Never disappointed. Always exceptional service, delicious food and nice ambiance. Look forward to our next visit when they reopen in October after renovations.
Excellent food and service. Temporarily closed now for remodeling. Look forward to going back after reopening next month.
Another excellent dining experience. Food was tremendous and our waitress was simply the best! Truly a gem of a restaurant in Isle of Wight County.
Spectacular as always. Superb food, lovely service, beautiful location. It’s a special place. Went there for 58th anniversary and were treated like the special event it was
Our food was cooked to perfection. This included soup, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. The service was attentive without being overbearing. We had a good time and an excellent meal. It is a place we enjoy going to for special occasions.
Dr. J was our server. Very knowledgeable with the menu and courteous. Forgot to let them know in advance it was our anniversary however, Dr. J made a special champagne tray with grapes for us.
Food was excellent, I had the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. Melt in your mouth butter knife steak.
My wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The service and staff were outstanding. The food was amazing as well. Finished with a complementary champagne toast. Thanks you so much for a special evening.
Service was amazing, even provide a special menu for the occasion, Parents 59Th wedding anniversary.
Food was wonderful. One of my favorite restaurants for special occasions.
Service was very good. Wine list large but outdated, “according to the server” my wife and I were looking for mascato. They had none. Price a little high but maybe after they refurbish the business they will have more items available to include their wine list.
The staff was very attentive and had a nice personalized menu for my birthday and much appreciated
The food was superb and Laura's service was above and beyond.
The staff and service was great for our anniversary
This is the fifth year in a row we have celebrated at Vintage Tavern and it never disappoints! Wonderful food, wonderful service, a wonderful evening.
My wife and I celebrated our second wedding anniversary at the Vintage Tavern after having such an amazing experience from our first year anniversary visit. We personally requested Dr. J as our waiter again for this evening. We both still enjoyed the environment, food, and wine also received complimentary champagne for our celebration. Excellent service. Great staff. Very attentive. Very flavorful food. We still recommend the Brian's Favorite Ice Cream for dessert. Can't wait to go back again and we plan on having our third anniversary here again.
Amazing as always. Comfortable, friendly service and superior food. Bar night - wonderful juicy burger with pimento cheese, and beer steamed mussels so tasty that we ordered a second round!
The ambiance, food, and service were incredible although we had to wait 30 minutes for our reserved table. We enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar during the wait time. Overall, it was a wonderful evening!
Could not have chosen a more perfect place for our anniversary dinner. Our server, Laura, was prompt, efficient and friendly, and we were presented with a customized menu commemorating our anniversary. Such a nice touch. The food was perfectly prepared, and very tasty, from the bison ribeye, beef tenderloin, crab cake, and appetizers that included the biggest, best tasting mussels my husband had ever had. We had a wonderful evening in this wonderful spot, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special evening out.
Flounder was bland and oddly paired with spoonbread - which it sat on top of and reduced it to mush; rice, lentils and/or vegetables would have been a much better choice. Bread provided was cracker size- is it too much to ask for a decent portion? Nice setting, and it would have been prettier out back on the patio had it not been raining.
Birthday / Great service !! Also had the menu personalized with Happy Birthday Theresa ( wife’s name). Everything was done to make the night special
We had a wonderful time. Food and service were outstanding as always. We had someone in our party with several special dietary concerns that were well-accommodated. Everyone raved about their food. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. Save room for dessert.
Our second visit to Vintage Tavern. Our first was also a special occasion, as, for us at least, it is too expensive for frequent meals. We were eager to return, as our first experience was excellent.
The atmosphere is rustic but charming, nicely decorated, with a decidedly upscale vibe. Based on our prior experience, we decided to share appetizer, entree, and dessert. The appetizer was a special of the day, and was superb. It was fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese and a blackberry sauce for $12.
For our entree we chose another special, rockfish, and as we had done on our prior visit, when the waiter suggest it, we added a crabcake. Both were excellent, but we were astonished at the tiny portions of rockfish. Had we not ordered the crabcake there would not have been enough to share. We were served a tiny(!) portion of rockfish, with sauce decoratively applied on the plate, but even that couldn't conceal how small the portion actually was. On our prior occasion a shared entree had been quite adequate, as we are not big eaters. What's more, with the charge for sharing a meal ($5) and the charge for the single crabcake ($14) combined, we could have ordered a second entree and paid less!
The server was decidedly colder after learning we planned to share a meal. That is always unfortunate.
For us, at least, the good food did not justify the high prices.
The food was not as good as in the past—more filler in the crab cakes, etc. still a lovely setting with great service.
We celebrated a birthday and everything was great. Thanks.
Unfortunately - Our first 'experience' with Vintage Tavern was not what one would have expected - for a $170.00 dollar meal for two. First, we did have a very pleasant server - no faults there.... but service was painfully slow. It was over 30 minuted for the appetizer to arrive with well over one hour for dinner - there was one other couple there when we arrived, an at it's peak there were only 20 other people in the restaurant - not busy.... However, the most disappointing element was the cold (literally - at room temperature) yet slightly overcooked, $60.00 bison steak... the other portions (considering the premium prices being paid) were basically OK, but quite small.... No, we didn't complain or express any concerns at the time. It's is my contention that if you are going into a very highly rated restaurant, and are prepared to pay top-shelf, premium prices, the service and quality received should be the best possible - sadly, short of the friendly waitress - and a tasty meat and cheese appetizer, their is not much else positive to say.... As a footnote, when visiting a "high end" establishment, one might also expect a degree of 'decorum' to be able to enjoy the meal - this was not the case. A party of about 16 came in, celebrating a graduation, but were quite loud (yelling from one end of the long table to the other) and singing songs.... If we had gone to Golden Coral, we would expect the patrons to be a bit 'rowdy'... but to enjoy (what we had hoped to be a nice meal) in this setting was something less than desirable..... It was not my intention to write a negative review, however, this is an accurate depiction of our experience.
Been here many times. Just a great restaurant with great service. Our waitress Laura was outstanding!
My wife and I go to Vintage Tavern every year for our anniversary and a couple other times for a nice dinner. We had reservations for 645 and arrived early. There were two couples in the dining room at the time and a bridal party having drinks outside. We were asked to sit at the bar and wait. We then were taken to our table followed by another couple.
We placed our order and proceeded to wait nearly an hour for our dishes. We were seated prior to the bridal party yet were told “sorry for the delay but the kitchen is behind due to the large party.
I have a allergy to pork and asked to substitute mashed potatoes for the beans as they contained pork.
We were disappointed in the delay. When we received our bill for over $160 we saw a substitution charge. We found this as a little rude especially since it was a food allergy and the substitution did not require any special work. When paying more than $80 per person we would have expected better service. The management should not have booked more than the staff could attend to.
I would not have written this poor review if the email my wife sent to the restaurant manager had been responded to. The lack of response from a high end restaurant in our area shows me that they were not concerned about individual parties satisfaction when there is a large party and the revenue associated with it present.
My husband and I frequently dine here and really enjoy the atmosphere and back patio to relax, have cocktails, and dinner. If the weather is nice then the back patio is the place to hang out. The staff is always friendly and very accommodating. Good place to visit for any occasion.
Worst meal and service I could have ever had. Took 30 min + to get my drink each time, ribs were so tough couldn't cut them with a knife! Will never go back!!!!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary. Everything about the experience was amazing. The food was out standing (we had the tuna and elk). I would recommend this place to anyone.
We both loved the beet salad over fresh local greens with goat cheese. The soft shell crabs were amazing! My husband loved his ribeye. Creme brule for me and lemon chesse pie for him. It was a perfect meal with outstanding service.
I was impressed with the décor of the restaurant inside and also the landscaping outside. The food was excellent and the prices were reasonable. Our best experience was the waiter that served us Johnny Degroff. He was very knowledgeable and courteous though out the evening. It was my wife and I's 22nd anniversary and also my daughter's 20th birthday. Johnny, (Dr. J.) made it a very memorable night.
I visited the Tavern with my family to celebrate my retirement from work. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We appreciated all the special touches that went into making tonight special. The Tavern never misses an opportunity to impress. Thank you, Vintage Tavern!
Food was amazing and the staff was just as good. Very pleased.
Amazing! Greatest food my husband and I have had in Virginia! Just wish we would have found it sooner! Wish we were stationed here longer so we could spend every anniversary with the vintage tavern! Staff was amazing kind and had great suggestions. And they use local produce....come on where has this place been all my life.
I went to vintage Tavern to have dinner. The bartenders, were excellent (Shane and Catie). Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Like going here food is great and always good service
We dined here for our 30th anniversary, and everyone wished us happy anniversary and was very attentive. It is a calm and quiet place for a nice meal. We enjoyed the meat and cheese tray, and our entrees were good too. I had flounder, my wife had shrimp and grits. We will definitely come back again.
Vintage Tavern is by far our go to choice of date night locations. The friendly staff and chef's menus is unmatched! Very personable wait staff and manager. We enjoy the cuisine as much as we enjoy the experiences!
The waiter was great but the food was plain, under seasoned and overpriced for what it was. I don’t mind paying $200 for three people to eat when the food is good. I ordered the Sous Vide Duck. It had no flavor whatsoever. The skin also wasn’t left on the duck, which is the point in ordering this meal. Some of the skin was mixed in the lemon risotto but the risotto was mushy and underdone in the center. My husband ordered the Elk. It smelled like seafood and tasted like fish. Elk should never taste like fish. My mom ordered the shrimp and grits and it also was very bland. Nothing special about the dessert either. The creme brûlée was small, and made earlier in the day. The sugar wasn’t even heated to order, so it just tasted like a custard. Only giving 2 stars for the waiter and ambiance.
