Friends were in town and after our trip to Williamsburg was cancelled due to weather, we opted for a nice dinner out. The cooked oyster daily special was quite good and everyone enjoyed their meal.
Atmosphere and food were great. The cozy fireplace added a great touch to the cool evening. Elk chops were delicious. The wait staff was patient and cheerful.
We love the Vintage Tavern; we’re always made to feel so special, as if we’re the only people there (the best part is they make everyone feel that way!). It’s such outstanding experience!
Excellent restaurant. Excellent food. Excellent service. Unfortunately in their recent renovation they added a TV. Kind of diminishes the beautiful, peaceful atmosphere. Maybe they can add a wall between the dining area and the TV??
We did not the personalized attention we received and appreciated it warmly. Our host and servers were exceptional. There were 6 members of our party, all with differing tastes, and our server was well suited for all.
Return to a favorite restaurant. Fairly good service, except for cellar mistress who put our special Marsanne beyond our reach and did not return to check on progress. It was super although I had to pester the server to be vigilant about temperature. We were seated (no choice) with backs to the room (not my preference), but it was cozy. Great first and second courses, super grits and shrimp for me, mediocre desert (apple pie) served too soon. C’est la vie. This is the first time we’ve dined at Vintage Tavern on a weekend. Much prefer in the week. This is one of the best wine lists in the Mid Atlantic, as far as we know, and the focused menu is very good. In sum no better in the Hampton Roads area.
The use of kale as a substitute green in the Caesar salad was unacceptable. Just take it off the menu during the crisis.
Very nice escape from the Thanksgiving prep.
Wonderful food and service. Route 17 pig-plate is awesome.
Perfect evening. Food, service and ambience were outstanding.
Another great experience at the tavern. The new and expanded bar space is a welcome addition as well as a few new menu items. Always appreciate the craft cocktails and attentive service.
Wonderful as always!!! Great remodeling inside. Bar bigger area for those who go there. We always sit in the dining room. Only thing about the new look I don't like is that a TV screen in part of the new bar area is visible in the dining room. Kind of takes away from the ambiance.
We enjoyed our birthday dinner and were a party of 3. The service was excellent. We had a very attentive waiter who was both knowledgeable and affable. The food and wine prices are considerable so be prepared to spend accordingly. The quality of the food was quite good. Overall it was a pleasurable evening and a nice well lit fireplace.
We have been going to this restaurant for a number of years. The food and service is always great. They have expanded the bar area now and emphasized their strong suit.
My wife and I have celebrated our anniversary here for the last 3 years and it gets better every time. They did a makeover to expand the bar area which I think kind of diluted the ambiance of the dining room but even with that it still remains one of the best spots for a romantic evening by the fireplace. Our name printed on the menu was a nice touch too.
We celebrated our anniversary at Vintage Tavern and loved every minute of it, starting with the personalized menu, the wonderful service, the champagne toast, and the ambiance of the fireplace! The food was amazing!
This was the first visit of many that one of our guests did not enjoy their meal. After having had the most amazing dish of mussels ever on a previous visit, we found that there had been some menu changes since their recent renovations. The mussel dish now available did not compare, so was a great disappointment. To Vintage Tavern’s credit, they went out of their way to make things right- and succeeded! The staff - servers, bartenders, and chef were all wonderful. We’ll be back!
Johnny is the best server and makes the experience very nice
Great place for a birthday dinner!
Our dinner was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and attentive.
We arrived and were told be would be upstairs. As I am partially disabled, this was really not a viable option. So they made the lift ready so we could go up when we were told there would be a wait for first floor service. Our server was attentive and courteous. We were there for restaurant week and took advantage of their offerings for that. Drinks were average for the price point. The first course, a Caesar salad, was large, but not remarkable, there could have been some grated cheese offered at the table to top it. We were offered small pieces of fiocca and cornbread, they were okay. The second course, elk and beef tenderloin were well prepared, tender and flavorful. Our sides of twice baked potatoes were flavorful and potatoes au gratin were okay. There was no cheese taste in them at all. All items were hot and the portion sizes were good. Dessert was a disappointment. The flourless cake was passable, but the apple cobbler had no flavor. It was more like biscuit cobbler. Being on the second floor we thought we would be warm, but it was cold upstairs. The room there is nice and cozy with a fireplace, we never saw the first floor seating area. Even though we had to use the lift twice, the kitchen staff were more than pleasant about it, and our server was accommodating and friendly. It was unclear who the manager was, but it would have been nice if they had visited tables, especially given the fact that it was restaurant week. Overall it was a mostly pleasant experience, but the food could use some help in the flavor category and turn the heat on upstairs.
Food was not good at all and definitely not worth the price. However, drinks were ok. Might be a good place for happy hour. Dinner menu is very limited. Found it odd that they didn't have steak on the menu, but served ribs.
Not ready yet for prime time after the remodel.
Easy to tell that the business had just reopened after renovation. Not a fan of the new bar that takes up a good portion of the once cozier dr.
Food was excellent as usual- the grapes on the pimento cheese plate were much too large and loaded with seeds.
The service was very slow- hard to tell if the crew was too inexperienced, that dr service suffered because of an event on 2nd floor.
Fantastic service as always. Great food with awesome atmosphere. Never disappoints. We carried our daughter for her 20th birthday. I simply put that in the notes when making the reservation. When we arrived , our menus had been custom printed, wishing her a "Happy 20th Birthday". Little, unexpected thing that really made it special for her.
By far, one of our favorite places to go. We would prefer the new bar area/renovations to have isolated the bar from the dining room a bit more. We feel the new renovation really takes away from the sophisticated atmosphere we have grown to love about Vintage Tavern, specifically by hearing the people at the bar as well as being able to see and hear TV/sports while you are trying to have a romantic or elegant dinner out. We would prefer having an option to be seated outside of the sights of TVs and bar traffic...preferably upstairs or outside, however at this time it doesn't appear to be an option.
My wife and I really enjoyed our anniversary dinner there. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious. We will definitely be back with friends.
Took my wife for her birthday. Our server was excellent, informative, but not pushy. Food was delicious and fresh. We are definitely coming back!
Celebrated our 32nd anniversary with a most delicious dinner! The beef tenderloin melts in your mouth! Beyond excellent service!!
First visit since the reopening. Bar is much bigger and dining area is smaller now. Booth we always requested is gone replaced by a much smaller and cramped booth. Food is as good as ever but the redo on the dining room is a bit disappointing.
Never disappointed. Always exceptional service, delicious food and nice ambiance. Look forward to our next visit when they reopen in October after renovations.
Excellent food and service. Temporarily closed now for remodeling. Look forward to going back after reopening next month.
Another excellent dining experience. Food was tremendous and our waitress was simply the best! Truly a gem of a restaurant in Isle of Wight County.
Spectacular as always. Superb food, lovely service, beautiful location. It’s a special place. Went there for 58th anniversary and were treated like the special event it was
Our food was cooked to perfection. This included soup, appetizers, entrees, and dessert. The service was attentive without being overbearing. We had a good time and an excellent meal. It is a place we enjoy going to for special occasions.
Dr. J was our server. Very knowledgeable with the menu and courteous. Forgot to let them know in advance it was our anniversary however, Dr. J made a special champagne tray with grapes for us.
Food was excellent, I had the filet mignon and it was cooked perfectly. Melt in your mouth butter knife steak.
My wife and I were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. The service and staff were outstanding. The food was amazing as well. Finished with a complementary champagne toast. Thanks you so much for a special evening.
Service was amazing, even provide a special menu for the occasion, Parents 59Th wedding anniversary.
Food was wonderful. One of my favorite restaurants for special occasions.
Service was very good. Wine list large but outdated, “according to the server” my wife and I were looking for mascato. They had none. Price a little high but maybe after they refurbish the business they will have more items available to include their wine list.
The staff was very attentive and had a nice personalized menu for my birthday and much appreciated
