5 Star Experience
My wife and I went to Vivace to celebrate an anniversary. We've eaten there several times, but it had been a while. They've really upped their game with the food and service. We liked their tasting menus giving you the chance to experiment. The food was really good and not something you'd ever see in a normal American Italian restaurant. This was a Northern Italian experience. Adam, our waiter, was very smooth and professional. He showed me a wine tasting trick I'd never seen. Overall, a terrific evening in a beautiful setting. We'll be back soon.
My friend and I were staying at the PH Aviara for a girls' weekend getaway, and we made a reservation at the Vivace restaurant. Our server, Marshall, was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive - he created a truly masterful wine pairing for our tasting menu, and he also steered us towards some fantastic dishes (the spring asparagus appetizer dish was a revelation, and I'm still thinking about the apple cider sorbet I had with dessert!). We had a wonderful dinner, and I'm already thinking of scheduling another weekend getaway to go back.
We are all locals who had “forgotten” about Vivace. Or perhaps going out to dinner at a high-end resort that caters to visitors isn’t what first comes to mind when thinking of a local restaurant to go to. But when a recently retired chef friend decided to move out of SoCal, we decided to take him to Vivace, as he had raved about it in years past. It did not disappoint. Each dish in each of the courses was original/unique, wonderfully presented, and a delight to the palate. It was fabulous. The service was excellent, our waiter showcasing deep knowledge of the menu without being pretentious or stuffy. And while the beautiful setting at the Park Hyatt Aviara was expected, the complementary valet parking, was a welcome surprise.
For $59 each, we were given our choice of any one of the appetizers, a choice of any of the pastas or entrees, and a dessert. For $69, we could get an app, a pasta, an entree (both slightly smaller portions than in the $59 offering) and dessert. While far from inexpensive, each of us felt the meal was entirely worth the cost. If we had any criticism, it was that the prices on the wines struck us as being a bit high.
While Vivace will not be one of my frequent choices for dining due to the price point, it certainly was the best meal I and my friends have had anywhere in North County. Having reacquainted myself with Vivace, I suspect I will find my way back several times a year for special occasions or a night out when we feel like treating ourselves to a true culinary delight.
I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly excellent dining experience.
We had a wonderful birthday meal here in a beautiful and relaxing setting. The food was outstanding and so delicious. It was served at just the right temperature and in a very timely manner. The service was exceptional. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and very helpful in suggesting just the right dish to choose in pairing with other dishes and wine. The entire staff was attentive and gracious.
Perfect in every way.
The service was exceptional. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was elegant and relaxed.
Food, service and ambiance was impeccable. My husband ranked the evening in the top 3 in our more than 30 years together!
Food was very good. Service was not optimal. In fact for the price point, it was very poor
Food average and expensive. Ambiance great!
Expensive and not very good.
Dishes were too exotic- combination of ingredients didn’t work for us!
Exceptional restaurant with unique menu, presentation, superb service and ambiance. 3-4 course fixed price menu has a lot to offer any palette.
Love this restaurant, everything about it, from the exceptional menu to the service, fabulous tasting food and incredible presentations! Their donuts for desert are to die for! A must try if you’re at the hotel or in the area!
the food is always to be relied upon for a great meal, but sometimes you get a really good server that is into the food and wine and is thoroughly motivated to conveying those thoughts to you as a customer, and this fellow was super.
As we were being seated we were asked for our drink order. We said "in a minute when we've collected outselves". Thereafter, no one came near our table for 40 min. and we had to call someone over to give our orders and also ask about menu items. After ordering it took another 45 min to get our food. Service was very slow and pretentious - as though they were offering a menu that was out of this world. In reality we had a nice dinner but nothing out of the ordinary that we couldn't have prepared in our own kitchens - don't understand the fancy names and the attempt to create a mystery around the menu. Lovely ambiance.
All good. Server Adan was polite professional and expeditious. Also the other 3 servers from various (Romania and Poland)European countries were engaging and most professional.
Thank you for a nice evening
Overall, the food was good and the service was fantastic. My mom had a 3-course meal and my husband and I both had the 4-course meal. We liked that we could choose from all the antipasto, pasta, entree, and dessert options unlike the normal prefix meals with only a few choices for each course. My mom's scallops did have a lot of sand in them but they took the entire 3-course meal's price off the bill so that told me customer satisfaction was important to them. The pasta courses were very good and the perfect portion size for a 4-course meal. When I normally have steak I opt for ribeye but the only steak entree option at Vivace was New York steak so I took a chance. I was not disappointed. The steak was cooked perfectly at medium rare, tender, and the entire dish was very flavorful. My biggest problem with the restaurant is with the chairs. The seats sagged a lot close to the back of the chair making both my mom and I feel like the chair was broken and we might fall through the seats. My mom is very petite so it's not a matter of our weights. That's why I gave them only 3 stars for ambiance. All in all, we enjoyed our dining experience and mom was happy with her birthday meal. We'd definitely come back.
We had a fantastic dining experience. Delicious food, exceptional service. We look forward to returning again soon.
A wonderful place for a special birthday! The food was excellent (swordfish); the service was outstanding. An intimate place in a grand hotel. Valet parking is a plus. We will be back !!!
First time at Vivace. Menu had lots of choices and we
Picked a different prix fixed dinner one with Pasta as the entre , the other with scallops. Both came with beautiful desserts. Much too much food but I enjoyed every bite. The appetizers were enough without the dinner. House made prochutto with fresh mozzarella was the best. Only complaint was a loud group in an adjacent private dining room. Once they left everything deserved 5 stars.
An exceptionally prepared meal with exquisite service. We will definitely be back.
We had visited Vivace years ago and had found the service disappointing. Hearing the chef & management had changed, we decided to try again and were delighted. Service was first class, as was the meal with a small exception for the gluten free bread (stale) & dessert (weird tasting) - our gf starter & entree were superb & wine pairings perfect.
Unquestiinably one of the top three or four restaurants in San Diego County. Exquisite service, beautiful presentation, delicious food, attractive setting and decor. What more could you ask for? Worth the $$ for an exceptional dining out experience!
Enjoyed the gold on the Tiramisu
Nice of waiter to accommodate requests on pasta
Total ambience on par with Michellin
Great tasting menu and wines with great service and advice from our server . Not cheap but just about worth it !
Very friendly staff and beautiful restaurant. Good was very good and thry had creative dishes available.
Amazing Italian food with great service and impressive wine list
All was good until I found out the bottle of wine I ordered was not in stock. Food was quite good and the dessert with the dry ice effect was extraordinary.
Great place for a night out. It seems like most San Diegans don't know about this place, but it seems to be well known by people that aren't locals. Definitely a local gem of an Italian restaurant and tucked away in a spot that isn't normally traversed by casual restaurant hunters; people would have to go out of their way to try this place. There was a bass player strumming jazz tunes in the background while the audience ate. We had a 7pm reservation and the place didn't get packed till almost 8pm. The food portions are moderately sized but were very filling. Overall, it was a great experience. Would definitely come back to try their other dishes.
concept of dishes is good but execution not quite there. great service
We had an absolutely exceptional meal with friends. Food and presentation was amazing. Highly recommend
This restaurant wasn't near as fabulous as they made it out to be. For what it cost us, my boyfriends halibut was dry, and my meal was just so-so. We also had to wait for the bill because the waiter was too busy. Atmosphere is elegant though.
Beautiful ambiance with amazing food!
Service is 1st class and they made us feel very special on our 18th Wedding Anniversary and presented us with a special dessert!
Will definitely come back!
This restaurant deserves its 5 star rating. I would recommend it to anyone.
Its a great experience.
Lovely Evening, I only wish I could've eaten more! My husband and I came to dinner while staying at the 4 seasons Villas and had a wonderful dinner. Most notable was the grilled octopus-which might the best we have ever had-it put NYC restaurant to shame. The salad was good, not memorable but the pasta was perfect.
At the end of the meal our server brought the birthday message and told use we could chose from any of the desserts on the menu. We will return when back in the area...
First time visit to the restaurant and we were not disappointed. The ambiance and food were excellent.
Need linen table cloths
Very generous on flat water
Menu has many great choices
We had not been to Vivace in several years because it had become a bit stuffy and pricey. We went recently to try again on a special occasion and were so pleasantly surprised we returned with a group of friends. The setting is still exquisite, the service highly professional without being stuffy. The revamped menu is varied, intriguing, intriguing and affordable. There are multiple ways to enjoy tastings, from 3 to 5 courses spanning appetizers, pastas, entrees and desserts. We were able to share a tasting and sample several dishes...all excellent. The steak preparation was amazing. Items can also be ordered a la carte, so the diner is in charge. Vivace is perfect for special occasions and friends' gatherings if you enjoy imaginative, delicious meals!
One of our favorites for special occasions. Enjoyed the different "prix fixe" options. Nice variety of options for primi and secondi. Outstanding dessert presentation for the chocolate cake and raspberry sorbet! Very attentive wait staff.
My boyfriend and I planned a dinner at Vivace to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. The food was absolutely wonderful and portioned perfectly. The service was that of a luxurious restaurant, with the staff speaking gently and being incredibly polite. We dressed up, and felt very comfortable because of the luxurious feeling, but we spotted many guests dressed more comfortably as well. The food, drinks, service, atmosphere, decor, and lighting, was perfect! We couldn't be more happy with the decision to dine at Vivace and we'll definitely be visiting again. Thank you, Vivace, for treating us so well!!
Excellent service, beautiful resort, the restaurant is romantic (especially on the patio) but the food was just okay. The portions are very small, items are pricey, and the taste is just average. The bread was fantastic, though!
