Always a favorite and tonight was no exception.... was packed so make a reservation, but the food is worth the wait... smoked ribs and chicken were delicious and wings and hushpuppies as an app was perfect for our party of 5... service is smart in that when busy they all pitch in and make sure things keep moving but don’t make you feel rushed. Love me some Virgil’s when I’m near that part of town,
Virgil ‘s BBQ was a great experience! Chicken wings!!! Get the chicken wings!! Fast service a 5pm on a Friday night before our broadway show. My brisket was a little fattier than I like. The ribs were okay...not the best I have had. The desserts are so worth it...so save room! We will be going back....but we may may just get chickens wings and desserts!
This was a pre-theatre dinner with my granddaughter. She ordered the (enormous) plate of hush puppies. Then pulled pork, potato salad , baked beans and amazing corn bread. I ordered two sides: collard greens and cheese grits. We always make at least one Virgil's stop when in NYC!
We had a great time!
Service was good. Hushpuppies were the best. Ribs ok.
We have been to Virgil’s many times, it never disappoints. Great food.
One of few good BBQ places in Manhattan and located just off Times Square. Head upstairs if you want to avoid the distraction of video screens. Bring a healthy appetite for admittedly cholesterol challenging food.
Virgil's will never disappoint.
I'm sure its a good fit for some, but 2 of the four in our party could not eat their meals. They had an odor to them that smelled like burning plastic - we think it was the "smoked" seasoning, but it was so strong, that the grits, the veggies and all of the food smelled. The waiter was lovely, but we literally spent $150 on 4 meals and the only thing that was eaten was the fries (appetizer) and a salad (my son took the shrimp off because of the odor). My daughter nor I could eat any part of our meals. We had heard it was authentic but we've been all over the country and never experienced anything like this. On a good note, there are no veggies on the menu so when I asked, the waiter was able to serve some grilled veggies that they had but don't advertise. I appreciated that he went to the effort for me. Honestly, I feel badly because I'm sure its just a matter of taste, but I have never, ever, had an experience like this.
Food? Fire. Service? Fire. Fire all around if I lived here I would come back.
A big disappointment. Went there for a special occasion with visiting friends. Food was warm at best. Not hot. Fries were room temperature and tasted like they were made a while ago. I likely will not return.
Great barbecue in Manhattan. Great atmosphere with s real barbecue feel. The food was prepared wonderfully. The homemade chips were great.
We had a great time. The food was great- BBQ in NUC! What could be better?
The food was great, except the fries came cold. A new order was brought immediately that was perfect. Service was attentive.
I cannot say enough good things about Virgil's. I have dined here at least ten times and the food and service has always been consistent. The food is just plain delicious and the drinks are full of flavor and alcohol! ;-) The last 3 times I was in NYC it was just for Virgil's BBQ and I live in Philadelphia! hands down it is the best BBQ that I have ever had and absolutely worth the drive. I'm already planning my next visit. Enjoy!
Visiting NY for the First Time
Consigliato ! Cibo buono in linea con la tradizione americana del BBQ. Prezzi medi, non proprio economico ma calcolando che si trova a time square ci può stare !
Food wasn't great, but we had great servers. Good menu options. Not the best barbecue but decent for Manhattan.
The food and service was very good. Upstairs was quiet, so we could have a nice conversation without loud music getting in the way.
Never disappointed when I eat at Virgil’s. Food is well prepared and delicious. Service is good and staff friendly. Hope they put the new chocolate layer cake on the permanent menu. It was sinfully good!!!
Virgil's will never let you down
Brilliant food, American BBQ at its finest!! We visited on a Friday evening at 8pm & the restaurant was buzzing!! We all left full & happy.
The meal for two could be for three! Great bbq- huge portions.
Food was just ok. Appetizers were good. My friend’s burger was raw and my BBQ chicken sandwich was dry and lacking flavor. If I went back again it was be just for apps
... AMERICAN BBQ ... GOOD...
Waiter filled our drinks with water before our beverage was finished
Endless drinks would of been great
Food was fantastic, service was terrific (our meals came much quicker than we expected!), and we had plenty of time to make our show. Thank you!
Virgils is our fav place to eat in Manhattan and would never go anywhere else if it werent for others wanting to try everytime x
The food is BBQ and it is a LOT of food. For a family of four, with the only appetizer we got, it cost $100.
I visited this restaurant after viewing some of the reviews and looked forward to the experience. However, I was not impressed. Our wait staff was not forthcoming about our menu options or daily specials. It was our first visit there and that information might have played a positive role in our meal selection. We did hear the wait staff for another table sharing that information. The food was fair, nothing impressive. Would I visit this restaurant again? Probably not!
Wonderful place to eat and be at. Friend and I were there for 2 hours and didn’t have anything to complain about . Wonderful service
Southwest burger was delicious. Texas sliced Brisket sandwich had too much fat on it. Good service otherwise
This is my favorite restaurant in NYC. Always try to make it in before or after a show. Great food, great service, great location. Can't wait to come back.
For us Europeans the portions were to much. Food was very good though. Value for money. We had a great time.
On a Saturday night in Times Square, you have to cross your fingers on getting a good meal. Virgil’s was “ok” at best. Super busy, very noisy and chaotic, it was what you would expect for a chain restaurant in Times Square. Mediocre food, barely passable service. We went because we could make a reservation through this app and they had a kids menu. So, if a mediocre experience is acceptable, it can work but I would try to find something better. I’d go to Dinosaur BBQ instead.
Had a 6:15 pm Saturday reservation before going to a Broadway show. Arrived on time but still had to wait 20 minutes before being seated. The place was packed and quite loud. The four of us had had big lunches, so we ordered less than on previous visits - two had entree salads, one a brisket sandwich, and one a bowl of chili. Portions were generous and all were quite good. Once seated, service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. We got out in plenty of time for our 8:00 pm show.
Great buzzy atmosphere but food (baby back ribs) was dry and uninspiring and service was rather formulaic and impersonal. Portions were generous and price reasonable for the location. We won’t rush back.
Amazing food! Quite noisy so not the place for a quiet meal but great atmosphere and music, couldn’t fault the food
The food was good but we made a seating request and it was completely ignored. We sat in a very uncomfortable seat and a wobbly table.
Good substantial meal, with great bbq flavor but appreciated that sauces not too sweet. Restaurant super busy, noise levels high, but had a great feel. Got table easily with booking and server was attentive.
