V. Mertz is locally-owned, and we pride ourselves in offering artisan products and cheeses, organically-grown local produce and Wagyu beef, and sustainably-farmed and line-caught seafood. We believe that dining should be an event, and to this end Chef Jacob Newton has created a harmony of food and wine, culminating in our extravagant Tasting Menu.
Perfect for business or pleasure, V. Mertz is the premier fine-dining restaurant in Omaha.
It was great!
Amazing cuisine; fantastic atmosphere. Great for any special occasion.
V. Mertz is as good a restaurant as I have ever eaten in. Food and service were both outstanding. There is a good variety of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Skip the steakhouses. If you're in Omaha a meal at V. Mertz is a must.
NY strip steak and sauce with it were excellent. Fish was not. Fishy tasting and not unique. More choices for entrees would improve things and more flavorful or interesting appetizers are needed. Service and ambiance were great. Wine list is very overpriced and has few value options.
When we received the email to confirm our registration they noted that it was business casual dress. However they seated three people at the table next to us—2 girls and one guy who had tattoos all over exposed body parts of which there was a lot of exposure. The guy had on a tank top and the women had on tube tops . One of the gals was very very shaky and hungry and proceeded to pull out a packet of food out of her purse and eat it at the table .
Although our server was great, we were disappointed w/the food. We expected something exceptional & we didn’t feel the culinary experience was that.
My monkfish was not flavorful & his NY strip steak was a bit chewy. We did like our short rib on toast appetizer.
For the price, we probably would not dine there again. We loved everything else! My French 75 was perfect.
We love V. Mertz, however there was a wedding party going on and it really killed the ambience for our anniversary.
Very limited menu, 3 beef choices, 1 fish choice and 3 others. There were only 2 of us and the restaurant was only 25% full, but they brought the wrong entre to one of us. We had to wait while they quickly cooked the correct entre but it seemed over-cooked.
Nice restaurant for a special evening out. The food was good, not superb, and the service was polite and attentive. Personally, I don't think it's worth the price, but it was a nice experience.
V. Mertz presents a consistently exceptional dining experience. It was our first choice for our family birthday celebration for this very reason. We celebrated my 95 yr. old grandfather's birthday with a small familial crew. He found the noise level totally tolerable and the nourishment sublime. The staff was courteous, thorough, helpful, knowledgeable, and attentive. The menu was beautiful, detailed, and sophisticated, the drinks perfectly crafted and the presentation deliciously lovely. We will keep coming back!
It has an upscale wine cellar ambiance. Very knowledgeable staff.
Still, after all these years, the best thing about V. Mertz is the lighting: one 12V headlight per table, all lovingly aimed by Cedric Hartman years ago. And we got the four top in the corner—the best seat in the house, especially for the hearing challenged. We had a variety of small and large plates and all suffered a lack of contrasts. Pickled cabbage provided some bite but no brightness. A single morel graced a chicken rollade and a sticky brown sauce cloaked a slab of tile fish. Like many restaurants these days, the color green did not appear; nor was there anything orange poking around in the bottom of the dish though there was an abundance of ingredients including begonia flower. It always seems that something you would like is paired with something you wouldn't like. I would like to see what these dishes would look like if there was a firmer sense of editorial discretion in play. Lighting is important but it should never outshine the food.
Perfect date night spot. My fiancé and I will be back, and look forward to what will be on the menu next.
Everything about V. Mertz was absolutely top notch. The Staff was extremely knowledgeable and truly seem to love what they do. The food was incredible in ways that are hard to put into words. I couldn’t possibly recommend this restaurant more highly.
What can I say...6 degrees of separation...we did the tasting menu for April Fools Day...YES we were fooled on so many levels..so many questions and such great food and drink!
Impeccable V Mertz service...Dylan and Matthew thank you...loved everything!
Service was very slow. Food was good, but didn’t justify the high price.
Wonderful experience. My husband had the roasted bone marrow, and it was under cooked so was more fatty that we would have liked. Very eclectic menu, so if you are a meat and potatoes person, you may not like it. WE DID
Wonderful! Fabulous! Don't miss this 'One of the best' of Omaha!
This is a fabulous spot with interesting creative food. Very European in atmosphere and just lovely with wonderful service. The only drawback is that the chairs are very uncomfortable for a long sit and it’s a leisurely dining experience. We spent 2 hours there and my back felt it. The halibut was worth it though!
We have eaten in your restaurant on a few occasions over the years. That is certainly an important reason for our return. We'll be back. There was a bit of a hiccup in our most recent experience. We were seated in unfortunate proximity to a person with a great deal to say and who seemed to be in hopes that entire city of Omaha would hear his tales of world travel, etc. At least three couples asked to be reseated at some greater distance from this font of knowledge and were quickly accommodated. My wife and I finally asked if we could have our coffee and dessert in some more peaceful environs. Our request was quickly and graciously granted. You have a great restaurant, excellent food, and fine employees. Check your video records for Saturday evening at around 7:00 pm and listen for that person who really ought to do his dining in a much larger arena. Thanks for reading and we look forward to seeing you again.
Food was on point!
Always an enjoyable experience at V-Mertz. David never fails to take excellent care of us. Thank you.
The ambience was cozy and romantic surpassed only by the quality of service and attention from the staff. Extraordinaire is a word to describe how delectable was the food. Every dish was more amazing than the last. The crab salad was an unbelievable combination of flavors. Foie gras was great. The trout unlike any combination of flavors...kumquats added nice contrast. Oh I dream of my next trip to Omaha to visit V. Mertz. My only complaint was the volume of others conversations. In a small space, sound carries. Overall excellent experience.
Apparently the Chef is more concerned with JMes Beard ratings that he is with providing a menu that includes choices for everyone. No green salad. No potato choices. Limited entree choices. What choice would there be for children: kale greens, grilled cabbage salad. This menu is not appropriate for a midwestern restaurant. The bar could not make a Bloody Mary or a Margarita. That was ridiculous
VMertz has the best service and environment for find dining in Omaha. The food is innovative and delicious and the staff are professional and knowledgeable about food and wine. This is my favorite place in the city for a dinner date or a quiet evening alone.
I only marked service as lower due to an order of caviar never making it to us. Being gluten free also seems to impact the dishes pretty heavily as far as presentation, but was still delicious. Our server was very friendly and prompt on everything else.
Had a wonderful evening for my wife and myself. Thank you to the Chefs and staff at V.Mertz. Always the best dining experience.
We did the Tasting Menu and it was absolutely amazing. Truly enjoyed the wine pairing with it and having each wine and course explained.
Wonderful staff, all were very attentive and helpful
V. Mertz is an excellent restaurant -- well trained wait staff and bar tenders, cozy and romantic ambiance in a cool location within the Old Market Passageway, and delicious food from a creative menu. Because of its high price, I would recommend dining there on only the most special of occasions.
Amazing place!the food is awesome, service is great, it never ceases to impress!
Amazing! We adore V. Mertz! Every time we go it’s fabulous, from the French Martini to the charcuterie to the wine and the main entrees. The service is exemplary and the atmosphere sublime! I had the ocean trout and it was amazing! It reminded me of salmon and was very flavorful. Lovely desserts and after-dinner drinks. It is, and always will be, one of our very favorite spots in Omaha.
This was our first time at V Mertz and will not be our last! We were seated right away when we arrived and we greeted promptly by our waitress. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and gave us her recommendations which did not disappoint. For our main dishes I had the Waygu New York strip which was the best cut of meat I have ever had! She had the pork duet which she loved and could say enoug good things about it! We will dine again with VMertz in the future!
Great atmosphere and food. It is a little bit more expensive but not outrageous by any means. It's a nice restaurant so its expected that the food isn't "cheap." Great location as well! Perfect for a date. Took my boyfriend when he came to town for Valentines Day.
V. Mertz was truly a wonderful dining experience. From the minute we arrived till we left, everything was great. I had the my strip paired with a red reccomend by the waiter (who was very knowledgeable about everything from drinks to food).
Always great food, never been disappointed. Can get a bit spendy but you get what you pay for too.
Love to visit! Knowledgeable and helpful!
The made my 26th birthday a REALLY SPECIAL day. I would go there anytime again.
Our group of 6 started with meat and cheese plates. They were beautiful and tasty. I had a small foie gras for dinner because I ate too much cheese. My dinner mates had duck breast, chicken, smoked mushroom popovers and steak. Everyone comments the food was excellent. Ask for wine suggestions-we had Chablis and Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
