It was a sunny Saturday noon when we had our first family time in Vista 18. There was no personnel at the front desk of the restaurant when we came in. No welcome greetings whatsoever from the waitresses. They did have our table for five ready though. I felt it was just the way they handle us directly, no pleasantries at all. I had the winter salad. It was just fine. No follow up from the waitress if everything was alright. I guess they were that busy. How much more of it was a full house. Parking was free which was a gem considering it’s in a prime downtown location. The view was spectacular on a sunny noon. The staff did say thank you for coming which redeemed their earlier treatment. I left a feeling of being not welcomed. Will we come back? Maybe.
Beautiful view. Very attentive staff. Great value for money.
Great place! They didn't have live music on Valentine's which was too bad, but everything else was super-duper. I had the pork, which wasn't as tender as I'd hoped, but ultimately was still very delicious. I would recommend this place for a date.
I went with my husband for valentine’s day dinner the ambience was perfect the view was gorgeous the service was amazing the food though sadly was terrible. We spent over $150 on appy, dinner, drinks and desserts the portions were very tiny and the food flavour was less then desirable. Even the creme brûlée for desert was milky and runny. Just not worth the $ even for the view.
One of the few restaurants you can sit and actually hear your dinner companions--nice and quiet, although admittedly it wasn't terribly busy the night we were there. The decor is a bit dated but the view is spectacular and the food is pretty good. The sauce under the ravioli was rather unappetizing looking (looked like refried beans, a personal dislike) but it tasted fine. Service was also good--enough attention but not too much.
Vista 18 was our choice for a special New Years Day dinner, which we shared with our daughter and future son-in-law. I'm a Richmond, BC fan of Garrett Schack and his Cookin on the Coast show, and I've looked forward to visiting Vista 18 for a couple years, now. My high expectations were met!! Lovely atmosphere - cozy and special at the same time; the view was a bonus! Our server was charming, knowledgable, and efficient. We all enjoyed our meals, every course was beautiful & delicious! Especially the extra chocolate truffle!
Fantastic gem!! Great atmosphere and food. Highly recommend the Nash!!
We were celebrating our anniversary. Just came for dinner, so can't speak for all of the other options I would recommend this restaurant for. The ambience was good. Quiet enough for conversation. The waitress was quite attentive and helpful. The food was tasty and nicely presented. It was a pleasurable evening.
The view was great - the food not so much. I ordered the sirloin steak and it was so tough I could barely cut it with the sharp knife they gave me. I won't go back.
Good service and great food and budget friendly. Highly recommended!
The wait staff wasn't friendly, the wine was watered down, the portions were extra small for the price. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
Brunch with a friend before the show; what a great place to enjoy the view, great food and good conversation!!
Went for a quick bite prior to seeing a show at the Royal Theatre. The staff were aware of our timeline and accommodated which was much appreciated. The food and service was good overall. We visit this restaurant frequently and would recommend especially for the daytime views.
Best steak I have ever had, very nice view and table. Very nice place for a special occasion meal.
The service was very good, but the food was disappointing. The appetizer I ordered was big enough to be a meal by itself, even though it would have been very easy for the chef to make it smaller and easier to eat with minor modifications. The ravioli was mostly thick dough, with the filling occupying less than half of the area of the ravioli. The chef seems to have trouble with appropriate portions for meal components, and for parts of dishes.
Had a wonderful experience here. Started going when my son was little for Santa’s breakfast....they don’t do that anymore and my son is 20 years old now so now we just do breakfast and check out the Christmas trees at the Empress/ The Bay Center.
Great venue for a double date. Everyone enjoyed their meal and drinks! I had the Steelhead Trout and it was delicious.
One of my favourite restaurants in Victoria for the combination of food, view and ambiance.
The view and service is great but food is underwhelming.
Excellent service as usual. A group 12 for a business supper. all in attendance were very appreciative of the quality of the food and the beautiful views to be had from the restaurant
Food, drink, service, view, ambience and nice music, all top rate.
The meal and atmosphere was simply fabulous. I can't wait to get back to Victoria to visit Vista 18 again. Everything was delicious and our server was very gracious; a fantastic dining experience. Don't hesitate to make a reservation!! Go for it!
We came here for breakfast and the food was not good. You can tell that things were made in advance and left out — most of the food tasted a bit off. The worst was definitely the poached eggs that were sitting in a disgusting puddle of sour water...the egg whites tasted like rubber; you can tell the eggs were sitting out for awhile. The eggs didn’t taste fresh at all. We will not be returning here.
The service was good and the view was nice, but overall, the food really made our stomachs feel queasy.
food was great but the one hour wait between appy's and main meal not so much. Said they had trainee and problems i the kitchen. Comped the appetizer and one dinner. Would still go back.
This was an amazing experience for my girlfriend and I on our first date. The price alone will have me going back alone.
I couldn't have asked for a better time with ambiance, romance and relaxation with the woman I love,
Great view. Menu includes some unique choices. Quality first class.
Decent and interesting menu. There's a flair in the cooking without going too far. The service is good, the view probably best in Victoria from up high.
Eveyone enjoyed themselves. A great ambiance for a wonderful get together. The price for brunch was affordable.
Very disappointed with value. Added $7 to my dish for a side of vegetables, and I got 3 green beans, one slice of yellow pepper, and 4 pieces of mushrooms. Couldn’t believe that was the only veg on my plate. Steak was done as I requested but I left the restaurant so hungry. Very disappointing. I even asked the server if I should get a side of mushrooms as I love them, and she said “oh you will get enough in your side veg” .... literally the equivalent of one big mushroom cut into 4 pieces ... so disappointing as I brought friends from out of town.
Beautiful view and interesting menu was ruined by a very loud group which made the evening horrific. Surprised the staff didn't deal with the situation as there is a private dining room could have easily been used to make everyone happy. As a former waiter who has had to deal with similar situations, was disappointed. Pretty much ruined a special night with my daughters.
Went here for a birthday brunch. The view was amazing, the food really good and my grandma loved it!
I wanted my friends from Nanaimo to experience Vista 18, the view and the cuisine. It didn’t disappoint.😊
My husband and I took a trip up the west coast for our anniversary, ending in Victoria. We ate here because we were staying at the hotel, but the food and service were excellent!! Definitely one of the better restaurants on our trip! The view is spectacular, and we enjoyed it very much!
My Vegan family member ordered one of two vegan salad choices. The lunch salad occupied 5 inches of plate space. It had one long slice of cucumber to hold in 20 small lettuce leaves. Apparenty she enjoyed the dressing. She was hungry after finishing her salad so we went to a sandwich shop for our 2nd lunch. I ordered the belgian wallfle which came with chocolate chips and crushed local hazelnuts. It was dry and the menu said chocolate. I would not have ordered it if I knew I was paying so much for 10 chocolate chips. I refused the fake maple syrup and the honey so I was infor a dry little waffle. I too ate a sandwich afterwards.
I have tried to enjoy this restaurant 2 times before and it always disappoints. May I suggest better quality food to start like real maple syrup in a tiny jug is all an adult would want. I would have had an eggs benny but I remembeted the hollandaise sauce was not house made. I think my waffle wasn't house made either.
I have always loved Vista 18. The food was definitely not up to par today but I understand there were training issues and the management comped my meal. I will be back because historically it has been one of my favorite spots.
Food was amazing and the view can`t be beat. Service was great. Pleasantly surprised.
Fantastic environment!! Incredible food and service. Spectacular view from any seat in the restaurant.
Excellent meal and excellent service! Reasonable fresh fish prices and good cocktail menu. Recommend the root chips - yummy!
