The Classic Italian Meat Sauce
Filetto Di Manzo
Filet mignon smothered with sauted mushrooms cooked to perfection
We've been going to Vitos for about 20 years. It used to be one of my favorites. But lately I've been very disappointed. The food is still good but the service and attention paid by management, servers, busboys etc has been awful. This latest experience was no exception. When we arrived the restaurant was half empty. Plenty of lovely booths available in the main dining room. The host brought us to a tiny cramped table in the back room which was freezing. We asked to move. He then moved us to the other back room and sat us at a table for 3 (we were 4 people)...the table literally only had 3 chairs. When we inquired about all of the wonderful empty booths in the warm main dining room he said 'oh yes, of course you can choose whichever you like'. So why weren't we given that treatment or one of those options from the start? We then sat at our table for about 30 minutes (no exaggeration) without menus, drinks or any attention paid at all. I finally asked a busboy if he could please bring us some water. The restaurant was not busy enough to be ignored the way we were. We had a lovely waiter when he finally discovered us but the initial inhospitality made for an underwhelming dining experience.
Everything was great like always. Thanks for the great food and service
Classic restaurant and service you just can't find anymore. Food and drink are excellent!!!
What a charming, Italian restaurant! Food, Service, ambiance all great! So wonderful not to be a "modern" noisy restaurant. We will definitely return! Our friends who introduced us have been goin there for years.
Love this place! Sergio is my favorite waiter. It is a classic restaurant with consistently great food and service. You may also spot a celebrity here or there on the weekends. We did.
VITO's has stayed a consistently good old-school Italian restaurant for the 25 odd years I've been going.
The service is excellent, the cocktails are not frilly, just made as they should be. The pastas, salads, meats, and fish are all fresh, with flavor as the forte, and are consistently well prepared. The atmosphere is inviting to young adults, families, older guests and anyone who wants a good Italian meal in a comfortably elegant Italian "joint". When I tell friends about it, they mention that they've driven by many times and "wondered how it was". Well, I'd like to keep it the best kept secret to keep the crowds away, but it's too good a place not to share. Go enjoy Vito's!
This is a classic Italian favorite! Consistently great food and great service. I have been here many times and have not been disappointed ever. It is great for couple, dates, families, and celebrations. Valet in the back is convenient as well. They have meat and fish lovers alike. If you haven't been, it is time!
Vito is always delightful. We went for our anniversary, and had the tableside Caesar, Spaghetti de la Casa, and Cioppino. Everything was excellent, including the service. Oh, and the cocktails are strong and delicious!
Have frequented this restaurant for years. Love the room to the left as you enter with booths and it is not as noisy. Alberto and Robert make great Caesar salads and we shared one on this visit. We also shared a spaghetti marinara and one glass of sauvignon blanc. Service and food were very good/excellent.
We go to Vito's frequently. Our visit on Tuesday was not up to the standards we have come to expect.
Service was off & slow.
Our beautiful table side Ceasar Salad had so much vinegar we couldn't eat it. A huge disappointment, as that is one of our favorite reasons for going to dinner at Vito's.
Ordered special Lamb, was good
Sand Dabs were OK
Veal was tough, overcooked.
We will go back, as it is one of our neighborhood gems.
But something was clearly OFF on Tuesday evening.
Excellent can’t wait ton come back with the rest of my family
Great classic Italian with great service!
Everything was perfect as usual. No wonder this is my favorite restaurant in LA!
First time and will return as it was better then expected and great service
We are from North Carolina and we were LA for a family gathering. This was our 2nd visit to Vito. The food is absolutely fabulous old world Italian! The service is wonderfully attentive without being over bearing. We have been there as a party of 3 and as a party of 7. The level of service never altered away from greatness. We highly recommend this restaurant for a truly wonderful dining experience!
Excellent old school service...food is good but not great. The waiters will treat you well and its a very enjoyable experience. Great deals on bottles of decent wines. Be sure to sit in front room...booths and quieter.
Impeccable service and amazing food. Most welcoming owners ever!!!
They brought out our entrees without knowing we never were served our salads or appetizers. They took them back, brought our salads and then served us our clearly reheated entrees while saying they were fresh. We keep coming here because we like the vibe and the food is very good but the service half the time is crap.
They need to tighten up their staff.
Wonderful experience at a traditional Italian restaurant...great service, generous menu and delicious food
I was perfection excellent customer service and the food is quality thank you Noella Baci
Old School Italian. Food was fine but nothing stood out. Somewhat lacking in overall flavor. Ambiance is very dated. Service is old school which is a good thing in LA! Very attentive.
I was in a party of five and they wouldn't give separate checks. No such notice was displayed anywhere. One of my numbers savvy friend calculated the totals including tip for us and submitted our credit cards. The Maitre D' told us we couldn't include tip. More inconvenience. When our checks came back we signed and added the tip. The waiter stormed back to complain that the tip wasn't enough!!! When restaurant policies cause such inconvenience I DON'T TIP. But the waiter told us how much it should be. Unprecedented. We won't be going back. Besides their cheese is pregrated in a little shaker. The better Italian restaurants have fresh cheese grated on request.
The calamari was excellent!!
Consistent - Good food, good service. Of course I will go
Been going here for years, always consistently awesome!
food was wonderful the service outstanding. we will be back soon
Best Italian restaurant on entire west side
Always outstanding and our “go to place”.
We had a wonderful meal as always!! I don’t prefer the room towards the back left of the restaurant, it’s a bit louder than the other dining areas but the service and food was top notch.
Its americanized italian food.
The inside are small rooms and tables too close too each other.
Everything is always fantastic at Vito. Thank you for another wonderful meal!
There is a reason that Vito’s is a regular spot for so many for such a long long time, and it is because everything about it is great.
I tried to avoid garlic in both the Caesar salad and the linguine with clams by asking for no garlic in the salad or linguine with clams. I also asked for no croutons and no anchovy paste (my wife does not like anchovies), but rather had whole anchovies on the side for myself.
None the less, I had a very severe negative reaction to the food later that night. Maybe, there was still some garlic somewhere in the meal or else some other ingredient caused the reaction.
I enjoyed the taste, but I'll have to avoid these selections (especially the caeser salad) in the future.
Food is very good, though noise levels are a bit high. It is a rather crowded space with limited waiting area (basically the bar). Service is very attentive.
Food was absolutely outstanding. I've heard many people recommend this restaurant. It has old world charm. A quaint atmosphere with bustling waiters moving purposely. The menu has a wide selection of dishes. The dessert cart moves in to finish off the meal. Could not have been more impressed. Felt like I was in a restaurant in the heart of Florence Italy. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed the atmosphere and the good service in general but the main course (to follow) was a disappointment. To start we had cocktails which were excellent, then the fried calamari which was better than average but not stellar, it lacked flavor and the fried crust was a little mushy. Caesar salad was delicious prepared at table. I ordered a veal Milanese which was so thin that the breaded part on both sides was thicker than the meat, that's not correct and the overall flavor was like old oil, no veal flavor to speak of. I was disappointed but I wasn't in the mood to complain given the holidays and they were so busy. The pasta was good, but again nothing very special. It's really too bad because this restaurant has a great atmosphere and a good authentic vibe. To be be fair I did see some other dishes being served which looked delicious so perhaps the next time we will have a better experience.
Always a good choice for old style east coast Italian dining. This is a favorite for many years in spite of the near earsplitting noise level when the restaurant is busy (which it usually is). I prefer to come relatively late (after 8:00 PM) when the early dining crowd begins to thin out and the noise level drops.
Feels like home. Always good
The food is excellent and the service is outstanding!!! Always wonderful!
Vito is a long-established restaurant and so it's clear that it appeals to a large population but for the life of me I can't understand why anyone would choose this place when there are so many outstanding Italian alternatives in LA. Vito's is a traditional restaurant with Italian-speaking tuxedoed staff who likely have been there for a decade or more. The food (what we had) was acceptable but nothing special. What drove our negative experience was the overall chaos and frenetic environment of the restaurant. Tables are packed together like sardines and unfortunately our party of 2 was seated next to a large party of 12 that included 1-2 of those people that every diner hates who feel like they have to be heard by speaking (or screeching) over everyone. Both waiters and busboys are racing around like chickens with their heads cut off, but it doesn't help get the food to the table any quicker. The waiter tried to compensate for the slow food by (unsuccessfully) pushing us to order more wine. After being seated for an hour we had only received our salads. To management's credit, when we decided that the experience was so bad we couldn't take it anymore and cancelled our entrees and asked for our check, they handled it professionally and with apologies.
Always fun. Always delicious.
