the only thing worth while was the reduced rate for parking and the proximity to the theater.
The waiter was load and overbearing, the salad, main course was over salted, and was not worth the price. This was the least enjoyable visit to the theater loop dining we have ever had.
Wonderful food, incredible wine list, excellent service. We'll be back!
Vivere provided the perfect spot for our pre-theater dinner. Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Service was outstanding and food great as well. We look forward to returning.
The menu was so diverse and sophisticated, it was difficult to make a choice. Everything looked great. However, our very professional server, Paul, was able to guide us to his best recommendations for each of the four different courses, each one of which was spectacular! The truffles with mushrooms appetizer was so savory. My halibut was cooked perfectly, with a wonderful side salad. My wife’s pasta with mushrooms was so good that I took it from her The crème brûlée appetizer was to die for. I can’t wait to go back!
Excellent service and the food was good.
The gnocchi alone is worth dining in this friendly, customer service oriented restaurant. Our waiter kept tabs on the clock to ensure we had time to walk to the theater while still offering us a relaxed, enjoyable meal. Portion sizes of the delicious dishes were just right for people with good appetites, perfect for sharing (and they split in the kitchen!) for those who like a smaller portion. There were so many excellent dessert options that we ordered more than we could possibly finish! We'll be back soon and highly recommend Vivere for a fun theater district dinner.
Best service ever. Amazing food. Unique, but commonly known recipes.
The one thing not on the above list: the extraordinary cuisine: fresh, very creative, inspired.
This place is a chef's dream!
Excellent pre-theater menu. Portion sizes were perfect for dinner before show. Delicious carmalized onion polenta with airline chicken
This was our third time here - great every time. Highly recommend the veal piccata and chicken saltimboca. They are great when you have a show or concert to attend and make sure you are done on time.
Went before theater and was greeted warmly by name. Waiter was attentive and food was wonderful. I had a ravioli that was the best I have even had another in our group had a lamb fettuccine while a third had a seafood pasta. All of us agreed each was delicious
It was phenomenal. Not too over welding but very homey feeling and everyone was so nice. Definitely recommend to friends and family. Price was fair too. And dessert blew me and my fiancé away!!
They did a great job of serving us before going to a show, moving things along, getting us out in time. We sat upstairs and had a nice view of the restaurant and the atmosphere was nice and quiet. I ordered chicken (I never order chicken in restaurants, so shame on me) and it was very dry. My SO ordered scallops and they were very good. I had gnocchi as a first course and it was delicious. The olive oil for the bread was good and flavorful, but still would have liked some mixers with it (parm, pepper, etc). So all in all, it was a good experience, but not great.
Had a great meal and wonderful wine . Will return for sure.
The food was excellent. The service was very attentative and the ambiance was very warm. We had a great night.
I took my fiancée for Valentine's Day dinner before going to the theatre. Great choice!
The ambiance, the service, and the food were wonderful.
We were able to relax, enjoy the moment and a delicious meal before the show.
I only wish the portions would have been a little bigger, but overall it was excellent.
Definitely coming back.
The grilled calamari salad and the buffalo cheese appetizer were both very good. Service was excellent as we were going to the theater after dinner and they were very prompt.
Lunch during restaurant week to check out the restaurant since I'd only been once before. While I was disappointed in the salad (Insalata della Casa) I ordered as an appetizer (it was bland and the lettuce was meh), I was more upset at the calamari appetizer (which we ordered separately from the RW menu). Quite simply, it was flavorless. The best part of that dish was the arugula and it was served over.
HOWEVER, both the ravioli my guest had, and the salmon I had were TO DIE FOR. Seriously, the ravioli had so much flavor and the salmon was PERFECTLY cooked and seasoned well. The carrot puree it was served with was delicious as well and I don't even like carrots.
They redeemed themselves with the service (we had a great waiter) and the CREME BRULEE.
THey ran out of cheesecake and gave us the best dessert ever instead. Not only was it filling, it was as creamy and flavorful as creme brulee should be. My take? Skip the apps, but definitely do dessert!
A wonderful experience. We went during Restaurant Week. The wait staff at Vivere is terrific. Very attentive without being overbearing. I know the wine list is extensive. I told our waiter the city, kind of wine, and a price zone. He came back with a great wine and at an affordable price. Both our dinners were excellent and the dessert was outstanding.
Food is exceptional and our waiter was 110% for us. His recommendations were spot on!
Our evening at Vivere was very good. Food was quite good. This is a terrific spot for pre-theater dining if you are going to see Hamilton at the CIBC Theater.
Great spot to eat before or after a show at CIBC theater. Had an excellent 3 course meal during restaurant week. All items in our party of 4 were delicious. Our waiter was a little snooty but the overall service was good. Great value.
Our server was great but the food was blah. The ravioli was served luke warm . A very disappointing experience
Food was wonderful. One person at the table ordered from the restaurant week menu and the others ordered off of the regular one and every dish was great. Will definitely recommend to others traveling to Chicago.
Dinner before Hamilton! Very good about getting us out for the show without the dinner feeling rushed.
IV is a gem, hidden in plain sight. I've eaten at the other two, but this was 1st time at Vivere. We appreciated the refined ambiance and service. We definitely would return for future occasions. The cingale lassagna was amazing. Most everyone else took advantage of the 'Restauant Week' prix fixed and selected the salmon. Service was attentive and friendly. It was lunch so we didn't sample any wines.
Staff was courteous, service was excellent and food was first class. Thoroughly enjoyed our night out.
Great proximity to theatre!
Loved eating at the oldest Italian restaurant in Chicago- great food before seeing Hamilton!
Fantastic from start to finish. As I mentioned it was our Anniversary, we where seated at one of the best tables. Service is Impeccable, Food is Awesome. Although I am fairly knowledgeable Italian wine the wine list was so extensive I was overwhelmed. I asked our waiter for a recommendation and he was spot on. A little expensive but totally worth it.
Enjoyed the atomosphere! Staff was friendly and sommelier was excellent in pointing out great wine. Food was amazing and beautifully presented!
Superb dining experience. Touches all the senses. Felt totally taken care of.
It was definitely enjoyable. How ever we were all vegetarians found a things to order. Being that there’s no protein (when we order without meat) the portion sizes were way too small, and yet still priced as if expensive cuts of meat were eaten. I’ve always wondered why more restaurants do not have a separate vegetarian menu that had portions /prices reflecting lack of meat. Overall, our service (thanks Cameron ) was the best! He was an attentive, knowledgeable and friendly & smiling individual.
Excellent food. Attentive service. Great ambiance. Fast service to make sure we made our show.
Vivere is one of our favorite spots. The kitchen is outstanding. But its the way you are treated from the moment you arrive, through the meal, to departure, that sets it apart. The wine list may be one of the most expansive in town, put yourself in the hands of the staff, tell them your price point, and you will have a great experience.
Food was delicious and waiter was very accommodating and helpful. Prices were a little high, but it’s worth it for a special occasion.
The restaurant was beautiful inside, and the wine list was phenomenal . The food itself was good but not amazing. It sounded like their primary business is pre theater crowds.
We had tickets to Hamilton and wanted a restaurant close to the theater. I hadn't eaten here in many years so read the reviews beforehand. Most mentioned that while the staff were able to get theatergoers out in plenty of time, the food was cold.
I'm not a fan of food that is too hot for obvious reasons, but my pasta wasn't even what one might call lukewarm. I assumed restaurant management would have read previous reviews and corrected it after multiple complaints. Silly me!
