Vivo, located in Chicago, Illinois, offers a breathtaking atmosphere to enjoy traditional Italian favorites. The dcor consists of brick walls, white tablecloths and the light noise in the dining room. For those looking for a venue for an event, Vivo provides private dining opportunities, as well as catering for weddings and rehearsals. Another unique fixture is Table 70, which is perched over the rest of the dining room for an intimate and romantic setting.
The lunch menu at Vivo consists of many types of pasta and sandwiches, including the popular eggplant sandwich with Buffalo mozzarella and a tomato basil sauce. Dinner is a more decadent menu, where you can enjoy New Zealand rack of lamb or the osso buco, which is a braised veal shank with mashed horseradish.

Vivo - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
The food and service was very good. We did wait a bit for our waiter , who seemed to be more than a waiter, but he said they were having wifi issues and he more than made up for it. We had the beef carpaccio and beet carpaccio. They were very good. My husband said the beef just melted in your mouth. The beet was equally good with a great sales on top of both which made it a bit more food than I expected. He had the osso bucco and I had the eggplant Parmesan. It was very good, although I would have liked it to be a little less breaded and a little crisper but that's just me. I couldn't eat it all so had it boxed up to take home then forgot it....really ticked me off. I woke up wanting it! We shared the tiramisu and it was also very good. We took the waiters recommendation on wine and was not disappointed. Would have given the atmosphere a higher rating but it was extremely hot in the restaurant that night. Overall I would recommend it and would go back, this was our second but not last visit.
Excellent food, excellent drinks and excellent wine! The oil/cheese they bring out with bread was AMAZING! I would have bought a bottle of it if I could. We had never heard of this restaurant and were so happy we found it! We ate outside and it was bustling and awesome and fun! I would highly recommend Vivo's! We will be bringing other friends back there! :)
I dined at Vivo after reading the positive comments by previous goers. And I, too, share in the enthusiasm for this restaurant.
It was uncommonly perfect weather on the evening I dined, and so I enjoyed a lovely table on the street. The joyous atmosphere of Randolph Street only added to the restaurant's well-designed decor.
The food was both reasonably priced and reasonably seasoned. In addition to ordering some menu staples, I choose one of the specials of the evening -- an expertly-prepared ravioli. Delicious.
I would be remiss not to share that all bottles of wine are 50 percent off on Thursdays (as of the writing of this review). Unlike other restaurants, this special is not intended to distract from bland food. On the contrary, the wine special only made a lovely dinner that much more enjoyable.
We wanted to eat at a nice place in the city with some friends from out of state. There are many choices but I was looking for an Italian restaurant with excellent quality and atmosphere that wouldn't require I take out a second mortgage to pay the bill.
I chose Vivo because I had been there before and was familiar with everything I needed for a nice meal that wouldn't disappoint friends.
Everyone was pleased with the quality, service, and price. I was not disappointed that I chose this restaurant out of the hundreds available in the city.
I recently dined at Vivo on Sunday night with friends for a dinner club and was very disappointed by the service. I had to ask our server to come and read us the specials because she was not attentive to our 7 top. The food was excellent but the service was sub par and I have always had great service at vivo. I take clients here and friend and recommend this establishment because of the unique dining experience and fantastic food but the service really ruined my love for Vivo. Also, we were nearly the only table there on a Sunday night.
While the food was the reason for going to Vivo and the service was also very good, the noise level and seating so close to "strangers" was the most pleasant for just 2 people trying to chat in a private manner. From that point of view not the best choice on my part !!
Vivo was recommended by a friend and we went for our anniversary. Had 6pm reservations, but we were running a little late due to bad traffic and weather. I called to let them know, and the hostess said, "No problem." It wasn't; we were seated right away. Our server, Mike, was terrific. All of his recommendations, from the wine to dessert, were spot on. We were happy to hear the bottled wine was 50% off on Thursdays. Crab cakes to start were great (had a coupon for an appetizer). My snapper was fresh and deliciously prepared. My husband enjoyed his tuna. Sides were yummy. We especially appreciated that the food came to us hot. Dessert was on the house for our anniversary. (Thanks again!) An outstanding, romantic dinner in a cozy, relaxing place, with the best service that we've had in some time. And, a great value. We'll be back!!
I booked my wedding in October 2016 and figured I should try the food. Let's say I can't wait for my wedding because I know my guest would love the delicious food, wonderful service and the beautiful brick building. Sheena, event coordinator is a pleasure to work with And making wedding planning so much easier. She accommodating my needs and emails response are quick. I will be going back before and after the wedding.
What can I say about Vivo that hasn't already been said in the last 25 years?? From the moment we walked in you could tell from the vibe that our experience was going to be a good one. The music had a chill groove to it, the hostess greeted us with a huge smile, and so by the time we were seated...immediately upon our arrival...we already found ourselves unwinding from a long day at work. We started off with a beef carpaccio...a must have at Vivo...and then our server Parker gave us a great tutorial on the Brunello's of Tuscany before steering us towards what turned out to be a fantastic bottle (a second was eventually necessary). I had the fresh fish...pistachio crusted Ono in a Romesco sauce...which was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection, while my guest had the Gnocchi. The house specialty of Vivo, the gnocchi is what I demand all of my first time guests order as it's combination of Parmesan, truffle and cream make this dish an addiction!! We finished off with Tiramisu...obviously...and a Limoncello for both of us! Overall the service was excellent, the food was spot on...as always...and the ambiance made us feel cool and comfortable...just like we should at the original hot spot on Randolph street!!
This is my third time coming to Vivo and my first in the winter. I prefer the summer drink selection to the winter one, but the food is always amazing. I brought colleagues this time -- one ordered the pork chop (which was enormous) and the other got the ravioli. I got the gnocchi which is so rich and delicious, I can't be tempted to try anything else. Vivo is always incredible.
The service and atmosphere is like nothing I've ever been., it was simply amazing!
Service - from coming in to leaving you there was a warm hello and good bye, which is very nice because you feel like they mean it.
The service was spot on, drinks came in a timely fashion. When you order your food sometimes there's that awkward time when you wonder when the foods coming and you start getting really hungry. With the timing between the appetizers and the food coming out was just perfect. Vivo has it figured out!
Food- the portions are above average, so you won't be leaving there on an empty stomach. The presentation of the food was awesome, something out of a food magazine.
Overall- place is great, if you haven't been there, go there!
