It was definitely enjoyable. How ever we were all vegetarians found a things to order. Being that there’s no protein (when we order without meat) the portion sizes were way too small, and yet still priced as if expensive cuts of meat were eaten. I’ve always wondered why more restaurants do not have a separate vegetarian menu that had portions /prices reflecting lack of meat. Overall, our service (thanks Cameron ) was the best! He was an attentive, knowledgeable and friendly & smiling individual.
Vivere is one of our favorite spots. The kitchen is outstanding. But its the way you are treated from the moment you arrive, through the meal, to departure, that sets it apart. The wine list may be one of the most expansive in town, put yourself in the hands of the staff, tell them your price point, and you will have a great experience.
We had tickets to Hamilton and wanted a restaurant close to the theater. I hadn't eaten here in many years so read the reviews beforehand. Most mentioned that while the staff were able to get theatergoers out in plenty of time, the food was cold.
I'm not a fan of food that is too hot for obvious reasons, but my pasta wasn't even what one might call lukewarm. I assumed restaurant management would have read previous reviews and corrected it after multiple complaints. Silly me!
Vivere always has innovative presentations and notable selections. I always think of Vivere for special occasions. The servers create a lot of energy around the dining experience and always provide helpful suggestions. The servers create a welcoming atmosphere.
I have been a frequent flyer at The Italian Village for almost 30 years. Most often I eat at Viviere, in that it is the menu I prefer. This last experience was one of my best -- superb food, great ambiance and excellent service. The risotto and creme brulee rocked!

Knew things might be less than optimal when the waiter suggested we order as soon as possible, as it "gets crazy" before the show. Sommelier was very helpful, unfortunately did not make up for all the main entrees being served cold. Apparantly our food was ready early but delivered late. Too many other options for dining...Vivere is a pass.
I like this restaurant so much better than the upstairs Italian Village. It is conversation-friendly and food is always good. A bit on the pricey side but worth it for that special occasion or important business meeting. I love that they also offer half order options. One of the nicest restaurants in the loop!
Very disappointed. Was not charmed last time a few years ago, but it is close to theater and it had been several years. The food was cold. The special lasagna was flavorless and gummy. The special wine they were pushing was bitter. At this point I guess it is for tourists and diners who have something to go on to after dinner. There are just so many better restaurants in Chicago.
First off, the food was great. The chef was accommodating to an allergy, but still executed a great dish.
The staff however, did not create a welcoming experience. We walked in to check our coats, and the hostess openly berated the check staff brashly. Our waiter also did not attend to us very often, and when he did, not only did he seem to have no knowledge of the menu, he was almost unwilling to check with chef about ingredients.
Also, the wait staff flipped our dessert on the table, and left. It took another 5 minutes for someone to appear, clean up the mess (and by clean, our waiter picked up the dessert, and put a napkin over the soiled spot on the table), and then another 5 or so to replace the dessert. There was no comp and barely an apology.
Great food, poor service.
Wonderful meal and very close to our theater, although service became inattentive as we were nearing the end of our meal. They knew we were going to the theater, but seemed to think that they only needed to leave us 1 minute to get there and get to our seats. Otherwise great!
I have had some excellent food and service at Vivere, but this visit was at best unfortunate. I had tickets for the opera and was assured by the server that there was enough time for the special theater menu. Service was so slow that the second and main course arrived almost an hour after I arrived at the restaurant, and I therefore did not have time to finish what I had ordered.
We came here to celebrate our engagement with friends & we had the most incredible experience. Our server was just wonderful & the food was delicious. We were having such a great time & not truly paying attention to anything else & until the day we realized we did not tip as well as our server deserved & feel terrible about it. He was an older man working at Vivere on Friday night dec 1st, had curly hair. He was the greatest & truly deserved more than we gave. I appreciate your service & thank you for making our experience memorable. I wish we could make up for our lack of tip but we will be back & asking for you next time!
How much time do you have? No really, how much time? Because this meal was interminably long. Maybe because we said we weren't in a rush to go to a play on a Saturday night, but the dinner took much longer than it should have. The staff was attentive and apologetic for the wait, but it was 45 minutes before we got the appetizers (a salad and a crab cake that should have been hot and was not). We worried that the entrees would come too soon. But not to worry. After another long wait, the entrees were disappointing (fish was not quite hot; steak was undercooked).
Again, the staff was accommodating and offered free items, and comped the items that were real problems, but the kitchen clearly had some issues. Perhaps we surprised them by being customers that ordered standard items off the menu.
