We dined here for our 30th anniversary, and everyone wished us happy anniversary and was very attentive. It is a calm and quiet place for a nice meal. We enjoyed the meat and cheese tray, and our entrees were good too. I had flounder, my wife had shrimp and grits. We will definitely come back again.
Vintage Tavern is by far our go to choice of date night locations. The friendly staff and chef's menus is unmatched! Very personable wait staff and manager. We enjoy the cuisine as much as we enjoy the experiences!
The waiter was great but the food was plain, under seasoned and overpriced for what it was. I don’t mind paying $200 for three people to eat when the food is good. I ordered the Sous Vide Duck. It had no flavor whatsoever. The skin also wasn’t left on the duck, which is the point in ordering this meal. Some of the skin was mixed in the lemon risotto but the risotto was mushy and underdone in the center. My husband ordered the Elk. It smelled like seafood and tasted like fish. Elk should never taste like fish. My mom ordered the shrimp and grits and it also was very bland. Nothing special about the dessert either. The creme brûlée was small, and made earlier in the day. The sugar wasn’t even heated to order, so it just tasted like a custard. Only giving 2 stars for the waiter and ambiance.
Always enjoy this place. Great atmosphere, drinks, wine, and menu selections. Service was, as always, personal and professional. We were celebrating our anniversary; so we really enjoyed the personalized menus. It is so nice to be able to sit and talk in a quiet, pleasant atmosphere.
The only downside this time was the shrimp and grits option. We had this before there and loved it. This time it was very different with lots of vegetables. This was the first time for this combination. Recommendation: Return to the original version you served. This one item won't in any way deter us from returning - just stating a preference.
It was the tail end of Restaurant Week of Suffolk. We couldn’t get a better deal for a 3-course meal for $40. Wonderful dining experience! Love Vintage Tavern!!
Really enjoyed our visit during Restaurant Week. Will certainly return. Great food and exceptional service!
The restaurant & grounds are very nice! The service was as good as it gets. We had a Very professional and knowledgeable server. The appetizers - fried oysters and tuna tartar- were good, but unfortunately it went downhill from there :(. And let me say I am not picky But this was the worst meal I’ve had in a while. I ordered the lamb shank. It was luke warm, and not especially tasty. It was very fatty. The dish came with black eyed peas and collards. Again it was all barely warm. Black eyed peas were uninspired and seemed like they could be cooked longer. Collard greens were pretty good and had much promise, but again not hot. All in all the lamb shank was not a good choice. I brought 90% of it home & fed it to my dogs over several days. My date ordered the beef tenderloin. It was again uninspired and her food was not hot. It was almost as if the food was prepared much earlier & then not heated enough when we ordered. The beef tenderloin was essentially tasteless. Very plain! Her dish came with mashed potatoes and spinach. They were both pretty good but I all could have been warmer. And the sides had such small portions! Frustrating because The only chance at redemption would be to take leftovers home and warm them up, but the best things were the collard greens and the spinach and there wasn’t much there. So.... Next came desert. I got a variation of cheese cake. Plain and simple the worst cheesecake I have ever had. And what’s crazy is I never had a cheesecake I didn’t like till this! So sad! It did not taste like cheesecake. It was essentially a tasteless slice of a light and fluffy whipped concoction that was missing sweetness and flavor. Not sure how you can make cheesecake taste like something that doesn’t resemble any kind of desert, but they did. My date ordered a chocolate pate which, compared to everything else was not bad, but something was still missing in The chocolate. All Food was a 4/10.
The compassion towards our inability to consume certain foods was refreshing, the food was phenomenal, and the service was impeccable (we were served by Amanda). We are always exstatically impressed with our food when visiting.
Outstanding as always.
Food was great. Service was excellent. Restaurant week special had very good choices. Hard to choose. Great seating with the corner table, but dining area was a little dark. Superb wine selection for the aficionado.
Lovely pleasant dinner.
Went to Vintage Tavern for restaurant week with my partner, my father, and his girlfriend. We had wonderful appetizers I recommend the Tenderloin Tartar for anyone that has not had it, it is delicious. Sherri was our server and was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Still a great spot in Hampton Roads for quality cooking. Price has gone up a bit and service has gone down; still quite friendly, but execution amount the younger staff just isn’t as on point as I’d expect for the price.
We first went to the Vintage Tavern a few times in 2007 or ‘08 and then moved away from the area for several years. We always enjoyed the place back then and I am very happy to see that nothing has changed! Took the wife for a dinner without the kids and we had another great dinner here. We had wine, nice suggestion by the waitress, then moved on to appetizers where we got the Southern Taste board as well as some pimento cheese. The ham, ham spread, deviled eggs, and the pimento cheese were all excellent. For main courses my wife had the Rockfish which was a special that night. It was excellent, great flavor and there wasn’t a bit left on the plate. I am a big steak fan, but wanted to try something a little different this time so I went with the Elk (warning, most expensive thing on the menu at $59) and it was one of the best pieces of meat I have had in a long time. I was warned that elk may have a bit of an “earthy” flavor when trying to decide and on all honesty I didn’t taste anything other than “amazing” when I cleaned my plate.
For dessert my wife had a scoop of guiness ice cream which was fantastic and I had the Pecan tart. The tart was probably my least favorite thing of the evening. The pecan filling and ice cream scoop with it were both excellent, but the crust was extremely hot and just felt like it was a little dry for what the dessert calls for. It is a tart though, so the crust matches the description.
Overall this place is fantastic and I am happy to see that it is still as good 10 years after our first visit!
Food was delicious, looking forward to our return. Great staff.
Elegant but relaxed atmosphere. A great place to impress. Very attentive wait staff.
First time in. The bottle of wine we ordered took FOREVER. No one apologized, never saw the manager, nothing. French fries were soggy, just awful. Decor was faded and dated. They should call this place the dingy tavern. One star.
Excellent meal from start to finish! Superb quality of food from appetizers to dessert!! Presentation professional and server attentive and extremely personable! Highly recommend for any occasion!!!
My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Vintage Tavern. I mentioned the occasion in my reservation and they really took the effort to make us feel special. Thank you for a wonderful evening. We'll definitely be back!
Our experience was wonderful. My husband and I chose Vintage for a date night dinner. Our server was excellent. She had great advice on wines with personal knowledge of several on the list. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
This was a great meal. I came alone. Decided not to eat at bar and took a table. Red carpet service. All service staff was nice and accommodating. I had 1 cocktail from signature menu. Fried oysters which were done perfectly and sous vide duck breast. Perfect for 1. Only negative, bread tasting was petite but definitely not a negative for me because the portion taste good and I dont like a lot of bread wasted.
I enjoyed the food. Our server was fantastic. Bartender made a great cocktail. My only negative was that it was slightly noisy. I definitely would go back and I would recommend Vintage Tavern.
Had dinner in the bar with 3 other people and were disappointed. The food was just ok. The only person who liked their food got the burger so I guess they got that going on. The bar tender was a pretty young lady but needed an attitude adjustment. We never saw a manager either even though we told the bartender that we didn’t enjoy dinner. She just shrugged us off. Maybe it was an off night I don’t know. Not a good experience.
The Vintage Tavern is one of our favorite restaurants and we visit often for special occasions The food is great, the ambience is wonderful and we never walk away disappointed!
Vintage Tavern was such an awesome experience. We visited the restaurant as a belated Valentine's dinner celebrations. We started the night off with drinks at the bar. Then we had awesome appetizer. For dinner, i had rockfish with rice and warm relish. My husband had lamb shanks with greens and beans. The food was so delicious! Definitely 5 stars!
Very romantic and very quaint!!
We will definitely be back again!
This was our second time in and we’re disappointed to see that the bar tender who was so rude to us was still, shockingly, employed there. Catie was yet again short with us and just looked miserable. She was so curt that it ruined the whole experience for us yet again. There will NOT be a third visit.
Update: the manager emailed me feb 26th wanting to talk to me about my dining experience. He offered no apology what so ever, just an excuse as to why he did not get back to me sooner. This place is unbelievable!!!
We went to Vintage Tavern for Valentine's Day. As always, the staff was friendly and courteous. Little things always make this a 4 instead of 5. Regardless of reservation, you will always wait 10-15 mins for your table. But we did receive a nice location and table. The servers were friendly but the arrival of food was slow. We asked for a status in order as a gentle sign of impatience. The entree's were excellent but the complimentary bread was so awful the server apologized for it. Still we will go back because the basic food, wine, and ambiance keeps drawing us back.
Unless you like seafood, their menu is very limited and pricey. Had the tenderloin. It was good, but for the price I expected better. The ambiance was excellent. Service was adequate, but again, for the price I expected better.
We had not been to Vintage Tavern in a couple of years and we totally enjoyed our evening. Great service, atmosphere and delicious food.
We loved everything about this restaurant! The service and the food were flawless. The cocktails were perfect. The casually elegant decor is very inviting. We loved that the menu was personalized with anniversary wishes, and several of the staff wished us a happy anniversary. The chef came out to pour the sauce on my lamb shank, and then came by again later to ask if I had enjoyed it - it was superb! A perfect place for a special night out.
This place was as good or better then Ruth Chris. The music. The setting. The atmosphere, it was all wonderful. The food was AMAZING. I am definitely going again. This place is awesome
highly recommend. Service and food were wonderful
Sherri was amazing, the food was outstanding. Thank you!
We had a wonderful experience at the Vintage Tavern - service was outstanding - restaurant is beautiful with fireplace and open kitchen. It was very warm and inviting- not stuffy - not noisy. Food was fantastic , we had the Taste of Southern Goodness for an appetizer- very nice selection of entrees - everything we had tasted wonderful. My new favorite place to eat!
Been here many times! Always great!
I have never been disappointed with anything at Vintage Tavern! I love their menus. They always have some seasonal offerings that are terrific. I always like to impress my clients by entertaining there. The service is always top notch too! You can't go wrong with this excellent restaurant!
Very tasteless! Bartender looked up recipe for a Rusty Nail which is a classic cocktail and served a martini without garnish. Food was pricey for poor quality and preparation. ie, Fatty tenderloin for $40. Way too much “hype” over this place. Those who give it a 5 star rating must not be exposed to true 5 star quality restaurants.
And the restaurant never contacted us about the review!!!! That says a lot!!!!!
Samantha was terrific!!!!!
