. The duck confit was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The rack of lamb was tender and cooked to perfection. No room for dessert this time. A reason to return.
I'm always in search of a new truly "Classic" French restaurant to try since our favorite one in Scottsdale closed a few years ago... and Voila, we found one. This quaint little restaurant, hidden in a strip mall is a neighborhood gem. I made 7:30 Saturday dinner reservation through Open Table, when we arrived all the tables were filled and our table was waiting for us.
Loved the menu item choices. We started off with the Sliced Duck Foie Gras special, a dozen Escargot, and 6 open mussels with parsley butter and garlic. Entrees ordered: the Classic Steamed Mussels in garlic, shallots and white wine, Dover sole filet “Meuniere”, and Duck Leg Confit in Orange Sauce. My only comment of improvement would be the size portion of the Duck dish, maybe adding part of a breast in addition. All the food was delicious and perfectly cooked and perfectly presented. Can't wait to return and try the other menu items!
Atmosphere: very nice quaint Bistro feel, Service: excellent, Food: excellent.
We visited Voila Bistro for a New Year's Eve price fixe menu which was a choice of three different appetizers and different entrees and a dessert. It was excellent. The service pace was good, the wine list was great, food was great also. My wife had a duck pate and filet mignon and I had escargots and seafood cassoulette . The dessert was a chocolate based tart with a tasty cream sauce. Worked out well.
This is just a wonderful restaurant if you are looking for authentic French cuisine in a Bistro setting i.e. unpretentious. The new chef/owner (2 years now) is to be commended on the breadth of the menu and exceptional quality of the food - taste, presentation and portion. There may be several good French restaurants in the valley, this one is exceptional. I should mention that the service is excellent - knowledgeable, attentive, accommodating staff; properly timed service at the expressed preference of the guest. While not an inexpensive restaurant, it is definitely good value. If you intend to order a desert souffle (highly recommended), be sure to let the staff know upon ordering your entree as it requires 15 minutes to prepare.
Note: This is not a large restaurant; the seating is 'cozy' but arranged to afford both intimate conversation or engage with your fellow diners if you prefer. Highly recommended to include reservations well in advance.
As always, dinner was excellent. Entertaining friends from Texas who are not easily impressed, but they raved about the delicious dinner, the lovely staff and very much enjoyed the ambiance. Viola is a sure thing everytime !!! Congratulations on excellence!!!! and thank you
The onion soup was outstanding not just a lump of bread and a ton of stringy cheese as we're the branzino and duck. The wines we ordered we're quality, only slightly pricey. We would both skip the martinis; truthfully, they were over powerful. Should have started with just a glass of wine instead. Dessert and coffee we're just as good as we came to expect.
Great place for a special date, but seemingly, quite a value at lunch time.
Voila is the perfect choice for a special or any occasion, From the minute we walked in, you could feel how much the owners cared for their customers. We truly felt like we had been transported to Paris cafe. The service was very attentive but not overly so. The food was delicious and served piping hot rather than lingering in the kitchen. Between our entree and dessert, we were already planning our next visit. A entirely delightful overall experience.
Our server Carly was very attentive and enjoyable. The restaurant is very small and cosy. It was full of patrons as it had been reviewed in the Republic recently. We met the owner Segolene and she was lovely. The food was authentically French and delicious. We felt like we were in France. We look forward to our next visit!
First time there but certainly not the last as this wonderful restaurant went to the top of our list. We were seated immediately (with reservation) by a courteous greeter as we noticed how quaint and the warm atmosphere of the room, where the 15 tables were near occupied . The menu was a variety of french dishes measuring up to the ambiance of the room. The food was exquisite. Steak tartare for openers, mussels and a chicken dish, All splendid and attractively presented. Passed on desserts. Strongly recommended to enjoy a wonderful dining experience.
We celebrated our 30th anniversary at Voila and had a wonderful dinner. The menu under the new owners, a French chef and his wife, was authentic, and everything we ate was delicious. My husband had French onion soup and boneless rack of lamb. I had escargots and duck confit, and we shared a huge vanilla-raspberry souffle. We have had trouble finding good French onion soup in Paris, but this soup was excellent. The service by DeeAnna flawless, and she brought out the chef to give us some ideas as to where we can find good onion soup on our next visit to Paris. In the meantime, we will definitely be back to Voila.
My friend and I shared the mussels and then shared the duo of quiche. The potions were perfect and the bottle of wine recommended by the owner was the perfect accompaniment. Mussels were served with a delicious hot baguette which we used to soak up the scrumptious wine sauce. The pastry on the quiches was light and flakey and the filling delicious. The space is conducive to conversation and the white tablecloths contribute to the overall ambience of casual elegance. Will be back often. Excellent value
