Viva! Neighborhood Eatery of Los Gatos Ratings and Reviews
Always consistent with great wait staff and tasty food. The biggest thing for Los Gatos is they have parking! It is nice to be able to park and not have to go round and round looking for a space. Los Gatos, with it's fine restaurants, really needs adequate parking so as to enjoy these places and Viva has it.
I had booked Viva based on the overall rating in Opentable. But my wife had concerns in reading some of the reviews which expressed issues with service. Viva must have fixed the issue since service was excellent.
For the food we had the surf n’ turf special of Chilean sea bass and prime rib. Both were excellent. Tasty and not dry.
For appetizers we had the fried calamari and tempura green beans. I would say these were average.
We have been regulars here since it opened. Our favorite table is reserved for us without our asking and our favorite drinks are brought to the table after we are seated. We are greeted by the staff like old friends. Needless to say the service is excellent and the food delicious. We are lucky Viva is close to our home and convent for a night out.
I went with a friend and her son for lunch. I ordered the tomato bisque and beet salad. It was very large, so I got to take some home for lunch the next day. My friend ordered the ahi tuna salad, and enjoyed it. For her young son, the restaurant was able to accommodate her request for salmon and rice, which made both of them very happy. Overall a nice meal.
My family and I have been coming here for the last 3 years. This was my first time giving a 0 tip to my server named Brianne. She forgot about my order after waiting 45 minutes, I asked a another server to find her. After apologizing she suggested I take it to go, at this point i was so hungry I continued waiting for my order until it finally arrived. Then came the bill, she took at least another 20-25 minutes for that which I had to give to another server who serves water and bread basket for the tablet! Finally, she came with the bill receipt without my credit card which she had to go search for. Very frustrating and disappointing experience. I hope it doesn't happen again.
Viva is our neighborhood restaurant, and I eat there 2 or 3 times a month with my husband or friends. I have always had good food and service, but that was not the case for Friday’s lunch. it was likely my fault for ordering the quiche with chicken, green beans, and artichoke, but the spinach salad accompanying it was very soggy and did not look or taste good at all.
I will still go to Viva as well as recommend it because this is not usually the case. I will hope it doesn’t happen again,
Also our waiter mixed up my Sauvignon blank with my friend’s Chardonnay. We switched after tasting and did not mention it.
We came here for dinner before movie theater, we thought with plenty of time...Our server forgot our order and we sat and sat watching others getting served. We left after an hour with our 7 year old almost falling asleep without eating. This restaurant is completely understaffed for a Friday night it appears and our waitress was I think overwhelmed with the patio she was apparently handling by herself . The manager was very apologetic and tried very hard to make amends, but eating risotto out of a to go box in the theater was not my favorite experience.
We went to celebrate my mother's 89th birthday and I did note that in our reservation and I also mentioned it to the waiter when we ordered dessert. I was disappointed that they did not acknowledge the event even with a candle on her dessert.
The food service was slow due to two banquets but the waiter told us and that was fine.
We had a very delightful Sunday brunch. I would have given it a five star rating, but the breakfast potatoes were so spicy hot we could not eat them. The chilly powder and pepper were overwhelming . Luckily the potatoes did not mingle with any other item on our plates. Hopefully the next time we go for a Sunday brunch there a different "potato cooker" will be on duty.
Disappointing. Two of us came for lunch: I ordered the Toscana pizza with the THICKER crust, not the thin one (I made sure the server understood this! I dislike thin saltine-cracker crust). But when it came, it had a super-thin crust. When I politely pointed this out, he simply said, "I'm sorry, ma'am" and walked away: No offer to replace it with what I actually ordered, no adjustment on the bill, nothing. My companion had the ravioli, which needed salt & pepper but was otherwise decent, but it cost a surprising $20.25! For a lunch plate of ravioli? Seriously? I'm not sure we'll be back. :(
Viva has been hit and miss in the past. We have been going for years. My last visit was exceptionally good. Took a friend for a birthday lunch. We sat outside and both ordered the spinach salad. The salad was really delicious and fresh and our service was extraordinary. Want to give a big shout out to Jordan who took such wonderful and attentive care of us. When i mentioned it was a birthday lunch for my friend he went out of his way to make sure all our needs were met and brought a lovely dessert as well. People like that can either make or break a dining experience. Our lunch was memorable.
Viva! is my go to place for business and special celebrations. They are efficient, and the food has never disappointed me. They have been helpful for the non-profit I helped found, called Cancer CAREpoint. And Whole Foods is right next door. Often I like to sit outside but we were in a booth today which was great and we could hear eachother well.
I love Viva's quiche, which I have with Caesar salad and iced tea, which always gets refilled. Sheryl was our wait person on this visit, and at the end she noticed were celebrating a birthday and ran to get complimentary ice cream and birthday greeting plate. It was so nice of her.
I went for a business meal early on a Friday evening, the waiter was obviously hew and made some rookie mistakes.
The food was good but not great.
The atmosphere was lively and festive with a very good band starting at 7p.
Prices were perhaps a little higher than similar places but certainly not out of line.
Viva! had a nice atmosphere, decent food, at a fair price.
I was very disappointed with the overall experience. I took my husband there for Father's Day. We ordered very simple food (egg benedicts and chopped salad) and waited for over 40 mins for our food to arrive. The restaurant was surprisingly not packed on Father's Day at 12:30 p.m. I asked for dressing on the side but it was tossed. Since we already waited for 40 mins, I did not want to send the food back. My husband's egg benedicts were just warmed. The eggs and the sauce dried out. Our waitress never came back to check on us. I ate 1/3 of my salad as the dressing was so unbearably sweet, the chicken and bacon were dried. The bus person picked up the plate and did not even ask if there were any issues with the food. I think I will get better food and services at Denny's .
I would not return to this restaurant for brunch. I ordered the eggs benedict which comes with potatoes and a "fruit kabob". The poached eggs were overcooked with stringy whites and a medium hard cooked yolk. The potatoes were not well cooked either and the fruit did not seem freshly prepared at all.
Our waiter was pleasant and professional and the overall customer service was good, but the food was not worth the price.
I cannot speak for any of the other menu items, or dinner at this establishment.
We've celebrated Mother's Day at Viva! for several years now, and the food was better than ever (same brunch menu, but well prepared), but the service was worse. We hardly saw our server (for drink refills) at all, and we were very surprised by the actions of our bus boy. Apparently, the buffet table had run out of plates and the bus boys were sent to find empty plates. A bus boy came up to our table, and, without even asking, took my son's fork off his plate WITH FOOD STILL ON THE FORK AND PLATE and put the fork with food on the table. We said, "Please don't take that; he's still eating!" The bus boy said, "But he can get a new plate." We said, "NO, because you're OUT of plates. Don't take that plate!" No one should touch a diner's fork while he is still eating!
