Virgil's Real BBQ - New York City
I’ve been coming for 20 years and my loyalty was well rewarded.
Quick service and the food is amazing! It's a little loud but that's to be expected-it's all part of the experience!
Virgil's was a decent place to eat in Times Square. It wasn't the best food we had in New York but okay. The best part about it was that you could reserve tables ahead of time - I saw a lot of large groups there. The food was okay - I was expecting the brisket to be more tender. The only negative was that it was my daughter's birthday and I asked our server if they do anything special for birthdays there and he literally said "you can buy a piece of dessert off the menu." It felt a bit rude.
Overall experience was good. Our server was inattentive and rushed us. The waiter from an adjoining table assisted us on numerous occasions.
My son has eaten at this establishment previous ly with no issues.
My wife and I had 5:30 reservations for 2 on a Saturday night and were seated at 5:25 and the place was packed. Authentic BBQ and sides. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for good BBQ and are on a tight schedule.
This place was nothing but amazing! Our waitress went above and beyond to make sure I was able to eat certain dishes due to my dairy allergy. The food was delicious and prepared in a timely manner. I would absolutely go again!
Disappointing .... My boyfriend came in from Long Island to have dinner at a restaurant in Times Square for his birthday. I was hoping to give him a cool experience with southern cooking. It was very underwhelming. It was too hot, the drinks were so so and our waiter had the personality of a wet noodle. Food was just okay, would not go there again.
I’m from Nashville so I know BBQ. The food and service is always good here...
Overall, good food for the money and the service was excellent.
We came with a small group and got seating easily. The food came quick too. The drinks are creative as well. We loved our server, Juan Carlos.
We love virgils. Great price point for the area. Also great for large groups. I put more value on the food than drinks. go somewhere else for a cocktail, but come here for the food!
Great location to theater district and terrific food. The nachos and chocolate chess pie are definite musts!!
Had a reservation after a show. No wait, quick service, fantastic food. Would definitely go back.
Delicious BBQ and nice kids menu make this a great place for families. Get the fried pickles for an appetizer.
Food was good and they got you in and out fast for pre-show meal.
We were recommended to go to Virgil's from someone who knows NYC. WE were headed to see Chicago at the Ambassador and this was the perfect walking distance on a cold night.
I have a Gluten sensitivity and mentioned this on our reservation and they were extremely accommodating.
The food was delicious and the service was great!
We (family of 4) were excited to have dinner at Virgils BBQ prior to seeing School of Rock on Broadway. It had been about 10+ years since we had last been to Virgils and I had fond memories of that first visit. At this time, I could NOT recommend the restaurant. The food is just blah. A quick rundown: We started with the Hushpuppies which were the highlight of the meal - the maple butter was very good, and a small plate of smothered fries (a disappointment). I had the brisket which was sliced paper thin (a dead giveaway that it would be dry - and it was) with potato salad (not very good) and mashed potatoes (also a sub-par delivery). My wife had the pulled chicken which she didn't like (noting I tasted it and it was passable). The boys each had burgers (one liked, one didn't). But it's not so much the food as the place just didn't have the same charm as it once did. I would say skip it for something better.
Food was good. You get much food for a great price. We love the cheesecake!
The food was delicious! The location was perfect for dinner before a show.
Great BBQ place, open friendly layout, with delicious food and great bar. Attentive staff, and a great find amidst all of the more boring, chain restaurants that dominate Times Square. The chicken wings are oof the hook!
The only thing that upset me was the food portion for the $50 meal share. We ordered collard greens and Georgia pecan rice for the sides and there wasn’t enough for the two of us to share. The portion on the sides fed conservatively one and a half people! Otherwise good staff and service. Been a Virgil’s customer since 1999.
Food was wonderful. Portions are large. Overall an enjoyable experience.
The best BBQ ever!
Very friendly service & a pleasure to be there
food and service was amazing, food came in a timely matter , great place
Grateful that we were seated right away with our reservation. The chopped salad was fantastic, onion rings not so much and the cornbread was OK. Happy that we were right across the street from the theatre!
As always - VERY crowded. Even with a reservation, still had to wait 15 minutes for a table
The BBQ is fantastic, one of the best I've had in a restaurant. The mac&Cheese was awesome.
Wonderful birthday dinner for my son! Food was fantastic!
We enjoyed our dinner, the food was delicious, the staff kind & efficient & the atmosphere was perfect!
Our waiter was great! He gave us great suggestions and was very knowledgeable. Love the trash ribs and chicken wing appetizer.
We worried a bit at first that we might regret ordering seafood entrees at a restaurant specializing in BBQ, but the salmon was a special that evening. We needn't have worried - the salmon was perfect, moist & delicious, perfectly cooked. We finished every bite of the generous portions. Thanks, Virgil's.
We have been here before but this time we’re very impressed with how they handled a member of our party who was in a wheelchair. They were very accommodating and I also noticed they have good dietary alternatives on the menu (didn’t expect to see vegan options at a BBQ joint!).
Service was good, food portions are huge and of good quality.
We will be back.
Good but not great. Virgil’s was once exception but now is quite ordinary.
Great find near Times Square
Entertaining family from the Czech Republic. Excellent choice of entrees and drinks in a great atmosphere.
The restaurant was very busy, as to be expected this time of year. We had reservations, but still had to wait about 20 minutes. The food was great, the server was fantastic. The hostess was not very friendly nor apologetic about the wait. The ‘bouncer’ was insistent that we wait at the bar, however we had children with us. And while he was frustrated with us, nothing was said to the family waiting with children sitting in the floor. Once we were sat, the experience was good. We had brisket, chicken, shrimp....the sides were so good! Coleslaw and Mac n cheese would be my side recommendations.
We made a reservation for a pre-theater dinner on Sunday, 12/30 for a party of 5. We were promptly seated upstairs. The waiting staff were prompt and courteous. Noise level was low considering the number of diners. We ordered the bbq tacos, Memphis style ribs, a rib and brisket combo, Carolina pulled pork and a burger for our youngest. All of the food was delicious and hot. With it being the holidays in NY, I really expected some pressure to turn over the table but was surprised that there was none. We had a great meal and got to our theater on time. Definitely on my list to repeat.
The best food i eated on NY in 2 weeks, very good attendant Alex made awesome recommendations
The food was delicious. The meats are smoked on premises and the sauces are all prepared there too! If you love BBQ and smoked foods, this is the place to go! Our appetizers came out very quick and although our dinners were not, the staff was attentive. When the dinners came out, they were worth the wait! I would recommend and would definitely return. The service was outstanding from the moment we arrived until we left.
We have been going to Virgil’s at least once a year for a decade. This was our first poor experience. The waiter, whom we have had before and was usually excellent was very inattentive and we waited over 30 minutes for our bill upon asking for it.
The food, was for the first time tough and overpriced in relation to proportion. The price for the nachos is just criminal!
It is time to look for a new BBQ restaurant in NYC. So sad...
