Very disappointed there was no Seafood Medley. I tried the mussels but they were very fishy and a disappointment.
I've been here several times now and have enjoyed every glass of wine and every meal I've ordered. The ambiance is great, servers are really knowledgeable and friendly and the food is delicious. I'll definitely keep coming back.
Loved it like always!!
We have been going to Vino Vino for years. We love the interior changes that have recently been made. We are not in love with the menu changes. We always looked forward to sharing many small plates, but there are fewer now, and more full sized entres. I prefer more small plates, or appetizers to enjoy with their delicious wines.
I had the burger last week which was good, not great. The frites were so salty that they were almost inedible. They used to have sliders that were small and delicious.
Would like to see the old menu revisited...
The service is always exceptional.
I've eaten here before with a large group and had a great time, so this very well could just have been an off night. But boy was it off. Long story short, the food is tasty and theoretically you can have a nice date here for a reasonable price, but our service was just bad/completely absent for the better part of an hour, and there was no accountability or remorse from a manager, the waitress, or anyone else.
When taking our order, the waitress asked if we were up to anything that night, and I said, "Actually, yeah we're going to a show down the street at 8." It was about 6:45 at this point. She said, "Ok, then I'll hold your order for about 15-20 minutes." I said, "Yeah, that sounds like a nice plan." Unfortunately, we didn't see her or anyone else again until 7:39, and I flagged her down and said, "Hey, can we get our food and the check; our show starts at 8." She said, "Oh I didn't realize that; I'm sorry." We got piping hot food at 7:52, which more or less tells me she forgot to put in the order at any point before we flagged her down. We scarfed down as much food as we could, put the rest in a box and ate what we could on the way to the show. They didn't give us plasticware, so my girlfriend ate risotto with her hands in the car. We then missed the opening number of the play--not the belated Valentine's date we were hoping for.
This is all pretty forgivable stuff, but nobody really owned it. Our waitress dropped off and ran the check, then some random person dropped off the food and a box, and we just left. It was just kind of a surreal deal where you plan on having this nice date, and then nobody cares at all about the quality of your experience. Pretty bitter taste in my mouth, and no pun intended--that's not a dad-joke compliment. Austin has plenty of other options.
The only issue we had was the hostess trying to seat us in the worst table in the restaurant. We had a 615p reservation and the back half of the restaurant was pretty much empty and had at least 5 two top tables available. She tried to put us at the two top right by the walkway to the kitchen, it was loud and very bright. There was a reservation card on our table, but not any of the other two toppers which were all empty... She said all tables were reserved, so I don't understand that one. Anyway, we moved to a much cozier table and it was lovely, the hostess (the one with pink hair) was not very friendly about the change, she was the only downer to the whole night.... I've just never been seated so poorly with Open Table and I'm not sure why she did that??? We usually have a great seat with our reservation.... Sean was our waiter and he was awesome! Despite the hostess, we will go back!
It took 12-15 minutes for our waitress to greet us. Another 20-25 minutes to get our wine. And finally almost an hour to get the food we ordered. I know all of these times because I was texting the person who recommended this place about everything. Our waitress, while nice, seemed more occupied with the the other tables. By the time she brought the thing to keep our bottle cold over to our table, we had already finished the bottle. Then our second bottle for some reason stayed at the end of the bar the whole time making us have to wait for a staff member to top us off.
My burger had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp as the fries were hot but tasted old. The bun was so wet I thought my burger had been sitting in a puddle. Literally could not eat half of it as it was so soggy my fingers went through the bun.
My girlfriends risotto was way over cooked and her mother’s was way under done.
This was a dinner for me to get to know my girlfriends mother better. The whole experience was no where close to worth the amount of money. How does this place stay open?
Service was great but one of the servers smelt of cigarettes which I find unprofessional. The guidance through the wine list was very good and the bottle we chose was wonderful. The steak and short rib were delicious. The seafood stew was okay- the quality of the actual seafood wasn't up to par with other restaurants. The mushroom risotto was bland and cool by temperature, not an acceptable dish. Overall it was a great evening with family though.
We had a great time! Attentive and knowledgeable staff, great selection of wines, simple menu of expertly prepared courses. We'd definitely recommend it for a date night.
Great look and feel as you walk in, wonderful wine racks full of unique and intriguing wines. Great sommelier that can help walk you through the complex list. Special wine occasion on this night made it even better! Recommended for a great dinner and wonderful wines.
Improved interior. Noise reduced. 90% of the time over the years has been great. Glad they have added variety go food options.
This place is one of my favorites in ATX! So many reasons to fall in love, they have an amazing wine list, great menu & lovely ambiance! They also have an amazing happy hour, especially their Mondays which is an all Day Happy hour! I always come back for their Goat Cheese and the Mussels! However, today when we came back, they changed their menu! They took out the goat cheese and the mussels recipe changed too! It kinda made me sad because the goat cheese is truly a favorite! The mussels now tastes like curry! I like their old recipe for mussels! Hope they’ll have the goat cheese again!
Really bummed after going to Vino Vino this past weekend. My husband and I used to go frequently in the restaurant’s first few years. Servers were passionate about the wines, and the food, while never Michelin-quality, was always thoughtfully and intentionally prepared. However, after a year or two of having not been to Vino Vino, my husband and I were both very disappointed in our experience this past weekend, and we won’t be returning. Did the owners change? The management? The chef? All of the above?
If you want white, rosé, or sparkling by the glass, you have five options. That’s it... five wines to cover all three of those categories. If you want red, you have another five to choose from. Vino Vino, despite its name, seems a tad more concerned with cocktails st this point. Food-wise, options are okay, but execution leaves something to be desired. I ordered a cheese plate for dinner. The cheeses themselves weren’t bad (Antonelli’s doesn’t offer a bad cheese, so it would be hard to screw that up). However, I was presented with three hunks of refrigerator-cold (should be closer to room temp) cheese on a white plate with a small dollop of something they called a chutney. Toss on some slices of *warm* slightly-toasted grocery store wheat bread, and you’ve got one of the lamest cheese plates in town. Hubby got the burger, which was extremely greasy but quite good. But what happened to those amazing shoestring fries they used to serve, and why were they replaced with Applebee’s-caliber potatoes?
Man, I’m bummed. I had been really looking forward to adding Vino Vino back into our rotation. That won’t be happening anytime soon!
Had to wait 30 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. Waitress was here and there, mostly there. Dinner was good but not great. Wish they had updated the menu on Open Table to manage our expectations of the ultra limited offerings. I’m sure if we were just looking for a wine bar instead of dinner we might have felt differently. Next time if we just want a glass of wine, I might return.
Not really an italian restaurant, more of a vine bar wilt snack menu
Truly exceptional prime rib on New Year's Eve. Wonderful service and atmosphere.
The food was good. Limited menu but very tasty. Wine choices excellent. Best part we could drink a nice cab and actually hear each other!
Vino Vino has always been a fave for me. Great service, wine selection, and food! Not to mention the awesome happy hour they have going from 5pm-6:30pm. The restaurant has a nice cozy feel, dimly lit and lots of simple but stylish decor. Love it!
Our first meal at Vino Vino since they remodeled. We stopped by on a Saturday evening. It was after the dinner hour, so it was fairly quiet. The ambiance is very nice. I really like the new look, and the large, decorative drapes dampened the noise between the bar and the back dining room. Very nice update, although I do miss the racks of wine on the wall in the back dining area! Our waiter helped us elect a very nice Pinot noir from south Australia. Very nice, well priced. I’m constantly amazed at the depth of wine knowledge in the “younger” wait staff at Vino Vino. When a restaurant spends the time, money and energy to educate their staff on the wine list to that level, impressive! We tried several items on the new menu ... chicken liver mouse was da bomb, the best I’ve had in Austin in quite sometime. The egg in muerre (I’m sure I mis-spelled that), could have used more eggs. With the soft boiled egg in the mix, the dish was delicious. Without the egg, not so much. At least 3 maybe 4 eggs should be used!. The fish dip with chips was good, and sweet potato chips sealed the deal on that. Very good! A very nice re-acquainting visit. Vino Vino is consistently good food, good prices, and great people!
Menu is very limited. The quail dish was very salty.
I am very sorry to say I won't be returning to Vino Vino. I miss the wine selection, and the way in which it was offered. The menu is a big change and a bigger disappointment. The food was uninspiring and poorly executed. The service can best be described as having an attitude of take it or leave it; obviously the waiters were not excited about the place either. Liked the new curtains and the tables, but the mirrors and lighting were not changes for the better. And blue is not a very cozy color. Overall, very mediocre dining experience, at best. So sorry.
My first visit but not my last. Wait staff and sommelier knowledgable and gracious which adds to the dining pleasure. Fantasic wine and food options.
One suggestion - the olive cucumbers sound really interesting and a good first but the presentation needs improving. Comes out piled in a bowl and looks like a bowl of green worms.
Fr fries, mussels fantastic. The schnezel chicken came out quite oily vs dry and the chicken slightly undercooked but crust overcooked. It would have been better not dripping in oil. However, the crust had great flavor.
Chocolate dessert - a nice way to end the evening. The recommended port was sweet and satisfying. No coffee available at this time.
Vino Vino is one of our regular favorite hang spots with friends. They previously had terrific appetizers and small plates and of course great wine. They recently had an entire redo of the restaurant and menu. We miss the old menu and are sad that one of our favorite restaurants feels gone. We much preferred the old menu.
They did a complete over haul of the restaurant and menu. Unfortunately we preferred the old menu and restaurant ambiance prior to renovations. Disappointing
Only problem was that the kitchen was deadly slow in getting food to table and they forget to serve one of the items ordered. And, when I mean slow I mean unacceptably slow. Had to ask three times about the food.
Had a greatime as usual. Great little spot for wine & o'dourves/dinner. Highly recommended.
Our server Alex was exceptional, Food was very good. Old west style long bar
Vino Vino is a nice idea, with a good selection of wines. We found the food uninspiring, and the noise level very high. The wait staff was pleasantly attentive.
Our waitress was fantastic! She was very helpful in explaining the happy hours and specials!
The food and the service was very good. We liked the look of the place, but it was much noisier than we prefer. This was pre-theater dinner, and we were able to get in and out in plenty of time, though we did have a reservation and arrived early.
Great food and drinks. The location is perfect for dining before a play at Hyde Park Theater. I've eaten at Vino Vino many times and have never been disappointed with the food, wine or cocktails.
Met some friends for a catch up and dinner. Food was excellent, although the menu isn't vast there are some great options for everyone. The wine list was also spectacular, everyone enjoyed what they had. Would absolutely go again, wish there were more places like this one in South Austin!
Favorite Austin restaurant. Usually go at least twice a month.. for years.
Lovely experience. Attentive informed staff. I love your cool dark atmosphere in the summer time.
Absolutely perfect wine and food. Service is outstanding as always. Such a unique experience.
Rustic décor with wood floors and open beam ceiling with one whole wall of wines available. Plenty of seating for 2, or 4, or 6. Food and service just outstanding and we will definitely return again. Happy hour is great also.
I have been going to Vino Vino for years and still love it. I would have liked a bit more happy hour noms variety and some more vegan/vegetarian options but per usual service was excellent!
Took my wife here for her birthday, wanted to get away from downtown. It was the perfect choice. Great ambiance, casual but cool. Sat at the bar for a glass of bubbly first. Joe was a fun bartender. Then grabbed our table. I had the scallops and my wife had the duck ravioli. They were both great. We also had the wedge salad, best wedge ever. Topped it off with a recommended Spanish Red. So delicious. The waiters kind of tag team so those names fail me. But all in all it was a fab experience. We'll be back!
As the name implies the wine selection is extensive. The food was delicious and the vegetarian fare was good for our varied party.
