Vivace - Charlotte
Inconsistent food. Brussels delish. But lobster ravioli still frozen...noisy kids playing on stairs...shouldnt be allowed in expensive restaurant
I have been to Vivace several times. It is consistent, has a good wine list, good service, and excellent food. The atmosphere is my favorite thing about it—beautiful interior and a large patio overlooking the Sugar Creek Greenway with a gorgeous view of the Charlotte skyline. Great for friends and for dates!
There was a hair in our food.
Great service, mediocre breakfast food
Went here during Queen’s Feast event.
First, I was 15 minutes late for reservation but they handled it perfectly and without skipping a beat.
Second, we were greeted by a pleasant hostess and another man dressed more in cook attire. Turns out this is an open kitchen style dining and it was one of the chefs. You could tell he was not just there for the paycheck, he loves people and doing what he does to make them happy.
Third, the ambiance was nice. The red lighting and massive glass wine vault bested only by the massive natural wood plank wall made this a great, professional yet casual atmosphere. Bring the corporate suits or come in jeans and both fit right in.
Fourth, the drink. When I saw a “barrel aged old fashioned” that included kaluha and vanilla, I had to try it. While nothing like I was expecting, it did not disappoint either. Old fashions are like the BBQ of the drink world, wherever you go, the name is the same but the recipe most assuredly is not!
Fifth, the appetizers. Queens Feast is a three course special for $35. Appetizers were the brussel sprouts and the meatballs. The meatballs were as expected but the brussel sprouts were another story. Pan fried with peaches, pancetta and a sweet sauce, they were phenomenal and the serving size was almost like having an entree!
Sixth, the main course. The lobster ravioli was quite flavorful with good texture to the filling and proper al dente. The veal saltimbocca was the largest letdown of the night for me. Not that it was bad, but after the Brussel sprouts, the bar was set high! While overall taste was okay, the brown “pan sauce” was watery and thin and could’ve been thicker for both flavor and presentation. Staff was quick to listen and offer to make it right though I declined their offer.
Finally, dessert. Cheesecake and Tira Misu were both excellent with no leftovers.
Would I go again? Absolutely! Thank you for the experience and mostly exceeding my expectations!
The food was outstanding and the service above and beyond!
Our food took 1 h 45 m to arrive at our table. Some of the food seemed hastily prepared.
Our waitress appeared a little overwhelmed. She was surprised our food had not arrived which explains the attention we received. Never once did a manager come to the table to help appease the situation.
It was restaurant week, the 4 of us spent $220 before gratuity.
My husband and I had our wedding reception at Vivace in Charlotte in 2013. Since then, we've gone back every year on/around our anniversary. This year we were beyond disappointed. One of our favorite wines, la Maialina “Gertrude”, is hard to find in this area but you can order it by the bottle at Vivace. We ordered our wine and our server was very confused and recommended a local beer instead. We ended up getting the bottle right as our first course was served. Our server reached across the table, grabbed our wine glasses and poured without showing us the bottle or offering a tasting. The meatballs were very good and the calamari was cold and rubbery. Our first course plates were removed once we were finished and our flatware was taken away as well. Our main course arrived and we sat for 5 minutes before we were able to catch someone and ask for service (more silverware). We ordered Grilled Beef Tenderloin Medium, it came Well Done. Our main courses were not hot, not cold, but not hot. Half way through the meal our server came back and asked if she could take our dessert order. We ordered tiramisu and espresso Gelato. The desserts came before our mains were completed. The server/runner who brought our desserts, not our server, apologized profusely. At the end of the meal we asked for our checked and waited nearly 10 minutes and then our server waited until we put our credit card down. We asked to speak to the manager, but nothing came of that.... What was once our favorite restaurant in Charlotte has truly disappointed us. There was very little organization, mediocre food and terrible service. I hate to leave a bad review but we're terribly upset with our last experience.
The temperature in the restaurant was too warm. I literally sweat through my entire meal. We didn’t get additional mimosas and stay longer because it was just too warm.
Urban Food Group is great overall, but not thrilled with brunch at Vivace. We had some business to attend to in Charlotte on Sunday (we live in Waxhaw) and, hoping to avoid the “restaurant week” crowd, made a reservation for brunch at Vivace. We are quite familiar with Urban Food Group; we had, in fact, enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Civetta the night before! Didn’t think about Vivace also being UFG until we got there, but were excited due to past experiences.
There were a few “not so great” things that happened - Although there were only a few tops in the restaurant we sat completely unattended more than five minutes before our server (who was with the hostess when we were seated). At 10:45 on Sunday morning the sound system was loudly playing club music; not very “brunchy.” My husband asked for a taste of the Bloody Mary mix before deciding his beverage and it was handed to him in a glass with a very visible chip and crack on the rim, plus a piece of fuzz (or hair?) imbedded in the chip. Ummm..... Food was ok; the prices were good for the portion and plate, but the frittatas were a bit overdone. Potatoes were great!
We will go back to try again; everybody gets a second chance, right? And we know that, overall, Urban’s restaurants are great!
I've been there before and the food was delicious. I didn't realize it was restaurant week and the main course menu was basically pasta. All protein was an upcharge.
I wish I could have ordered from the regular menu, one that I know and love.
It was great! Food was delicious!
Went for restaurant week and disappointed with the disrepair of the place. Kept needing to ask for drinks to be refilled and then only one person at a time would get refilled.
Food was not at a “restaurant week” type level... should have went somewhere else...
We have always enjoyed our experience at Vivace. We let our server know we had a time constraint for a show we were attending and she was very accommodating and made sure we kept on schedule without rushing the food. The atmosphere is always very nice and we will certainly return again.
The restaurant was not very crowded which seemed unusual since it was Friday night during restaurant week. But the food and service were both very good. I would go back.
Went for restaurant week, had a great meal and wonderful service. Would definitely go back
I can’t really review much. The floor was so dirty and sticky, the booth seat ripped (not a huge deal) then I went to move my bread plate and it was dirty. Had food on it. At that point we walked out never to return. Gross.
The place is beat up, torn seating and gouges out of tables, everything is sticky including beat up menus and smells like cleaning solution,a few foggy windows with bad seals. The food has good flavor but chef can not cook protein, over cooked scallops and tough shrimp that was hard to pull tails off.The place has a nightclub feel rather than fine dining.
Vivace is classy, brunch, and welcoming! The service was amazing and the food followed suit. I can’t wait to go back and enjoy a meal with friends!
Went for their Sunday brunch, great selection of Italian favorites as well as some more traditional American fare.
Food was delicious but the service was awful - entrees not brought out together, frittata was cold and drinks (waters, coffee and mimosas) went unfilled for several minutes. At one point no one at our table had a beverage.
Half cooked chicken, kale salad was absolutely terrible, and the service was extremely poor. What a waste of a “high end restaurant”.
The restaurant is showing its age. Some banquette seats are torn open. My food was very mediocre. We will not go back to a restaurant that was one of our favorites.
Service was very slow. Waiter did not come to our table until 10 minutes after we were seated. Drink order was not served until we had been there about a half hour. Two of our 4 drinks were returned because tonic was flat. I ordered halibut which was overcooked to the extent it was dry and tasteless.
First time visit. Table was super wobbly; told the server and he apologized but did nothing about it. Ticket times were lengthy despite not being busy. Food was good except for my son’s pizza. It was undercooked and still doughy in the middle. The wine we chose was excellent... wish I wrote down the name. All in all, average experience.
First time diners at Vivace. Great food and service. Chef came out to make sure our dinner was up to expectations. We will be back soon.
They have very good brunch
The welcome and service were uncaring. One of our orders came very late without an apology. It tasted awful. We asked for one more Mimosa ador a total of 3 and were charged for five. I had to request an itemized bill. We won’t be back.
Food was good. Service was great.
The ambiance was tired - our table had a huge scratch on it and the seat was ripped. The server was overwhelmed and neglected us. The appetizer came before our drinks and the bread came after the appetizer. The Brussels Sprout appetizer was good, as was the duck risotto, but the gluten free pizza was from a frozen crust and lacked texture.
This place needs a good cleaning and some kitchen management. We waited an hour to get our food in a restaurant that was not full. Food was not that great and establishment needs a really good cleaning. I would not go back.
It took over an hour to get our food from the limited brunch menu. Never a word from a manager to explain or apologize. Drinks were on special, but very slow to arrive to the table. The food is moderately priced and tasty, but the whole experience was over shadowed by the slow food and drink service. The restaurant was loud and the table was flimsy and rocked every time it was touched. The bathrooms were unkept. I can see lots of potential for this to be a great place, but they are missing the details that make it an enjoyable experience. Servers were standing around when they could have been tidying the restrooms or watering the dead plants by the entrance.
Father's Day. Great menu, great servers, kitchen that could not keep up with the orders. 30 minutes from order to service. The food was absolutely delicious, the server was perfect, and it was a great event. Perhaps they should spend more time on production?
We can say we have been there, but will not rush back. Food was just ok, service was spotty and the staff was noisier than the guests. $2.00 Bloody Mary was good, tho.
Birthday dinner. Good food!
Food was delicious. Waitress was wonderful very knowledgeable i believe her name was Sherise
Several large tablets made for loud conversations. Moved to a booth from middle of floor to minimize congestion and noise.
Appetizers were great! Main food was ok. Not sure what else to say, waitress was sweet, surrounding terrible, I wasn’t aware I was going to an oversized strip mall.
We're ordered one of the newer menu items, the crab rsvioli, and it was great. Service was informative and entertaining.
Super empty at lunch, felt like a bar on a Sunday morning after a big night. Bathrooms weren't clean, just seems to have really gone down hill. The food was good.
Brunch was amazing. Service was okay and drinks were great. Reasonably priced for quality and atmosphere.
