Biscuits and gravy were good. The She crab soup was terrible. Thick, flour filled, we were unable to eat it. The waitress was slow, and unresponsive - seemed not to care that food was bad.
Food was great. I had the farmers omelette and home fries - excellent.
Service was not very good, pretty slow, especially on the coffee.
Very good meal and service
dose not offer lunch at lunch they do a brunch till3pm
Our server was doing a lot of side jobs and was not as attentive as would have liked. She was very pleasant but not present.
Good southern food. Large portions. Fried chicken came with three pieces. Mac and cheese and mashed potato sides were a hit. Shrimp and grits were good. They had onions and peppers in them that detracted from it. Fried green tomatoes were yummy but they need spicy sauce instead of ranch. Only beer and wine here.
Everything was amazing! I will most definitely return. I’m happy I made the right choice for my birthday dinner
Amazing, tomato bisque soup, I think it’s new (fall ‘19). The service was great. I often use this place for business lunches and they’ve been patient when my acquaintances are running late. Overall great food and service.
Keith thanks for continuing to come to us for your business lunches. We are glad you feel the southern hospitality at Virginia's. We look forward to hosting you soon. - Holy City Hospitality
We thoroughly enjoyed everything about Virginia's on King! Our waiter was helpful, attentive and friendly, really nice. It was fried chicken night so I indulged and enjoyed every bite! The chicken was tender, moist, seasoned perfectly and was not greasy. Hubby thoroughly enjoyed the home style meatloaf, potatoes and heavy. The banana pudding was a delicious finale. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and low noise for easy conversation. We would definitely recommend!
Our go to restaurant for breakfast and brunch when friends are in town.
Donny, we love that we are your go to for breakfast and brunch when visiting Charleston. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to serving you many more southern meals. - Holy City Hospitality
Although we had a reservation, people who did not were sat as we waited the 10 minutes for the host to acknowledge us. Then of course they were full, and there was no table for us. Ate at the bar, food was not edible. Sad really.

Amazing fried chicken! Excellent service too!
We are so happy you loved the fried chicken and got the southern hospitality from our servers that you deserve. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. We hope to host you again soon. - Holy City Hospitality
We met a cousin and friends for lunch. All were very happy with their meals. I had a delicious bowl of she-crab soup and the best, thickest crab cake sandwich I’ve ever eaten. We will be back.

We have eaten here many times over the years and the food was always good. Not great but good southern cuisine without all the frills and mashups that permeate the Charleston food scene. This visit however was disappointing. Although the service was good, the food was terrible. Crab cakes which are normally firm and meaty were mushy and bread filled. The shrimp and grits, a go to meal for me in any restaurant that serves them, was subpar at best. The grits were lumpy and the sausage overcooked and hard. The final insult was the shrimp, only four rather small shrimp and grossly overcooked. The bread served with the meals was doughy and sweet, not a pleasant combination. The one saving grace for the meal were the soups, the tomato bisque was perfect and the She crab soup was delightful. We used to be able to count on this restaurant for a reliable taste of Charleston cuisine. Not anymore.

Service was awesome. Everyone was very friendly. The food was not so friendly. "Lackluster" doesn't even describe the food. My wife and I have lived in Charleston for 10 years and finally made it to Virginia's, for the first and last time, last night. We had a 5:30pm reservation so the dining room was not busy, whatsoever. I've been told by out-of-town friends to have the fried chicken, so I did, along with mashed potatoes and baked Mac-n-cheese. The 3-pieces of chicken were so hot and oily when I got them, not to mention, the breast was fried too long. The skin tasted burnt, so I didn't eat it. The mashed potatoes came with gravy on top (which was not stated on the menu) and the baked Mac was uninspired. My mom's Mac is far superior because at least she uses different cheeses and adds salt and pepper. I can say, with nearly 100% certainty, that I will never go here again, on purpose. This place is definitely for tourists wanting any southern food experience.
Again, we apologize about this experience and appreciate your voice in sharing your less than favorable time here and on Yelp. When we connect, we hope to have a chance in the future to show you the true Virginia's on King experience you deserved. - Holy City Hospitality
The food is fabulous. Fried chicken is some of the best you will ever have. Country fried steak leaves you wanting more. Squash casserole and creamed corn were outstanding. The hint of sherry in the corn adds a special subtle flavor.
Thank you so much for your kind review. We are pleased that you love the fried chicken and our lowcountry sides as well. We hope you will join us again soon. - Holy City Hospitality
I have been here many times, but this Sunday the food was not good. Very disappointed.
I expected more flavor from a southern comfort food place. But it was good. I had the stew, would probably have something different next time.
Food and service was fair. The bathrooms were nasty. They smelled and looked like no one had checked on them since the day before.
Unfortunately we will not return.
Great food and service. The corn bread is to die for!!
This was our first meal in Charleston, and it set the bar high! We felt that our food was authentic low-country cuisine, and it was served in a very small, homey atmosphere. There was a very large party in the dining room that took up most of the floor space and was noisy (not their fault--high ceilings and hard floors) and that marred our experience somewhat. But basically, we highly recommend this restaurant.
Too much breading on fried items. Not Charleston style.
Floor is sticky...not a good first impression. Tuesday fried chicken night so place was very full...because the chicken is very good. But service very spotty. Food came out way before wine....not the way it should be to relax with a glass before food is served. Have been here before so maybe our server just had an 'off' night. Would like to recommend but hesitate to do so.
Waiter forgot our cornbread and our dessert, but the fried chicken was very good.
We were on our anniversary weekend in Charleston booked a breakfast reservation. The service was very slow I sent back my eggs once and still didn't get the my country fried steak was overcooked and hard and they did not even offer to take it off the bill. I was very disappointed was definitely not worth the money.
The atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. I usually do not leave comments but I couldn’t resist. The smoke chops and mash potatoes were a great combination and my wife had those huge delicious crabcakes. We will return when we visit Charleston Again
We were warmly greeted when we arrived, and the hostess thankfully seated us away from a large group. Our server was very down-to-earth and made good recommendations. My wife had the fried chicken with collards and mac & cheese. She says the Mac & cheese is among the best she's had! I had the fish & grits. Both the catfish & the grits had great flavor, but personally, I should have stuck with the shrimp and grits. Will get that next time! Really liked the rustic decor. Overall, a great restaurant!
Food was excellent, very tasty. Service was attentive and personal (Thankyou Karen!). Cozy table near the back was quiet yet felt part of the laid-back scene
Great food and wonderful service
great food will go back great service lovely evening
Very disappointed from previous visits. Had out of town guest and none of dinners were up to par.
The entrees are authentic "down-home" fares. We had the Chicken Fried Steak with sides and the Chicken and Dumplings. Delicious!
Wonderful experience. Had breakfast with a friend, both of us were first timers. The food was great!! Heard they were known for their fried chicken, so I had the fried chicken biscuit. It was cooked perfectly. Our waiter Jake was very sweet, and informative in regards to the restaurant’s history, and all the staff were very friendly, and helpful!!
Unfortunately, my least liked dinner experience in all of my Charleston dinners. Food was ok, service not so good. Asked for Sauv Blanc, received Pinot Grigio. Couldn't get our server back to give us more water. Overall, it was just "eh".
Food quality was not great but service was great
Excited to be able to get a seat at the bar without a wait but ultimately Virginia’s on King seem to be very average
the bartenders were all overworked as are the servers and the hostess
the food tasted amazing but overall the experience was less than spectacular
and as a regular diner out, ultimately I was disappointed in the lack of spectacularNess of the experience
also the bathroom was disgustingly dirty which seems to be completely inappropriate in Charleston at a world famous restaurant
Food was good - but food prep wasn’t working. 6 in our party. 4 people ordered the deviled eggs. 2 plates came, then 5 min later another one. Last deviled eggs came after everyone else had entrees. 2 people ordered she crab soup bowl. One came and the other person had to wait 10 min. With entrees, they came out all staggered. Last entree came when others were nearly finished with their entree.
We went to Virginia's on King for Sunday brunch. They take reservations which is always a plus for me. Our server was very helpful and attentive and the food was very good. Fantastic ambiance too. We'll be back.
Charming atmosphere. Service a model of southern hospitality. The food superb. Pimento cheese appetizer was delicious. I had been craving fried chicken since I'd arrived in Charleston and I'm glad I had it here. Succulent and super crispy! I'd love to come back and try another of the tempting entrees on the menu.
