We return every year to Vivo and it does not disappoint. My husband proposed to me there on Valentines Day. Every year they remember us they either have a special gift for us or a private room. It is the most touching and remarkable service we have ever had. The food changes up and stays modern yet classic without being tiresome and we have never had the same thing twice...well the bread and arugula salad we get every time. They make a different butter spread every night like artichoke basil last year it was garlic sun-dried tomatoes. Every server, manager food runner, and staff are so pleasant and truly want to make everyone happy. Best service in Hartford for sure.
We went there for New Years Eve. It was not our 1st choice but it will be in the future. Our waitress, Gizelle was excellent. She was attentive, knowledgeable and very nice. The food was tasty and cooked to order. Finally streak cooked rare the way I like it. The cocktails were perfect. The only downside was it was little drafty and bright.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Vivo while staying at the Marriott Hotel. The food was delicious, and the service was exceptional. Because the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, the decor has to suit all purposes; our only suggestion would be to dim the lights more for the evening.
Our waitress Winsome provided amazing service and was very friendly, the food was cooked to perfection and tasted delicious and the ambiance was perfect for a nice date night. I must say the calamari was the best I have had in years and I can't wait to stop in again after work some time! Thank you for a nice night out.
Went for a Sunday Brunch - the food was fine, the $18 buffet offering not much more than you'd find at a hotel's free continental breakfast, although they have a crispy French Toast that was pretty darn good.
Unfortunately the service was poor, at best - and it took an hour to be served two omelets, an order of French Toast and an order of pancakes. The waitress took forever to take our order, and it seemed like she would disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time. By the time our food came, the restaurant had mostly emptied out - not sure why our order took so long to make. The server was not apologetic in the least. Then, after running the credit card, she returned to the table saying that there was a mistake on the original receipt she gave us, so she added the $18 buffet charge to the card. One would think that proper protocol would have been to come back to the table, explain that the original check was wrong, confirm that the new amount could be charged to the card, and then - after customer consent - run the card at the new amount. When we explained to the waitress that this would have been the preferred method, she just smiled and walked away.
The location was convenient forus while being in Hartford. Seating was immediate. They did not however acknowledge our check in with the reservation service, causing "Open Table" to email us asking why we did not honor our reservation.
The server was pleasant but was often delayed and table visits were sporadic (though there were only about 30% of the tables fulled on a Saturday at 6:30 p.m.) They only seemed to have 2 wait staff working the floor.
The arugula, pear and pecan salad was great but the hot dishes were bland and underseasoned. The veal meatballs were moist but flavorless. The demiglaze on the gorgonzola covered sirloin drew all the flavor from the beef. It was fully un-salted and un seasoned. The Signature Old World Bolognese was also very bland and unsalted.
Upon asking to pack our entree left-overs, we were given our check without being asked if we wanted dessert, coffee, or after dinner drinks (even though there is a dessert menu) so we paid and pursued dessert elsewhere.
At a $$$ price point, the meal was a let down. Adequate seasoning did not present itself in our entrees or hot appetizers. The absence of salt may be good for my blood pressure, but not my taste buds. Applying table salt only solved the surface of the food, not the internal eating experience.
I would recommend them tasting what they serve to discern the need for flavor and seasoning. I would go to 2.5 Stars but not 3 for this restaurant.
As in the past, I had a great experience at Vivo for restaurant week. I had a tasty and fresh salad to start, perfectly cooked salmon for the main course, and a delicious bread pudding with sour cherries for dessert (I hope they add it to the regular dessert menu). The service was friendly and prompt. I highly recommend Vivo.
My girlfriends and I came for restaurant week and were quite disappointed. The lobster fritter appetizer was not cooked inside for the 3 of us that ordered it. It was mucky and gummy. The same can be said for the gnocchi accompanying our short ribs. It was undercooked and very elastic and mucky. The short ribs were tasty but the portion was quite small and there were supposed to be mushrooms accompanying it but there were none in our portions. Perhaps this was a one-off situation but I am not inclined to come again given the other option sin the area that have suited us well.
We went during Hartford Restaurant week to try out their food. I got the arugula salad and my bf got the lobster fritters. He did not like the fritters at all, fortunately the waitress let him choice another appetizer - the salmon cake- which was a Lot better. For entrees, I got the braised short ribs and he got the salmon. The gnocchi with the short run dish was totally uncooked and did not taste good. The meat itself was cooked well. The salmon dish was good. For dessert we had the bread pudding and the expresso pudding. Tasted decent. Overall it was a little bit of a let down for somewhere that is more towards fine dinning.
The evening started with a warm and friendly greeting from the host. We were escorted to our table and our server met us for our drink order. She returned promptly with cocktails that were very well done (a good pour).
Our appetisers came. The Blackened Avocado. Salmon cake with smoke chili remoulade was fantastic! The Lobster Fritter was adequate and the reason I did not give this 5 stars.
The entrees did not disappoint! The braised short ribs with gnocchi's and the veal ricotta meatballs over pappardelle were both excellent. The dinner was finished with a great cinnamon roll bread pudding. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience and would highly recommend it to others.
The meals were disappointing. Sword fish was dry as was pork chop. The server was very good but that could not overcome the noisy atmosphere or the long wait for meals. We just wanted the experience to be over. The menu prices are not inexpensive either which added insult to injury. This restaurant services the Marriot Hotel and attached Convention Center and should be avoided if events are going on and Vivos is busy
Made reservation for 6:15. Got there on time, restaurant was sparsely attended. Were told it would be a few minutes and were directed to the bar. Got drinks, after 1 minutes or so someone showed us to a table. Waitress was friendly enough, but entire evening was dreadfully slow, given she few customers they had at the time. Food was just ok, not unlike anything we could have ordered at say, Olive Garden. We went to check it out during Hartford Restaurant Week...doubt we will be back. Kind of sad.
The restaurant is beautiful; an excellent atmosphere. The food was quite delicious as well. My biggest problem was the atrocious service. Our reservation for 2 on Valentine's Day was for 8:15. It took over 15 minutes for our waiter to even reach our table. Our drinks came another 10 minutes after that. The service throughout the night was so slow that we did not leave until 10:30, and the restaurant was not busy.
The food took over an hour to come out, did not expect that. Me and my spouse ordered the same thing so I do not know what happened. The waiter kept saying sorry, we knew it wasn't his fault but it was pretty rodiculous considering the fact that the restaurant was not busy at all.
I was not really impressed! The food and portion sizes were average, yet the price was not. The service was also disappointing. Our appetizers arrived before the bread, and drinks took quite some time. The ambiance was okay but there were many bulbs that were on the verge of blowing out, so the restaurant had a constantly flickering, strobe light effect.
