Viva! Neighborhood Eatery of Los Gatos Ratings and Reviews
We were unfortunate in our scheduling that there was another larger event in another part of the restaurant. The chairs at our table were folding chairs, which didn't even appear to be the right height. We worked with the hostess to fix this issue, and all was well. We had a lovely meal with two other couples.
Good experience overall sat in one of the banquet rooms and the carpet was dirty. I don't particularly like the banquet rooms but seems they always seat us there. Bisque soup was good. Steaks were good and rare. Horseradish was very bland and underspiced as if we were dining in an old folks home. Desert was fantastic as was the service! We enjoy the food and great beer. Food for the most part was good. A couple of hiccups.
I liked it. My wife was good with our choice for date night.
Food was good, except wife ordered seafood salad with avocado, didn’t come with any had to ask. My prime rib was good, except asked waiter for some horseradish, never got any. Drinks ordered and did not get any until half way thru meal. Overall, for the price, service was spotty at best, food was prepared well, but the lousy service really brought down overall experience.
In general, Viva service and food is reliably good, but this was Valentines Day. Service was slow, prime rib seemed like it had been sitting.
Probably would not recommend on a busy holiday. They seemed to get a bit overwhelmed. Otherwise, it’s one of our go-to places.
We walked into an extremely noisy restaurant due to a singer with his settings too high. We were shown to a padded booth which helped but then we were forgotten! Finally snagged a waiter and got the process started. Had to continually ask for water. No one really paid attention which was disappointing.
We had not eaten here for about five years and there is really no reason for us to return.
I went in to meet a friend here. As we entered, the restaurant felt really nice. Decor was elegant. Tables were draped in linen, with napkins and all! The staff was polite and courteous. Warm bread with oil and vinegar was a nice touch. The actual food unfortunately was disappointing. The portions were fairly decent. We ordered a salad and sandwich to be shared, they even split it for us. Beet Salad was alright, Veggie sandwich was not, way too much eggplant, not even cooked properly, pretty much no taste at all. I might give it another try, but I'd be hesitant in recommending to others after my first experience.
We sat outside so we could talk quietly but still hear the live music inside. It was perfect. Our server realized my date and I wanted to talk more than anything else, so he left us alone most of the time yet was responsive when needed, including closing out the check. Well done.
Table lay out Left no room for servers to pass without hitting me. Server didn’t know menu or differences of the pastas offered. Service was terrible as server was assigned tables in several rooms and outside tables.
The noise level was so high you couldn’t talk. The server couldn’t hear our order.
The final issue is a band showed up at 7:00. Their AMPs where set for stadium use.
Several parties left due to the noise. It hurt my ears.
Waited 30 minutes for the server to take our order, literally had to flag down the manager. We were 1 of 2 tables in the entire restaurant. Meal was fine but then when we went to pay the server forgot to give the credit card back. Took another 10 minutes to flag the manager down to get the card. Overall it was a disaster.
We had eaten at Viva's before and had a good experience. But this time the service was awful, the food good but at the prices they were charging, I expected much better. $36 for paella, $44 for a steak that was just ok. But the biggest issue was the service. It took time to get a waiter and then because of the number of tables he was managing, we did not see much of him. They brought us our appetizers and then basically threw our main courses on the table almost immediately after we got our appetizers. We had to consolidate plates to get the dishes to fit on the table. It was a very unpleasant experience. We had invited friends and would not go back.
The place is usually packed. Always make reservations. The service is just ok. It seems they are always short a server or two and the runner is always grumpy. Don’t ask him for anything, he’ll give you the stink eye. The Busser’s are great. 3 of them got us everything we needed. They work the hardest, I hope they are tipped out well. We saw our server to take the order and to bring our check back. 1 time she came to see if we were ok after they brought us the wrong salad. Food was pretty good. Pricy, but it is LG, so.
We've eaten at Viva several times before and enjoyed eating there. We went for Thanksgiving dinner and were very disappointed. The food was ho-hum and expensive for what we received. We had reservations. There were two of us. Two people came in after us and were seated first. We will not be back.
Always consistent with great wait staff and tasty food. The biggest thing for Los Gatos is they have parking! It is nice to be able to park and not have to go round and round looking for a space. Los Gatos, with it's fine restaurants, really needs adequate parking so as to enjoy these places and Viva has it.
I had booked Viva based on the overall rating in Opentable. But my wife had concerns in reading some of the reviews which expressed issues with service. Viva must have fixed the issue since service was excellent.
For the food we had the surf n’ turf special of Chilean sea bass and prime rib. Both were excellent. Tasty and not dry.
For appetizers we had the fried calamari and tempura green beans. I would say these were average.
We have been regulars here since it opened. Our favorite table is reserved for us without our asking and our favorite drinks are brought to the table after we are seated. We are greeted by the staff like old friends. Needless to say the service is excellent and the food delicious. We are lucky Viva is close to our home and convent for a night out.
I went with a friend and her son for lunch. I ordered the tomato bisque and beet salad. It was very large, so I got to take some home for lunch the next day. My friend ordered the ahi tuna salad, and enjoyed it. For her young son, the restaurant was able to accommodate her request for salmon and rice, which made both of them very happy. Overall a nice meal.
