We enjoyed our overall Vinoteca experience! The service was amazing and the host was understanding of our party being late for the reservation.
The food, however, wasn't as good. I ordered the Jambalaya Grits and was at least expecting a few full size shrimp. I didn't know it would all be blended together - I even mentioned it to the server. The taste was also bland.
Absolutely amazing! Went for restaurant week, but will DEFINITELY return. Everything was totally delish, from the drinks to the dessert. Our server, can't remember his name, was a delight. Very knowledgeable about everything on the menu. Cute restaurant with very nice decor and great music.
Worst. Service. Ever.
We sat at a table where our server gave us attitude: threw menus at us; ignored our table for a while; came to ask for our orders (and I mean this literally) loudly chewing gum, never making eye contact/looking at the wall across us; then proceeded to blatantly avoid our calls to her from our table- in one instance, she locked eyes with my girlfriend as she stormed defiantly past us. Lol!
To add insult to injury, after she rushed through our orders by bringing us the check before we asked for it- we had been there for 50 minutes, exactly, at that point- a bus boy gently approached our table and asked us if we could move to the bar because the next reservation had arrived. I reiterate: 50 minutes. We were in utter disbelief. This was our first visit to Vinoteca, and I'm sad to say I won't be seeing their Benedict with duck confit again. There is bad service, then there's Vinoteca.
Wine selection was very good and service was great but that's where it ends. Overpriced bar food takes up most of the space on the menu. One outstanding dish is the shrimp and avocado salad; a tiny bit heavy on the dressing but flavors are excellent. All in all this place amounts to a local hangout with solid wine selection, inventive cocktails and one menu item for which to return but otherwise, Vinoteca has passed its prime.
Vinoteca has great food, but it is extremely loud in the main dining area during brunch. So loud that you can barely hear anyone you're seated with or the servers. If weather permits, front or back patio is the best option, if you want to engage in a conversation without having to yell. Bar area was also quieter than the main dining area. But the food is delicious!
Great menu and offerings, slow service for all part of the meal. Our waitress came two times within five minutes of us sitting down, and then rarely checked in after that. Our drinks took forever to get to us, which the host very kindly comped us. Then we waited and waited for our entrees, upon which we were comped another round of drinks, which we later we charged for on our menu. Overall a good brunch, but wouldn't rush to go back.
Very disappointed. I recommended my group of friends that brunches once a month to go to Vinoteca. I had had brunch there a few weeks ago and it was great. This past weekend however was completely different. The server maybe spoke 5 words to us total, we would have to wave her down anytime we needed something or she wouldn't come over, and it took 45 minutes to get the check. It ended up being a rather stressful meal, and we will not be back.
Was able to snag a 1130 brunch early Sunday morning. Great spot, pretty, easy street parking, friendly/fast wait staff and great food. It was the perfect patio brunch spot. Not the typical loud DC spot, which isnt a horrible thing but sometimes you want to enjoy a cocktail, brunch and friends in an atmosphere with normal sound decibels. Would strongly recommend RSVP early.

Needs more desserts or better recommendations of desserts in the area. Overall would def go back and have already recommended it to friends and family.
Great food and EXCELLENT service! The mimosas are top notch and are not just glasses of OJ with a splash of sparkling wine.
Pro tip: There is a great patio out back. While they don't serve bottomless brunch out there, when you're done with your food, ask your waiter/waitress for a refill of mimosa, pay, and then head out back to enjoy the weather! You'll probably end up staying out there for a few hours enjoying the scenery and the other fantastic drinks on their menu.
I had been to Vinoteca for brunch and happy hour in the past but never for dinner. We picked Vinoteca for a girl's night out (5 people total) and to celebrate a friend's accomplishment. We started dinner with a cheese and charcuterie tasting board which were both quite good.
For dinner we decided to share the family style orecchiette (the portion was huge), grilled romaine, chesapeake blue crab risotto (also a large portion), and a flank steak special. The food came out quickly, everything was tasty, and the portion sizes were sufficient; we even had leftovers to take home.
Overall the service was great and when the bill came and we split it evenly among us, it was not pricey at all given that we also ordered two bottles of wine with the meal.
When making the reservation I noted that we were getting together to share a friend's achievement. At the end of the meal, the restaurant provided us with 5 complimentary glasses of prosecco and a handwritten note for our friend telling her how proud we were of her. We were all really moved by the gesture and definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone celebrating a special occasion.
Service was superlative, our waiter was on top of everything, almost attentive to a fault - he even timed the arrival of new cocktails to arrive at the moment the previous one finished, even though we had made the order many minutes in advance. Truly skilled and attentive service.
Food was excellent. Not huge servings, but filling. Cheese plates are delicious but the prices are daylight robbery. The prosciutto was worth every penny.

The desert cake appeared uninspired but turned out to be good, with multiple flavors hidden away inside as you continued eating. It was still dense as a brick though.
A great place for a date, special occasion, or a place to try out some excellent drinks and have a light bite before going someplace else for something more substantial.
The service was shockingly bad. Servers were very polite, but it didn't seem there was a server assigned to our table. Any time we needed something we had to hunt down a server. One of the people in our party ordered an entree and asked if it had a specific thing in it that he was allergic to (garlic) and he was assured there would be no problem. Then another server came and told us that there WAS garlic in it--as the rest of the party was being served their food. The rest of us finished eating before my friend was even able to hunt down a server to change his order.
I will say that it didn't appear to be the fault of any server in particular that we weren't being taken care of. Also, the food was phenomenal. But if I'm going to spend that kind of money on dinner, I don't want to have so much difficulty getting service!
I'd not been to Vinoteca in a while and my recent brunch experience was simply not great. They were clearly understaffed and every table was trying to flag down servers. Due the their under staffing, the server actually suggested we forgo the bottomless mimosa option as she couldn't realistically keep our glasses full with that many tables. The food was also just o.k. Finally, I guess because the doors were open, there were jumbo flies inside.
I really love this place. Its my favorite place for dates. The food is always decadent and so in the wine. In the summer its perfect to start out back with a glass of wine then head inside for a cozy dinner. I did notice the duck was off the menu last time, which was a little sad. But they replaced it with an AMAZING lobster dish.
I went to Vinoteca with a friend who was in town visiting. We wanted to have a casual drink and be able to catch up and chat. It happened to be St. Patrick's day, so I was worried most bars would be crazy crowded on this Friday night, so I thought a wine bar seemed like a safe bet for quiet conversation. Vinoteca was perfect for the occasion. It was quiet and not very crowded at all. Our waitress was super sweet and helpful. When we ordered a bottle of CA Sauvignon Blanc she mentioned that the New Zealand Sauv B was her favorite, and it was cheaper, so we went with that one instead and it was great. The food was OK. The octopus salad was just ok, the grilled Caesar was way overdressed, but we got a charcuterie plate and ricotta cheese with grilled crusty bread that was awesome. Overall a really nice experience!
We ate at Vinoteca for DC's Restaurant Week, which meant a limited menu but more food for a cheaper price. Vinoteca also offered a wine pairing for each course, and that made everything so easy. Food was good, especially the house-made ricotta and the potato/portobello quiche. Loud and noisy, but it was a Saturday night at a young & lively restaurant in the U St Corridor, so that was to be expected!
