Vivere continues to be a Chicago landmark of contemporary Italian cuisine. Operated by the Capitanini family , Vivere has won numerous awards ranging from "Best New Restaurant" Esquire Magazine, DiRona Award , Wine Spectator and Ultimate Distinction by Wine Enthusiast. The Chef incorporates innovative dishes from his yearly travels to the various regions of Italy. A unique tasting menu in addition to the seasonal menu displays the skill and progressive nature of the restaurant. Vivere's swank design, conceptualized by acclaimed designer Jordan Mozer, applies contemporary twists to Baroque designs that are draped in plush velvets and warmed by rich gold tones. Interior Design Magazine has given Vivere its highest honor for restaurant design. Vivere's immense cellar, complete with 45,000 bottles, affords the guest with endless options with the assistance of its Wine Director. The intimate bar makes a great place to enjoy a glass of champagne or a signature drink and antipasti.

Vivere Ratings and Reviews
How much time do you have? No really, how much time? Because this meal was interminably long. Maybe because we said we weren't in a rush to go to a play on a Saturday night, but the dinner took much longer than it should have. The staff was attentive and apologetic for the wait, but it was 45 minutes before we got the appetizers (a salad and a crab cake that should have been hot and was not). We worried that the entrees would come too soon. But not to worry. After another long wait, the entrees were disappointing (fish was not quite hot; steak was undercooked).
Again, the staff was accommodating and offered free items, and comped the items that were real problems, but the kitchen clearly had some issues. Perhaps we surprised them by being customers that ordered standard items off the menu.
An old favorite of ours, Vivere continues to set the standard for exceptional Northern Italian cuisine in a relaxed settting with outstanding service. Top it off with one of Chicago’s most extensive wine lists and it is obvious why the Capitanini family (now run by the granddaughter of the founder, Alfredo) is now celebrating their Ninetieth anniversary! A hint: Our must have meal - veal Marsala!
The menu and food were fantastic. Loved the gnocchi. Also the wine list is spectacular and the wine steward led us to a terrific choice. Our table was in a bit of a high traffic area and that meant it was a bit noisier than I would like.
Vivere is one of our top dining choices when catching a show downtown. The food is fantastic and prices reasonable for a higher-end Italian restaurant. We'll likely try the other two restaurants in the Italian Village complex first, but we'll definitely be back here soon.
Fun place with quirky ambiance that gives that dr Seuss eats here. Not in a negative way ... just a feeling of energy and odd decorations.
The food was good .. not great but still work dining there.
Our waiter, Jake, was informative, not in your face and made the meal a treat !!
My wife and I hit this place up before going to seeing the Hamilton show at the theater right down the street. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Although its a bit expensive overall, its well worth it for some amazing food. Also, the waiter asked if we were going to the show and was very conscious of the time to make sure we made it before the first act. Overall, it was a great experience and we are already talking about going back!
Perfect pre-theatre spot. Hubs had the prix-fixe menu. He said best Caesar salad, ever. I had the fantastic buffalo mozzarella salad, and the best pasta dish I have ever eaten. A cheese, mushroom, garlic cream plate of heaven. Good drinks, prompt friendly service and a yummy chocolate torte comped for our anniversary. Went down to the darling basement level restaurant bar for a drink afterward. A busier atmosphere with a more casual crowd, but the twinkling Italian murals were something to be seen.
Vivere is one of three restaurants in the Italian Village building. Our meal at Vivere was one of the best formal dining experiences we have ever had. With a new chef (Ozzy Almoletti) and a new Sommelier (Jared), the experience was absolutley incredible. Our table enjoyed a variety f dishes form the succulent Veal Chop to outstanding scallops and the wine recommended complimented all dishes beautifully.
Don't miss this incredible (revitalized) formal Italian cuisine and primo wine cellar experience!
I dined alone at Vivere before a show and was there for a very brief time so I can't give a detailed review. It seemed a nice place, big and busy and used to processing large numbers of diners quickly, which is fine for a pre-theatre dinner. I had a delightful Bellini and a very good dish of pasta with seafood in a slightly spicy tomato and pepper sauce . I would have liked a green salad with it but their inflexible menu structure seemingly could not accommodate that which was a shame. Otherwise it was fine. I was in and out quickly and the service was speedy and attentive enough.
My husband & I had not been to Vivere for years. We live in the West Loop and have MANY choices for an evening out.
We were amazed that the restaurant looks so fresh after so many years! We felt very welcome, waiter has been there for 28 years & was a delight.
The food was beautifully presented & delicious! The scallops were cooked perfectly! We enjoyed the restaurant, would absolutely recommend it & plan to return again soon.
Good food and friendly service. Everyone who talked with us from the servers, bartenders, greeters etc. were over the top friendly, helpful and nice. Exceptional service. I felt it was a bit over priced for what you got. I would not recommend as a first choice, but it's a nice solid place to go when you absolutely want service to be seamless.
Had dinner before going to theater to see Hamilton -- location is ideal for this. Also enjoyed the theater pre fixe menu. Also noted a birthday in the reservation, and the staff made it very special! Food is divine, drinks were fabulous. I would highly recommend.
